About The Forum Heidelberg The Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF) has designed a platform to advance research ideas and cultivate creativity. The annual Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF) takes place in Heidelberg, one of the most renowned sites for scientific research in Germany, which beckons scholars and visitors from all corners of the globe. Heidelberg University, Ruperto Carola, founded in 1386, is one of the oldest European universities and the oldest university in Germany. Heidelberg’s academic tradition not only spans centuries, but includes a vast and extensive network. Well over 39,000 students are attending one of the ten colleges, universities or vocational schools located in the city. The city and science are inseparably linked and are fundamental to Heidelberg’s popularity as a focal point for international academic exchange. Many prominent research institutes like European Molecular Biology Laboratory, the German Cancer Research Center and four Max Planck Institutes contribute to Heidelberg’s esteem. The region surrounding Heidelberg has also garnered recognition on the global market as home to software giants SAP SE and SAS. During the HLF, the young researchers have the opportunity to choose one out of several selected institutions and companies to visit. 40
