world food awards. in addition to this Shahid was also the first asian<br />
chairman of the leicestershire branch of the institute of directors, a<br />
non-executive chairman of cSd Global, partner of<br />
Sportscorporation.com (exclusive re-sellers of amir khan tickets) and a<br />
partner in dmS Sports, supplier of clothing apparel to major clubs such<br />
as leicester county cricket club to name just one. Shahid is also<br />
extremely committed to helping and supporting charities, in particular<br />
rainbows, loros, wishes for kids and derbyshire, leicestershire and<br />
rutland air ambulance and even hosted leicester’s biggest<br />
multicultural party in aid of these charities.<br />

Jehangir malik oBe is the director of<br />
islamic relief Uk, with a long and rich<br />
career in the humanitarian sector. in 2006,<br />
Jehangir was appointed director of islamic<br />
relief Uk, and in 2010 was awarded an<br />
oBe by her majesty the Queen, in<br />
recognition of his 20 years of dedication and<br />
contribution to the humanitarian cause.<br />
during the course of his career, he has visited numerous field missions<br />
including pakistan, afghanistan, the Balkans, Sudan, kenya, Somalia,<br />
chechnya, iraq and Yemen. he has remained an active member of the Uk<br />
community throughout, participating in and encouraging civic<br />
engagement, such as the mosaic mentoring scheme initiated by hrh the<br />
prince of wales.<br />
DR LIAQUAT MALIK<br />

dr. malik, aged 50, chairman of the<br />
dm Broadcasting network, owns a<br />
portfolio of businesses which include<br />
a leading broadcast company,<br />
available to over 17.1 million Uk<br />
households and to over 30 million<br />
households in asia. this has made the<br />
dm digital television network the<br />
largest of the asian free to air channels. this company was the first to<br />
broadcast programmes in six languages: english, punjabi, Urdu, Sindhi,<br />
persian and hindi. the channel is available through Sky, Jadoo tV and<br />
asia Sat platforms as a free view for over 180 countries with several<br />
regional licenses and viewers from the Uk, europe, the middle east,<br />
africa, and asia. the programmes cover a range of genres which include<br />
live tV, entertainment, news, current affairs, sports, and children’s<br />
programmes.<br />
dr. malik has also diversified his business interests in a property letting<br />
agency, and also a higher education college. in his thriving portfolio of<br />
entrepreneurial enterprises, dr. malik employs over three hundred fulltime<br />
staff worldwide. this is divided between his national and<br />
international operations. in the Uk, he is managing a hundred<br />
employees who work on a full-time basis, and two hundred full-time<br />
employees in pakistan.<br />
DR SYED NAYYER ABIDI<br />
dr abidi is a British asian doctor & a health<br />
promotion Specialist. his area of interest is<br />
preventive medicine in public health and he has<br />
recently been honoured with an mBe by hm the<br />
Queen for his 12 years-long community health<br />
services. during 1998 -1999, he worked in the<br />
radiology department of north manchester General<br />
hospital as clinical assistant. in 2002, he launched the U.k’s first-ever<br />
bilingual (english/Urdu) book ‘prevention is always better than cure’. So<br />
far, about 5,000 copies had been distributed to public/nhS libraries, G.p<br />
surgeries and a & e units. during 2003-2006, he served as ceo of a health<br />
awareness trust and organised 30 national health awareness seminars in<br />
Greater manchester area. he is spokesperson of the association of pakistani<br />
physicians & Surgeons of the U.k and also the ambassador of the cancer<br />
research Uk, fellow of the royal Society of public health & founder<br />
director (since 2006) of community health involvement & empowerment<br />
forum (chief), a national social enterprise in health & social care that<br />
exists to serve health needs of the Bme communities of the U.k<br />
49
