Chelsea Sievewright MBCS

Chelsea Sievewright MBCS Infrastructure Security Specialist at Prudential Named Computer Science Undergraduate of the year 2015. Chelsea was Interconnect’s first student champion at The University of Abertay, where she was responsible for organising and leading a successful networking event for female STEM students. Over 40 women attended including academic staff and professionals from industry. Her role with the Interconnect network led to a summer placement with Sky Scanner. In 2015, Chelsea was named Computer Science Undergraduate of the Year. “I still can’t quite believe I won because I was up against some great competition.” In 2015, she delivered a talk at the Scottish Parliament about her time working with Interconnect and her experiences as a woman in technology. She was awarded distinction in the Principal’s Award for her extra curricular activity, improving key skills employers look for in graduates. In June 2015, after graduation, Chelsea embarked on her career with Prudential Assurance as an Infrastructure Security Specialist within the Vulnerability Management team and leading the penetration testing workstream. 22

Suzanne Birney Apprentice Doosan Babcock Ltd Scotland’s Apprentice of the Year 2014. Suzanne hadn’t been sure about staying on at school for sixth year when the opportunity to apply for an apprenticeship with Doosan Babcock arose. Following a rigorous selection process she was successful and began a CAD Technologist apprenticeship with Doosan Babcock in 2011. Suzanne has won and been nominated for an amazing array of local and UK-wide awards during the past couple of years. These include: Hammermen Award: Best Engineering Student at Glasgow Clyde College Glasgow Clyde College: Best Modern Apprentice on an Engineering Programme Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE): Apprentice of the year 2014 ECITB: Scottish Regional Apprentice of the Year. Suzanne is also the recipient of a prestigious Whitworth Scholarship, won Women of the Future: Young Star Award, and SDS Scotland’s overall Apprentice of the Year 2014. 23
