Community Domestic Services Ken Daron Andrew Phil They’re brave (maybe mad)… now show your support Preparation is well underway for the four Run the Country blokes and their gruelling 134 mile ultra-marathon challenge across 4 days, beginning in Whitehaven on 25th August, ending in Sunderland on 28th. Training is more physically and mentally demanding as the run itself. They are distance training, building strength in their legs for the hills and stretching to reduce injury. Andrew ran over 280km in March, about the same distance as Milton Keynes to Liverpool. During April, Daron’s running took him up 1,313 metres of ascent, almost as high as Ben Nevis. All four of the team, including Ken and Phil, have suffered set backs with injury, but no-one has considered, or is considering, giving up. This is real endurance training – tough on the body, even harder on the mind. There is no personal gain from this. No big party at the end, no medal that you get at the end of a 10K. It is simply four very brave – or maybe mad – blokes who want to raise awareness and money for some really important charities that mean a lot to each of them for many different reasons.
