This <strong>January</strong> marks the 90th<br />

anniversary of the first live football<br />

match broadcast by the BBC<br />

World Service, featuring Arsenal's<br />

League One fixture against<br />

Sheffield United at Highbury.<br />

George Allison, who became<br />

Arsenal manager after the death<br />

of Herbert Chapman, provided<br />

the commentary on the game,<br />

lost his life trying to break the Water Speed Record on Coniston<br />

Water, Cumbria. In the course of his short life, he broke eight world<br />

to set both world land and water speed records in the same year.<br />

Jacquelane Airnes is Sales Director for the portfolio<br />

of eight Hilton Hotels, on the previous pages.<br />

Under franchise, managed by Westmont Hospitality<br />

Group, all eight hotels received a significant capital<br />

investment throughout 2016 and have now all<br />

rebranded to DoubleTree by Hilton.<br />

What does your typical week at work<br />

involve?<br />

At the moment, my weeks vary. I visit two or<br />

three of the hotels and spend time with the<br />

Sales Manager at the property, looking at our<br />

commercial focus and key activities to drive<br />

sales. It’s a very exciting time for all the hotels<br />

following a £16M refurbishment programme<br />

and the re-brand to DoubleTree by Hilton.<br />

I often visit clients alongside our Director of<br />

<strong>Corporate</strong> Sales, Sue Thompson and Director<br />

of Leisure Sales, Nici Pagels. It’s a key<br />

focus to keep our clients up-to-date with<br />

the developments at the hotels and discuss<br />

Are there any events you have held that<br />

stand out for you?<br />

DoubleTree Strathclyde recently welcomed<br />

the Tour of Britain cycling event. We had over<br />

70 cyclists (including bicycles!) stay with us<br />

during their tour.<br />

The feedback was fantastic as the hotel is<br />

perfect for sport as we have the largest<br />

LivingWell Leisure Club in Europe.<br />

What attracted you to the leisure industry?<br />

As part of my Marketing Management degree at Napier University I had to complete a six month<br />

work placement and I was lucky enough to secure a placement as a Marketing Assistant for<br />

Milton Hotels, which was a Scottish based family run hotel group.<br />

This was a fantastic introduction to the Hospitality and Leisure industry. I enjoyed the buzz of the<br />

hotels and loved the variety of segments that you can work on from a marketing perspective.<br />

At this point, I knew that this is what I wanted to do, and 16 years later I've not looked back.<br />

Why should an Event Organiser use your<br />

hotels for their next event?<br />

We have new, fresh, vibrant hotel meeting<br />

rooms with great AV facilities and attention to<br />

detail. Our meeting planners will help create<br />

a memorable event and support organisers<br />

throughout the process. We offer dynamic,<br />

funky break time options including Starbucks,<br />

cookies, popcorn, make your own pancakes<br />

along with a selection of healthy options.<br />

Our hotels are located in fantastic locations<br />

that are great meeting points. Coventry has a<br />

meeting capacity for up to 600 delegates and<br />

is an easy two hours from many key locations<br />

with major motorways including the M1, M6,<br />

M40 and very close to the NEC.<br />

What achievements are you most proud of?<br />

I am very proud of my part in the successful<br />

launch and re-brand of DoubleTree London<br />

Hyde Park and DoubleTree Ealing Hotels in<br />

2013. Following a £20 million refurbishment<br />

programme, both hotels launched into the<br />

London market as the ninth and tenth<br />

DoubleTree Hotels in London.<br />

This was a very fast paced and exciting role<br />

and led to my new position leading the sales<br />

team through this recent rebrand process<br />

from Hilton to DoubleTree.<br />

What are your professional goals and<br />

dreams?<br />

I am excited to be part of a new, dynamic<br />

sales team embarking on our first year as a<br />

portfolio of DoubleTree by Hilton Hotels. I have<br />

come in at the start of a very exciting project<br />

and I look forward to seeing all of our hard<br />

work come to fruition in <strong>2017</strong>.<br />

It’s also worth mentioning that DoubleTree<br />

Aberdeen Treetops has the largest hotel event<br />

space in the area. They recently held a Boyzlife<br />

event with over 800 local ladies in attendance.<br />

What do you love doing when not working?<br />

My job takes me to Scotland on a regular<br />

basis which is great as I get to spend time with<br />

my friends and family. I have lived in London<br />

for ten years so it is always good to go back to<br />

my Scottish home!<br />

What’s your favourite meal on the menu<br />

at your venue(s)?<br />

I absolutely love a starter at DoubleTree<br />

Aberdeen Treetops; smoked trout and<br />

beetroot cheesecake and pickled fennel.<br />

It’s delicious!<br />

I have a little girl who is three years old and<br />

I love spending my time with her.<br />

Who do you admire and why?<br />

I admire my Mum most. She worked as a<br />

midwife for over 30 years and brought thousands<br />

of babies into the world. She is a brilliant mum<br />

to my brother and me, and a fantastic granny<br />

to her three granddaughters. I aspire to have<br />

the strength, kindness and tenacity of my mum<br />

and hope I can set the same example for<br />

my daughter.<br />
