FINAL POWER 100 BOOK 2.59 TUE_Layout 1 14/02/2017 13:54 Page 1 welcome from the chairman Pakistan faces several urgent challenges today and how these challenges are addressed will have profound implications on the everyday lives of the people of Pakistan and on the security and economic stability of the country. In recent years the once patriotic Pakistani Diaspora, although continuing to demonstrate a level of patriotism, hasbecome more cynical towards Pakistan. This coupled with the regularity of damaging news stories about Pakistan has caused great challenges for the country on a national and international level, and somewhere along the way, we have stopped reaching for the possible and resignedourselves to that which is most probable in relation to Pakistan’s future. However, there are still people who believe that this isn’t the way it was supposed to be, that thingsshould be different in Pakistan. People who believe that if we have a collective responsibility to look out for one another and if our bond of common mutuality can be reawakened, then at that point we will all start working together to usher in a new era of change for Pakistan. Indeed, there must also be a change in hearts and minds; in cultures and attitudes. Neither philanthropist, nor scientist; neither government nor industrialists, can solve Pakistan’s problems on their own – this must be an all for one and one for all effort, and I for one want to play apart in that, no matter how small, or insignificant my role may be. The original idea with Pakistan Power 100 was to identify some great people who had achieved great things and to connect these individuals together so that they could share knowledge, expertise and resource. The Pakistani Diaspora across the world is a source of great strength for Pakistan and if we all come together to collectively use our intellectual and financial capital, we can bring significant and positive change to the people of Pakistan. Pakistan Power 100 is not just about PR – its role is to promote Pakistan to the global community,to showcase our greatest influencers and to work towards changing the perception of Pakistan through these highest achievers. The world currently sees Pakistan being overwhelmed by unprecedented displays of fundamentalist, religious and anti-western feeling. This negative image is very harmful for a country of some sophistication and Power 100 will allow the world to see that we are well educated, have a strong collective IQ and have the ability to stand alongside the world’s greatest intellectuals, industrialists, artists and scientists. khalid darr chairman power 100
