Seeing his vision become reality has been difficult, but thankfully the love and support of his family and his supporters has got him to where he is today. nafees has always used music as an escapism, to help him through the good and the bad times. he hopes to create music to connect with people’s emotions, and be as big of an influence in people’s lives as his musical idols have been for him. nafees always tell everyone that has an ambition in life to follow your heart. work as hard as you can, then leave the rest to the mighty one. You will receive whatever is written for you. Qais ashfaq has been boxing since the age of 8, he was first exposed to the sport through his uncle and his son who also boxes, they took him to the gym one day and Qais’s boxing journey began. Boxing kept Qais off the streets and on the right track.throughout his journey so far he has achieved a great amount, he has won 7 national titles, 4 GB titles, common-wealth Youth Gold medal, tammer Gold and many other international honours like Boxer of the tournament awards abroad he was also asked to be a torch bearer for the london 20120 olympics. Qais boxed for england since he was 14, and he is now on the GB Boxing team for the rio 2016 olympics and the Glasgow 2014 commonwealth Games, Gold in both these is his aim! Qais believe there are no limits to his success as long as he keeps working hard. Born in pakistan, Zia Salik came to the Uk at a young age. he has always been heavily involved in community initiatives across the Uk, helping to set up youth and community development projects in several cities. Graduating in Software engineering from the University of hull, he worked in the it sector before returning to work in the community. he joined humber all nations alliance (hana) in 2007, and as programmes manager, he played a key role in increasing its capacity and ensuring sustainability. he is the chair of the humberside police independent advisory Group and sits on the board of trustees for pickering and ferens homes. in July 2010, he joined islamic relief as the regional fundraising manager, just a week before the biggest floods in pakistan’s history. he was able to manage a successful fundraising campaign for the floods, raising £1.2m to help those affected by the disaster. She is known for her charitable work which has seen her in muzzafarabad working as an aid worker, a place which was devastated by the earthquake in 2005. working from one of the camps she was part of the relief operation which was trying to mobilise the people affected by this disaster. this incredible and moving experience led her to move over to pakistan. in pakistan she worked for a human rights organisation and got involved with micro finance. Syra is also active in the field of media. She has produced and hosted radio shows on fm100 pakistan and managed the pr and media for the first pakistan fashion week which was hosted in london in 2011. her broad knowledge of pakistan has led her to contribute to al Jazeera english. Syra munir is a committee member of the pakistan Society. Shakeel’s parents arrived in this country illiterate, having not attended a day of school between them. Shakeel grew up in manningham, attending Belle Vue Boys School and seeing many of his friends turn to crime. despite this, Shakeel achieved outstanding academic success, obtaining 3 a grades at a level (scoring 100 per cent in several papers). he then graduated with a law degree from cambridge University following in the footsteps of his oxbridge role models imran khan and allama iqbal. Shakeel was elected president of the cambridge University pakistan Society, has advised the pakistani high commission and has been a governor of Belle Vue. he is an ambassador of Bradford council’s Bsomeone campaign which aims to provide outstanding role models for youngsters in the area. Shakeel is now a solicitor at leading firm walker morris where his clients include Bradford council, leeds United, and moss Bros Group plc. SAIMA MIR Writer Saima mir is an award-winning journalist who has worked at the BBc, and written for various media outlets including the Guardian and the times. in 2010 she was the recipient of the commonwealth Broadcast association travel award. She spent time reporting from pakistan. Saima presented the Jinnah awards 2010 and 2011 at the foreign office, and will be presenting the Brit writers awards 2012 in london later this year. S he is co-founder of the world’s first social ancestry site for South asians, the site has received attention from the wall Street Journal, the new York times, the BBc, the Guardian, and the times. She is currently writing a book and developing a documentary with mobeen azhar and early day films. 99
