People Moves US President Donald Trump has nominated Neil Gorsuch to be an associate justice on the Supreme Court. Gorsuch is currently a judge on the US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and, if confirmed by the Senate, would return the court to a conservative majority. He will fill the seat left vacant following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in 2016. Intellectual property law firm Fernando & Partners has merged with Squire Patton Boggs. The move will strengthen Squire Patton Boggs’s offering in electrical devices, systems and software. Ronald Fernando has joined Squire Patton Boggs as partner. Senior associates William Higley and Jacob Smith and associate Prateek Bhatnagar have also joined from Fernando & Partners. Fernando is an experienced patent litigator, dealing with both preparation and prosecution. His practice also involves counselling on portfolio strategy, licensing, infringement and validity issues. Dinsmore & Shohl has added three partners and two of counsel to its team. Toni-Junell Herbert, Mark Shanks and Therese Finan join as partners in the firm’s Washington DC office, along with Fabian Koenigbauer as of counsel. Aubrey Haddach joins the firm as of counsel in San Diego. All five attorneys join from Venable and will strengthen Dinsmore’s IP department. Herbert’s practice focuses on IP auditing, due diligence, patent litigation, licensing and technology transfer. She has overseen preparation and prosecution of patents at the US Patent and Trademark Office. Shanks covers patent acquisition, enforcement and assists clients with the strategic development and monetisation of IP portfolios, including enforcing patents in both traditional and Hatch-Waxman contexts. Finan helps clients protect, patent and commercialise inventions, specifically in the life sciences industries. He also asserts clients IP rights and defends against infringement allegations. Haddach is experienced in all aspects of patent law and related business matters, particularly in the life sciences industries. Her technical knowledge covers pharmaceuticals, medical devices, agrochemicals, and more. Law firm Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox has added two new directors to its litigation group and appellate groups. John Christopher Rozendaal and Michael Joffre have joined as cochairs of the firm’s litigation group and appellate groups, respectively. The new directors will boost the firm’s overall capabilities in US district courts, at the International Trade Commission, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Patent and Trademark Office.
