Caring for Our Communities - VNA of Ohio Community Report 2016
6 | VISITING NURSE ASSOCIATION OF OHIO Our Community The State of VNA of Ohio In a year of changes and challenges in the healthcare landscape, Visiting Nurse Association of Ohio has not been immune. In our 114th year of service, we faced challenges that most home healthcare providers also faced, including adapting to lower reimbursements from insurers and reduced coverage from insurance companies. Addressing these challenges head on, we leaned on and expanded our partnerships in the community to reach our target priorities. In 2016, we: • Sponsored the film, Home Care, at the International Cleveland Film Festival, reaching a broad, new audience • Became MetroHealth’s preferred home healthcare provider • Held our 2nd Annual “Rockin’ for the Cause” fundraiser at the Music Box Supper Club, raising funds to support clinical education for staff In addition to our events and activities, we built new relationships with corporate donors including The Sherwin-Williams Company, Wells Fargo, ESPN Cleveland, Concentra, Galaxy Medical, Oswald Companies and Hard Rock Rocksino, and many others. We also partnered with like-minded organizations such as The Heart Association and The Alzheimer’s Association to reach new audiences. We were fortunate to receive a generous grant from The Sherwin-Williams Women’s Club, establishing a clinical education scholarship for single parents working at VNA. You can read more about it on the next page. Our dynamic achievements were fueled by our dedicated staff, board, donors and partners. These are not just our achievements to celebrate, they are yours. Thank you! • Presented our Annual Forum on the impact of integrated care • Guest starred on ESPN’s Munch on Sports program with host Mark “Munch” Bishop, promoting our work and 7th Annual Treasures of Cleveland • Celebrated our 7th annual Treasures of Cleveland fundraiser at the new Downtown Hilton to raise funds for our music therapy program
CARING COMMUNITIES 2016| 7 Ever Forward Women’s Club Establishes Scholarship for VNA Employees In 2016, we were honored to receive $30,000 from The Sherwin-Williams Women’s Club to fund the inaugural Belle Sherwin Scholarship. The scholarship, part of the group’s annual “Ever Forward” award, will support clinical education for single working parents at Visiting Nurse Association of Ohio who are interested in pursuing or furthering their clinical education. Funding will help these individuals reach the next level of certification, including State Tested Nurse Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse. Eligibility for the scholarship is anticipated to be available to applicants during the first quarter of 2017. The scholarship is named for Belle Sherwin, the daughter of Henry Sherwin, founder of The Sherwin- Williams Company. Belle was a founding member of the Visiting Nurse Association of Cleveland Board of Trustees from 1902 to 1924. In her many roles throughout Greater Cleveland’s health and human services, Belle is credited with establishing the philosophy and guiding principles for nursing services at the Visiting Nurse Association. Beyond her civic duties, Belle was a pioneer for women in education. Members of The Sherwin-Williams Women’s Club at our 7th Annual Treasures of Cleveland event at the Hilton Cleveland Downtown Hotel.
