Wednesday, September 21 Laureate School Visits The younger generation being inspired by the laureates is a cornerstone of the Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), which is why the laureates are invited to visit local schools to give informal lectures to the students. In Heidelberg, Fred Brooks visited the Carl- Bosch-Schule and Gerd Faltings the Kurfürst- Friedrich-Gymnasium. Three laureates went to the neighboring city of Mannheim with Barbara Liskov going to the Liselotte-Gymnasium Mannheim, Michael Atiyah to the Ludwig-Frank-Gymnasium Mannheim and John Hopcroft to the Integrierte Gesamtschule Mannheim-Herzogenried. There were schools in the surrounding area that also received some esteemed visitors. For example the Hohenstaufen-Gymnasium in Eberbach was visited by Shigefumi Mori, the Hebel-Gymnasium in Schwetzingen by Ngô Bảo- Châu and the Carl-Friedrich-Gauß Gymnasium in Hockenheim by Endre Szemerédi. Barbara Liskov Advice, the importance of perseverance and the value of following one’s passions awaited the budding minds as they absorbed their lessons. For the laureates, the chance to offer guidance to students on the cusp of making important decisions about their paths is one they readily accept. Michael Atiyah John Hopcroft 78
