You can read, also, John 1:7-8 [this is talking
about John the Baptist]:
He came as a witness to testify concerning that
light, so that through him all men might believe.
He himself was not the light; he came only as a
witness to the light.
But I would like you to look at John 1:12:
Yet to all who received him, to those who
believed in his name, he gave the right to become
children of God....
Going back to Matthew 5:14, the church is to
reflect Whose light? Christ’s light. The church is
to represent Christ. The world needs to see Christ
in the church. Keep this in mind, because when
you come to the Laodicean message, you will
realize why the church has failed to be the light of
the world.
