A WORD WITH THE COMPETITORS
It is the first time I am participating in Ataraxis.
For me, Ataraxis has been really refreshing. I am
a former Martinian and it's been like a walk
down the memory lane meeting all old friends.
The best event was Modern Shakespeare as I
took part in it. Some schools pulled off a really
hilarious performance which had the audience
in splits of laughter. One of the things which
sets this apart from the other inter school
events I have been to are the pink t-shirts of the
organizers, they are really cool!
-APARITA SAXENA, MODERN ACADEMY-
Being in the Shakespearan play, it turned out to
be the most fun filled activity at ataraxis for me
because I love to act and have a special interest
in Shakespeare. Some of many memories
include dressing up in the costume of a judge
which included our school principal, Mr.
McFarland's very own robe (ikr omg). I
remember how we wandered about the campus
searching for an isolated place to practice but
failed of course. Kudos to the 'Sister school; for
such a successful event. Try to better your
catering game a bit though.
-UTKARSH LAL , LA MARTINIERE COLLEGE-
Ataraxis has been an enriching experience for
me. I even got a chance to meet with my friends
from other schools- it was like a mini reunion.
The most fun filled activity was the dance
competition. the different schools came with
amazing dance steps on groovy songs. The
audience went crazy. It was as if the
performance were going on not only on the
stage but in the balcony also. there were boys
dancing in the entire auditorium. I've never
witnessed a more funny sight. As for my
competition, I was really nervous about my
performance. I hope I win. It is really difficult to
win at Mart being a Loretoeirite( winks).
-APARAJITA SHAH, LORETO CONVENT-
La Martiniere Girls' College organized
'Ataraxis' on 12th August, 2016 as a part of the
three days long event called "Entente”. It saw
the enthusiastic participation of more than 15
schools. Ataraxis- which translates to the
absence of mental stress or anxiety aims to
encourage participants to display their talents
outside the field of academics.
Numerous competitions like Fantasy
Land – fancy dress competition for the
preparatory students; Creative Play, Collage
Making contest for classes 7-8 and Salad
making competition for classes 11-12 were
organised.
The competitions organised for the
senior students included 'All the World's a
Stage' in which the teams had to enact any one
of Shakespeare's play with the setting of the
play in the 21st century and "Dance-a-Step' in
which the participating teams performed
western dances.
The competitions were judged by an
esteemed panel of judges. The winners of the
competitions are:
Once upon a time – Vinayak Tripathi, Adamya
Fantasy Land- Kaynat Khalio, Jeetendra Singh
Expressive Ingenuity (Face Painting) -
The risk of increased cardiovascular diseases has
become a very concerned topic in the recent years. Thus, an
awareness exhibition on the topic 'Listen To Your Heart' was
set up in the AV room with the help of Mrs. U. Pant, Mrs. F.
Rashid and the student representatives of Gandhi Corner.
More than 300 posters were prepared with the immense hard
work of the senior school students and Gandhi Corner
mentioned topic. The exhibition was seen by all the participants
of Entente and all students from Classes 9 to 12 of the College
ANNUAL MIDDLE SCHOOL CONCERT
7 TH and 8 TH SEPTEMBER, 2016
‘Uno! Dos! Tres!’
The Annual Middle
School Concert was held
on 7th and 8th September,
2016. The children presented
a variety of items which
began with a welcome
dance, ‘Vighnavinayakstuti’,
dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
It was followed by the
English play ‘Seven Bride for
Seven Brothers’ which was
an adaptation of the 1954
musical film by the same
name. The play revolves
round a backwoodsman,
Mrs. A Sinha
Adam Pontipee, who marries
a girl who works in the
village restaurant by the
name of Milly, without telling
her about his six rowdy, ill
mannered younger brothers.
The play showed how Milly
gradually changed their ways
and ultimately they were
able to win over the six girls
with whom they fell in love.
The Hindi play ‘Mantra’, was
adapted from the story of the
famous Hindi writer, Munshi
Premchand.
The other items included the
presentation of a fast paced ‘Mexican
Dance’, the rendition of two French songs
– ‘Mille après Mille’ and ‘Quand tu Seras
Grand’ as well as an English song ‘Pray’,
originally sung by Justin Bieber.
A group of Class Eight girls presented
a song, which was written as well as
musically composed by them called
‘Swadeshi’ which was declared as
the ‘Song of the Year’ in a national
competition. It was about the Swadeshi
Movement that affected the war for
Indian Independence and how the
principles of ‘Swadeshi’ need to be
followed again to improve the economic
condition of India.
The last item of the concert was
a dance performance by the students of
Classes Six to Eight. They presented the
different dance forms of India like Odissi,
Kathak, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi with
a finale dedicated to the doyens of the
Indian Dance forms. The evening ended
with a vote thanks by the Vice Principal,
Mrs. A. Dass, followed by the singing of
the School Song and the National Anthem.
Carol
Service
Report
-Mrs. S. Patrick
CAROLSERVICE
THE BLUE & GOLD | 2016-17
La Martiniere Girls’
College ushered in the Christmas
season with their annual
worship service on Saturday,
10th December, 2016. The
worship service was dedicated
to the loving memory of our
Lady Principal, Late Mrs. F.
Abraham. The Carol Service,
comprising hymns, Bible
readings, recitations and the
nativity, was first instituted by
Mrs. Abraham in the year 1999.
Over the years, Mrs. Abraham
ensured the continuation of this
sacred tradition to celebrate the
birth of Christ. Today, the Carol
Service is a regular feature and
a prominent annual event at La
Martiniere Girls’ College.
Among the notable
dignitaries who graced the
occasion were Chief Minister,
Mr. Akhilesh Yadav, and Member
of Parliament, Mrs. Dimple
Yadav.
The theme of the
Carol Service was “Christmas
Blessings” and the evening
began with the staff and the
choir singing “Born That We May
Have Life”. This was followed
by the recitation of Christmas
poems and readings from
the Gospel, interspersed with
Christmas songs and hymns
sung by the choir. Songs like
“Call His Name Jesus”, “Breath
Of Heaven”, “God Is With Us”
rendered by the senior choir
in their mellifluous voices
enthralled the audience, while
the junior choir, too, participated
with enthusiasm by singing
“He Is Born” and “Christmas
Is The Time To Love”. The
junior boarders enacted the
nativity, depicting the divine
prophecy and the humble
birth of Jesus, thus recreating
the magical charm of the holy
eve when Christ was born. The
congregation joined in with the
singing of “Hark! The Herald
Angels Sing” and “Mary’s Boy
Child”, while the staff choir
entered into the Christmas spirit
with their sonorous rendition of
“We Have A Saviour”.
The highlight of the evening,
however, was the combined
choirs of La Martiniere Girls’
College and La Martiniere
College presenting “Sing We
All Noel”, a beautiful medley of
Christmas songs, which kept
the audience spellbound. The
candles and lights along with
the nativity tableau on the
stage, provided an enchanting
backdrop to the choir as it sang
“Silent Night”.
The anthem “Christmas
Angels” was followed by an
acknowledgement given by
the Vice-Principal, Mrs. A. Dass
and the benediction being
pronounced by Reverend
S. Moses. The recessional hymn
“God Bless Us Everyone” brought
the festive evening to a close.
We are grateful to
Mrs. S. Jeyakumar and Mr. V.
Gupta for training the choir, and
Mrs. S. Rodricks and
Miss J. Camphor for training the
readers and reciters.
