Hunt for killer after tavern brawl death A MAN was stabbed to death and his brother wounded in a brawl in a tavern in Wentzel Park, Alexandria in the early hours on Sunday. Police are investigating a charge of murder and another of attempted murder, police spokeswoman Captain Mali Govender said. She said an altercation had started over the closing time of the tavern. One of the brothers was stabbed and when the other tried to intervene and assist he was also stabbed. Ayanda Vesele, 21, died at the scene and Luyanda Vesele, 23, was transported to hospital. The suspect fled the scene and is being sought, Govender said. ý A worker on a game farm was accused of poaching last week, after allegedly killing and hiding a buck, but charges have been w i t h d r aw n . Observing from a high vantage point, the workers’ fo r e m a n allegedly saw the man hitting and kicking the buck to death. Dudley Waters of Panther Farm Security, who responded to the scene, confronted the worker, who allegedly initially denied his actions but then admitted it when the young ram was found. The worker was dismissed and charged with illegal hunting. But Waters said the SAPS Stock Theft Unit later notified him of the state prosecutor’s decision to withdraw charges. ý Sharp-eyed members of the Port Alfred highway patrol recovered a stolen vehicle in Nemato on Tu e s d ay. Govender said the SAPS members were patrolling Dantlome Street at about 6.30pm when they CRIMEBRIEFS spotted a white Toyota Corolla parked in an awkward spot. They called on the assistance of the Port Alfred K9 unit members in checking out the vehicle. No one was in the car. “It was established that the vehicle was stolen in Alexandria between Sunday and Monday morning. No arrests have been made,” Govender said. ý On Monday, members of Nemato SAPS, assisted by the Port Alfred K9 unit, arrested a woman in her late 30s suspected of drug dealing. Police seized over R500 worth of dagga and cash at a house in Mabandisa Street, Nemato. She was due to appear in the Port Alfred Magistrate’s Court this week.
