Health Insurance Coverage: Early Release of Estimates From the National Health Interview Survey, January–September 2016 2 In references to “part of the past year” and “more than a year,” a year is defined as the 12 months prior to interview. In 2016, answer categories for those who are currently uninsured concerning the length of non-coverage were modified. Therefore, 2016 estimates of “uninsured for at least part of the past year” and “uninsured for more than a year” may not be completely comparable to previous years. For more information on this change, see Technical Notes. NOTE: Data are based on household interviews of a sample of the civilian noninstitutionalized population. SOURCE: NCHS, National Health Interview Survey, 1997, 2005, and 2010–2016, Family Core component.
