RETAIL DIVISION BY DEBORAH GOULTHORPE Retail Division is currently undertaking the full buying and merchandising for 24 members with 31 outlets. The team is headed by Deborah Goulthorpe and consists of a dedicated buyer, Andrew Wilkins, plus three Retail Co-ordinators, who are based in stores. The team are responsible for developing bespoke Cookshop departments which involves product and promotional planning, merchandising and training. Last year, the annual turnover of the division was over £8m, with like for like sales +6% and +14% on 2 years. The majority of the stores are department stores, with a small percentage of garden centres. Sales have been driven by small electricals, boxed cookware and trending products based around healthy eating and baking. Please refer to the best sellers listed below. The last few months has seen sales getting tougher as consumer confidence wanes, more focus has been put on trading each store harder with focused promotions. Value still remains key to our consumers, with sale periods in double digit growth. This year’s best sellers have been: Morphy Richard’s plastic stand mixer and hand blender. Judge Vista draining and Stellar7000 boxed cookware. Stellar 44 piece cutlery set. Judge slow cookers – 3.5L and 5L. AIS Soup bowls – assorted colours. 1.6 litre soup maker. G-Tech power sweeper/Vax Gator/Pifco hand held steamer. Denby tableware – Linen, Regency Green, Imperial Blue. AIS Symphony glassware. Dartington glassware – boxed set of 6. The Retail division have three main focuses this year: 1. Sourcing an increased level of design-led ranges to create theatre in store and a point of differentiation. 2. Improving the store execution. Initiating several remerchandising exercises to enhance the customer experience. 3. A new concept/initiative for garden centre cook shops. Garden centres have been a key growth area for the division, not only for the full buying service but also for the summer and winter sale packages. The division continues to attract new members and the packages are continuing to grow in strength. It is the divisions aim to encourage more members to utilise the different services offered. 118
