Walkis Ynoa
Making the move from ACE to college
Walkis Ynoa arrived in the U.S. from the Dominican Republic in 2010 with plans of getting
a college education. But her first step was learning a new language. “When I came to New
York, I didn’t speak any English,” says Walkis. “Through the CUNY Language Immersion
Program in the Division of Adult and Continuing Education (ACE), I learned English and was
able to enroll and pursue my Associate Degree in Business Administration at LaGuardia.”
Since earning her associate degree in 2014, Walkis has graduated from Baruch College with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting
and Finance. “LaGuardia gave me a chance to get closer to my dreams and goals, and I am so grateful,” says Walkis. “I want
others looking for a similar opportunity to know about LaGuardia’s many programs, including support services and scholarships,
to help students get on track towards earning their college degrees.”
