Celebrating our Silver Jubilee
GOOD WILL MESSAGE VERY
REV. EKOW AND MRS.
EUNICE SEY(OBUASI
DIOCESE)
The land on which the Methodist Day Senior High
School and the Methodist University (Amex) are situated
was originally earmarked for a chapel building. It was
one of the Lands ‘visioned’ for chapel buildings by the
late Mr. Odamtten and later Mr. Sammy Abakah past Lay
chairman of the Tema Diocese, both of whom happened
to be staffs of the Tema Development Corporation during
the period of Bishop S.K. Hodasi.
In 1982 when I relocated to community 11 but still a
leader of the St. Paul Society, Bishop W.R.A Blankson
asked if I could start a Bible class at Community 11, I did.
I moved the Bible Class out of respect to the residence
of Very Rev. E. O. Arthur (CdrRtd) who had candidated
for the ministry. I named the Class SEY – ARTHUR –
HAIZEL Bible Class attaching Bro. Ebenezer Haizel (the
Past Lay Chairman) who lived in Community 12.
The Membership of the Bible Class included Mrs.
Eunice Sey, the Late Maame Agnes Ansah, Beatrice
Asare, Mrs. Harriet Arthur, Mrs. Eva Haizel and Mss.
Olivia Thompson among other distinguished brethren. I
remember the early Sunday morning tea served by Mrs.
Harriet Arthur.
I started a Sunday School with ten children (including
four of my own) the late Kojo and AdomSey, Ekow Sey
Jnr. Turkson Sey and Abeeku and EboEssien. Sunday
teachers who sacrificed to team up with me in the very
early days included Ms. Constance Essien, Hajia Francisca
Essien, and Ms. Elizabeth Essien. In the course of time,
the very
Rev. John K. Bassaw clocked 50 years. He decided that
we celebrated the occasion with a prayer party. The
prayer party turned into a regular prayer meeting that
metamorphosed into a preaching post, following the heels
of the Sunday School. Membership of the prayer meeting
included the Very Rev. J. K. Bassaw, Bros. EkowSey, E.K.
Haizel, KwekuOwusu and Bobby Sackey.
It is worthy to note that, around this time the Bible
Class had moved from Very Rev. E.O. Arthur’s (CdrRtd)
