Is a packaged gram a gram?
Gone is the need for sneaking around to get good
Bud. These days in the majority of our nation we
can simply stop by the store and choose from hundreds
of varieties of Cannabis. The packaging is fancy and
precludes one from smelling or verifying weight. It is
assumed that the info on the label is correct. Potency
testing can vary in accuracy, as labs have different
processes and procedures which are commonly argued.
Weight is not as subjective. A gram is a gram, and when
it is premium prices, anything less is theft. Experienced
growers know cannabis is mostly water, as much as
90%. Packaging product at exactly a gram is a mistake
and inevitably dishonest.
We set out to two stores
many miles apart supplied
by similar producers. The
first, Lucid on Martin Ave, in
Lacey was staffed by twenty
somethings with a real zeal
for sales. My secret shopper
is a 50 something woman
with decades of Cannabis
experience, the young lady
behind the counter was
enthusiastic. She pulled several
samples from the showcase. A
fat bud of Venom 21.8% THC
by Doc Croc was selected. The
clerk put the fat bud back in the showcase and turned
around to pick a package from a drawer, it was not the
fat bud she had asked for. Back at the only place we are
allowed to open the package (privacy of our home) we
discovered that the contents of the Venom package was
a few crumbs of flower and stems that weighed in at .8

grams on two calibrated scales. The harvest date was
listed as 09/01/2016. What may have been a gram back
in September of last year was no longer.
The second store is further south in Longview WA.
Marijuana Mart is a good example of a no pressure
shopping experience. The people behind the counter
greeted us and offered a written menu to select from
before anything was put on the counter. We chose
Lavender by Kitty’s Canna Connection. The label listed
a harvest date, packaging date, and a “best used by”
date. The contents weighed a gram, was a solid bud
and very fragrant. I asked the
manager how they selected
producers and product.
Kris Haskins explained that
everything coming in gets
sampled for weight and
appeal. These are people in it
for the long haul, respecting
customers and themselves.
If you ever get the feeling you
are on a used car lot being
preyed on by high pressure
salespeople, look closely and
watch for sleight of hand
tactics before the sale. A
harvest date should be at least
two weeks before package date. If it has a best by date,
know that the closer you come to it, the lighter the
flower contents will be. Of course producers could just
pack it heavy, like every other good dealer would do to
keep customers satisfied.

After getting a chance to
talk with many producer/
processors in Washington about
some of the issues that they
face on a daily basis, we got an
overwhelming response that
making long-distance deliveries is
a time consuming process that isn’t
very cost effective.
Many producers and processors
simply don’t have the resources or
manpower to have their products
reach shelves on the other side of
the state. What do you do when
you need to get your goods to retail
locations but you haven’t got the
time to hop in the car and hand
deliver it?
Simple solution, you hire a
transportation company to take
all of the heavy lifting out of the
equation! These companies save
each of their clients valuable time
so they can continue to focus on the
items of higher importance - like
ensuring that their product is at its
highest quality each and every time.
The state began issuing licenses to
third-party transportation services
on July 1st, 2016, and ever since,
more producer/processors have
been using these services and
finding themselves with not only
more time on their hands, but
they’re also finding more money in

their bank accounts.
There are many ways that
transportation services save their
clients money. First and foremost,
many smaller companies and
mom and pop shop producer/
processors got into the business
to manufacture top-shelf cannabis
products, not to be logistics
managers or transportation experts.
Also, many cannabis companies
cannot afford to make their
deliveries in a manner that are
compliant with the Washington
State Liquor and Cannabis Board
regulations. Those who do not
operate in compliance with the
transportation and delivery laws are
liable to face fines and penalties that
can potentially be more expensive
than hiring a transportation service
in the first place.
When transportation licensing
was introduced, companies like
Terpene Transit knew that for
many cannabis entrepreneurs and
start-ups, hiring an additional
employee, going through Labor
& Industries licensing, paying
hundreds of thousands of dollars in
insurance, having a new/compliant
vehicle, and meeting many other
regulations was not something that
was entirely plausible. In addition
to that knowledge, Terpene Transit
knew that they could do it better.
“What a lot of producers and
processors don’t take into account
is what would they do if their car
broke down in the middle of a
delivery? How would they manifest
it, and how would they protect
their product and investment? We
take all of the guess work out of the

equation and make life a little easier
for all parties involved,” said Scott
Vaillancourt from Terpene Transit.
Between rigorous planning,
finding the best routes, and the
actual transportation of goods,
transportation services not only
streamline the entire process for
their clients, but they also take

Cannabis is becoming increasingly accepted as a safer
alternative to opioids for pain control. Opioids are
associated with problems such as physical dependency,
nausea, and overdose deaths, none of which are a factor
with marijuana.
It’s been known for years in the patient community that
medical marijuana makes it possible to take fewer harsh
pharmaceutical opiates, but that knowledge is now being
confirmed by major scientific studies. More and more
physicians are educating themselves about the salutary
effectiveness of the cannabinoids.
Pair the overdose dangers of opiates,
along with the problem of physical
addiction, and you have some convincing
arguments to, whenever possible, use
marijuana instead.
There is a nationwide epidemic of opioid abuse,
addiction, and fatalities, as pointed out by Dr. Esther K.
Choo in the Journal of the American Medical Association
(JAMA), November 2016 issue. The problem has gotten
so bad, medical professionals are being asked to limit
their prescribing of narcotic medications for pain. But
reducing reliance on opioids isn’t easy, given that the chief
alternative, medical marijuana, is illegal in about half the
United States.
More than 650,000 opioid prescriptions are written every
day in the U.S., according to one estimate. Reducing that
number, without consigning hundreds of thousands of
Americans to intolerable pain, is a challenge.
And that’s exactly where marijuana comes in.

Twenty-five states, along with the District of Columbia,
have legalized the medicinal use of cannabis. The
federally mandated transition to limit and reduce the

use of opioids, along with the loosening of cannabis
laws, is leading to patients both formally and informally
switching to marijuana for pain control.
Studies have shown that states where cannabis is legal for
medical purposes have seen a decrease in both opioid
addiction, and in opioid-related overdose deaths. As well,
studies suggest that chronic pain patients get more relief
from opiates plus cannabis than from opiates alone. There
is clearly plenty of potential
here for transitioning many,
many patients to a safer
substance. Physicians who are
paying attention are well aware
of this.
“Our findings among
those aged 21 to 40
years are consistent
with previous
findings that medical
marijuana laws are
associated with a 25
percent reduction
in the annual rate of
opioid overdose and
that states permitting
medical marijuana dispensaries
experience a slight decrease in opioid
treatment admission and in opioid
overdose mortality,” wrote the authors of
a 2016 study published in the American
Journal of Public Health (AJPH).
“‘Don’t argue with success,’ is second only to ‘do no harm’
in my rules of medicine,” Dr. Gil Mobley, an emergency
trauma physician who has studied cannabis, told Kush
Guide. “Having been a medical cannabis physician
that’s treated hundreds of legitimate pain patients in
Washington, it’s really exciting in an ‘I told you so’ way to
see that science is continually validating what I’ve known
for a decade. We’ve even identified, on molecular levels,
the various pathways for the anti-inflammatory actions of
cannabis, which yield pain relief.”
“Now that we have identified those specific molecular
pathways through which certain cannabinoids can benefit
human health, you’d think that the medical establishment
would be quick to fall in line,” Dr. Mobley told us. “Well,
enter fake news and its misuse by special interest groups.
Medical professionals who have seen first-hand some of
the miraculous effects of cannabis have an uphill battle to
fight regarding public opinion. We’ve got to step up and
enter the discussion.”
While Dr. Mobley fears of a big pushback against
marijuana under the current administration, “With
science on our side it’ll just be a step or two back after
three steps forward,” he said.
Backing Dr. Mobley’s assertion are number of signs of
progress, including the fact that last year, the federal
Centers for Disease Control’s long-awaited guidelines on
prescribing opioids for pain instruct physicians not to test
patients for THC and its metabolites. This much-needed
development comes after many pain patients nationwide
have had their painkiller prescriptions canceled and care
terminated because of showing up positive for marijuana.
“I think it would be interesting to do a larger study
comparing high THC versus high CBD cannabis strains
in association with opiates in patients with chronic pain
and perhaps even having a placebo as a control,” said
Dr. Donald Abrams, who headed a 2011 study showing
increased pain relief when marijuana was added to the
regimen of patients. “That would be the next step.”

With the 2016 election behind
us, and the advent of
recreational marijuana in states
like California, Nevada, Maine
and Massachusetts, and medical
marijuana programs expanding
or starting in states like Arkansas,
Florida, Montana, and North
Dakota, cannabis tourism trends
are evolving.
Kush Tourism is the premiere

and web traffic that can accurately
indicate levels of interest in travel
for cannabis related purposes.
We have analyzed our data and
aggregated our findings to show
what regions have experienced the
largest dips and spikes in interest
following the 2016 election. We
have ranked areas based on both
the scale of interest (audience size),
and the percent increase/decrease
in interest.
States that recently legalized the
recreational use of marijuana saw
the biggest increases in interest,
while states that had previously
offered legal cannabis either
remained unchanged, or decreased.
The biggest increases in interest
occurred in Maine, Massachusetts,
Nevada, and California. Maine saw
a jump of 1006% interest, while
Colorado interest dropped 10%.
We found this to be interesting
given that Colorado recently passed
Initiative 300, which will allow for
public consumption of cannabis in
approved locations.
Colorado’s dip in interest occurs
as a result of the state’s inflated
tourism bubble. Before the 2016
election, cannabis enthusiasts only
had a few options of places in the
country that they could visit and
purchase marijuana legally, now
people on the East Coast who
would have traveled to places like
Colorado are more likely to delay
their pot vacations until states like
Maine and Massachusetts open
retail marijuana locations to the
public.
“While we have definitely seen a
dip in interest in tours, we’ll be OK
until the new states actually open
their doors,” says Tim Vee, owner
of Denver based Colorado Highlife
Tours. “We are currently looking
into expanding our tours into Las
Vegas. We have expected interest
to drop off at some point since we
first started, so we knew this was
coming. We weren’t going to be
one of the only states to offer legal
marijuana forever, so now we just
have to shift our focus slightly,” Vee
said.
While one might expect similar
trends in other cannabis friendly
states like Washington and Oregon,
they do not experience the same
type of bubble that Colorado does.
Coastal states see significantly
higher rates of tourism than the rest
of the country, so these states will
likely continue to maintain their
cannabis tourism figures.
We expect that interest levels will
continue to grow in and around
newly legal states, and fewer people
will be heading to Colorado for
their pot travels. We will continue

BATTERIES
VUBER warranties it’s vaporizers against failure for
the lifetime of the product. Vuber handles all customer
warranties in house and normally customers have a new
battery within 3 to 4 business days. Vuber batteries should
be paired with appropriate cartridges. Cartridges come in
a variety of sizes and oil viscosities (thickness). Varying oil
viscosities require appropriate battery voltages to optimize
use. For example, cartridges with high resistance (over 2
ohm’s) and more viscous (thicker) oils should be paired
with a stronger voltage battery to ensure an efficient draw
and usage. Please talk to one of our product specialists to
match your oil to the appropriate battery.
CARTRIDGES
VUBER offers a manufacture warranty and covers
any issues or failures caused by manufacture defect.
Choosing the correct atomizer is a very involved process
bringing in a multitude of variables. Viscosity being the
most important. Viscosity is effected by several factors,
including, temperature, altitude, and solvent interaction.
Using fluid dynamics, information about the various
solvents, and testing viscosities; our product specialist
provides recommendations on the appropriate atomizer
for your product to optimize efficiency of vapor production
while eliminating leakage. Vuber will work with your team
to make sure your oil is matched with the right cartridge.
