CONNECT. I SS U E 2 2 0 1 6 NEW £1.5M SITE OPEN NEW IRONMASTERS PARK OPEN FOR BUSINESS A brand new facility which opened on Riverside Park Industrial Estate in August is already fully occupied. AV Dawson has opened a new site adjacent to its existing facility on Riverside Park to provide additional space for tenants. The 6.7-acre plot, which AV Dawson purchased from Middlesbrough Council, is part of AV Dawson’s strategy to spread risk by increasing its property portfolio. The business has invested over £1.5m into the site, which will now be known as Ironmasters Park, to give a nod to the past and acknowledge Middlesbrough’s iron industry and its founding Victorian ironmasters. The site, which is also adjacent to Middlesbrough Council’s public greenland area, Teesaurus Park has attracted new tenants alongside some existing tenants that have relocated from AV Dawson’s North Sea Supply Base to free up space for other businesses that need direct access to the port and shipping facilities. AV Dawson’s estates manager, Mark Firth said: “There’s been a considerable investment to get the utilities and groundworks in place, but the project has gone very well and been delivered on time. We’ve got a good group of businesses on site now including Tees Valley Trailers, Jet Aire Drain Care, Network Scaffolding Contractors, D Richardson Transport, Maritime Transport and Mech-Tool Engineering.” Maritime Transport, which was one of the first businesses to move into the new facility, will be operating its new Teesport transport depot from the site and working closely with AV Dawson’s own container haulage team. Maritime Transport’s Paul Heyhoe said: “There wasn’t really a facility in the area that was suitable for our needs, but AV Dawson has just got on and built one. The team worked with us to understand our requirements, kept us updated throughout the project and just as importantly, opened the facility on time, which avoided any disruption to our business operations.” AV DAWSON ADDS FOUR MORE INDUSTRY TITLES TO ITS TROPHY CABINET AV Dawson has been recognised East Exporters’ Awards, recognising by industry peers with recent the business’ work with the region’s award wins in rail and export. export community, particularly its September marked an exceptional work in new waste-to-energy month with AV Dawson being export markets and its commitment awarded three rail industry to customers such as British Steel. awards. Safety Integrity Family Resourceful YOUTH FOCUS ON AUTOMOTIVE AV DAWSON HELPS TEESSIDE CHARITY LAUNCH AUTOMOTIVE CADETSHIP TO STRENGTHEN SKILLS ON TEESSIDE Teesside based charity, The High Tide Foundation, which connects industry and education to raise the aspirations of young people locally, has announced the launch of a brand new programme with the support of logistics expert AV Dawson. The Automotive Cadetship, believed to be the first of its kind in the country, has been developed in partnership with logistics expert AV Dawson and four other companies based in the region including SABIC, Nifco, Nissan and Evans Halshaw. These organisations are providing 13 and 14 year old school children with an insight into the world of automotive and the region’s thriving automotive sector; exploring the full supply chain; from manufacture and movement of plastic and steel, through to the art of sales in the car showroom. Head of marketing and business development at AV Dawson, Charlie Nettle said: “It’s really important that we all do everything we can to inform and inspire the next generation so that they are more aware of the opportunities here in our region. We have developed a world class automotive sector in the North East; it has become a key sector for the area and is attracting global interest. However, to sustain this, we must attract new talent.” The North East Automotive Alliance (NEAA), which was established to support the economic sustainable growth of the sector in the North East of England, and celebrated its first anniversary earlier this year, has been particularly interested to see the development of this programme. Paul Butler, CEO of NEAA said: “This initiative is a great example of the innovation and pioneering ideas coming from businesses operating in the automotive sector in the North East and is exactly what’s required to inspire the next generation to consider working in the sector. It also illustrates the added value businesses can achieve by all pulling together.” GOLDEN GIVEAWAYS: LADIES OF STEEL YOUTH CLUB A Redcar-based community group was the proud recipient of the ‘Golden Giveaway’ cheque that AV Dawson presented at a recent charity event. Gary Dawson presented a £500 cheque to Ladies of Steel Youth Club as part of the work AV Dawson does as a patron of Middlesbrough & Teesside Philanthropic. Ladies of Steel Youth Club is a voluntary community group that runs a weekly youth club in Dormanstown for local children aged between seven and 15. The club, which was established in January 2007, gives youngsters an opportunity to take part in a range of indoor and outdoor activities. The £500 donation will be used to fund a day trip and youth club equipment. Keep up to date with our latest news on our... W 09
