Letterbox YOUR NEWS TO THE EDITOR - LETTERBOX@DEVONSHIREMAGAZINE.CO.UK Local adoption charity secures funding to offer adoption support Families for Children, local adoption agency and charitable trust, are delighted to announce they have secured a Practice and Improvement Grant from the DfE for Adoption Support. The grant, of just under half a million pounds, will enable the charity to provide vital new support services to meet the growing and diverse needs of adoptive families and children across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset and the Isles of Scilly. The Government funding, which is only available until March 2018, will be used to set up and facilitate the new services. However, Polpo Exeter to open in February An exciting new Venetian restaurant is set to open in Exeter as part of the Guildhall Dining Development. Russell Norman and business partner Richard Beatty will open POLPO Exeter at 18 Higher Market Guildhall, Queen Street in February 2017. POLPO is modelled on the scruffy wine bars of Venice and feels urban, rustic and stripped back. Guests enter through a heavy red velvet curtain to find a zinc topped bar and linen-draped lamps. The interiors feature a New photography service provided by Devonshire Devonshire magazine now provide professional photography services for businesses looking to upgrade their imagery for websites, printed and social media. Nigel says “photography is one of our specialist areas, we take and process so many images these days, it’s really second nature! reclaimed timber floor, rusted tin ceiling and a huge 3-metre skylight that floods the restaurant with light. POLPO’s trademark deep red leather banquettes line the walls alongside old chemistry lab tables, classic bentwood chairs and antique maps of Venice. Following on from the traditions of its sister restaurants, POLPO Exeter is a bacaro. This is a Venetian word to describe a humble restaurant serving simple food, and good, young northern Italian wines. the charity stresses that they need to continue to raise vital funds to the amount of £500,000 per year in order to meet this growth and continue its delivery beyond the funding period. Janet Smith, Adoption Support Manager says, “These are exciting times for the Agency. As a specialist adoption agency we have always prided ourselves in being able to offer our families the very best in support for as long as they might need it. The grant will allow us to extend these services and build on those we already provide to promote what we hope will be a Centre of Excellence in the South West for adoption support. Primarily we will be looking to develop a four stage service to include the development of multi-disciplinary therapeutic support, a comprehensive training programme for adopters, to establish an education service to help support adopted children in schools and the all-important immediate response service for adopters. Photo by Laurie Fletcher Of course, photography is much more these days than just about the camera and composition, RAW workflow is essential to get images that really work”.
