The musical follows Hansel, Gretel and Paddy the Gingerbread Man as they try to save happy endings for numerous fairy tale characters that were stolen by the Wicked Witch. The musical features all original music written by JAM — Justin Kono, Aaron Kaplan and Michael Goldman — a trio of musicians who have been working with the Highland Park Players since 2014. “We’ve worked in different capacities with each other for different shows,” Kaplan, a Northbrook resident, said. “This one was different because we got to work collaboratively, all contributing to both the music and the lyrics.” The trio had previously worked on “Winnie the Pooh” for the Highland Park Players, in which they were able to write two original songs, but to have creative musical control with “A Fairy Tale Adventure” was one of Kaplan’s favorite parts of working on the show. “It’s really cool to create something from scratch, “A Fairy Tale Adventure” 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Feb. 18-19 Edgewood Middle School, 929 Edgewood Road, Highland Park something that hasn’t been done before and something that is continually evolving,” Kaplan said. Producer Jamie Davidson also agreed that seeing the creativity the show afforded to everyone involved has been one of the most rewarding parts. “It has given an ensemble of 14 actors, three composers, our director and our choreographer a Please see tale, 25 Heidi Hansfield (left) plays Gretel and Molly Jacobson, of Highland Park, is Goldilocks in the Highland Park Players’ production of “A Fairy Tale Adventure,” playing 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Feb. 18-19 at Edgewood Middle School.
