CONNECT. I SS U E 2 2 0 1 6 SISTERLY SUPPORT FOR STEEL CONTRACT TWO OF AV DAWSON’S SISTER COMPANIES ARE WORKING TOGETHER TO PROVIDE SEAMLESS SUPPORT ON A MAJOR CONTRACT WITHIN THE STEEL SUPPLY CHAIN. AV Dawson’s paint division has been brought in by the business’ steel processing team to provide specialist shot blasting services on a batch of steel that will ultimately be used by a global giant in the construction and mining sector. As part of an intensive inspection process on site, AV Dawson has shot blasted a sample batch of the steel to enable a deeper inspection to be completed by its client. This rigorous process ensures the end customer receives the highest quality product. The 800 tonne sample was transported to AV Dawson’s paint business, based at its freight handling facility in Middlesbrough. Tees Valley Coatings, which is part of the AV Dawson group, shot blasted the steel to clean off the top surface so its client’s inspectors could conduct a thorough inspection. Any minor rectifications were then completed by neighbouring AV Dawson business and steel processing specialist, Millserve, before being shipped overseas from AV Dawson’s quay. Barry Hunter, Millserve manager said: “At Millserve, we undertake a huge amount of work for the major steel manufacturers. This includes steel cutting, buffing and grinding for steel used in a wide range of applications; from the specialist steel sections for this contract, to steel beams used in the construction sector and specialist parts used for battle ships in the defence sector. “When we work with other AV Dawson teams across the site, like in this example where we have our paint and steel processing divisions but also our haulage, quayside and shipping teams, it’s a real team effort that delivers significant added value for our customer.” 06

Safety Integrity Family Resourceful NEW TRAILERS AV DAWSON DEMONSTRATES FURTHER SUPPORT TO CUSTOMERS THROUGH CONTINUED INVESTMENT IN ITS ROAD HAULAGE FLEET. After purchasing seven new Mercedes Actros trucks earlier this year, AV Dawson has invested in four new coil trailers to support production of Nissan’s new Infiniti. The new Mercedes Actros trucks and cabriolet trailers are liveried up in AV Dawson’s new branding to promote its seamless logistics by road, rail, land and sea. Paul Scott, Transport Manager said: “We have an ongoing programme to renew our vehicle fleet to ensure optimum performance and achieve maximum efficiency for our customers. We also have our own workshops on site to service our trailers and ensure they’re well maintained and operating reliably. It’s important that the vehicles look smart too as it’s all part of providing a professional service. “We are now undergoing a project to gradually update all of our 200-trailer fleet to our new branding. We’re operating for some major global brands, so it’s important we look the part. It makes our team feel proud too.” DID YOU KNOW: AV DAWSON IS A DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSPORT APPROVED FREIGHT SERVICE OPERATOR (AFSO) SO IT IS AUTHORISED TO CERTIFY AND SEAL BOXES FOR TRANSPORTATION VIA THE CHANNEL TUNNEL Keep up to date with our latest news on our...
