OUT & ABOUT
Prancing Pony Brewery
The Pony started from humble beginnings,
tucked away in the Mt Barker industrial estate.
But since moving to its new location opposite
Duttons in Totness, the brewery has really hit its
straps.
The new building is big and open, decorated
with character laden timber furniture with the
stainless kettles proudly on display.
The Pony recently picked up the title of
Supreme Champion Beer for its India Red Ale at
the International Beer Challenge (IBC), an event
that attracts the best brewers from more than 30
countries around the world. Not a bad accolade!
The Dark Ale picked up a Silver Award. IBC
judges include writers, publicans, retailers,
importers and brewers.
Like the Lobethal Bierhaus, the beer range
is expansive. Our favourites include the
Sledgehammer, Black Ale and Sunshine Ale, but
each has their own moreish character.
The Pony offers an all-day menu with a range of
snacks and some themed food over winter like curries
and pizza. The burgers are delicious; chicken or beef
with rich chutney served with the lot. Presented with
chunky fries, they hit the spot every time.
Overall, the Pony gets our vote for the best beer
– some would even go as far to say world class!
