RIO NEGRO PROVINCE
GENERAL INFORMATION
It is a city in the province of Río Negro, Argentina,
situated on the foothills of the Andes, surrounded
by lakes (Nahuel Huapi, Gutiérrez Lake, Moreno
Lake and Mascardi Lake) and mountains
(Tronador, Cerro Catedral, Cerro López).
Bariloche is famous for skiing but also great for
sight-seeing, water sports, trekking and climbing.
Cerro Catedral is one of the most important ski
centers in South America.
The city has a modern airport equipped to receive
any kind of aircraft. Several of the most important
airlines of Argentina (Aerolineas Argentinas) maintain regular flights to Bariloche, as well as some
international lines from neighboring countries, especially during the ski season.
The city lies close to Chilean border and it is connected to Chile by the Cardenal Antonio Samoré
Pass that crosses the Andes Mountains.
Bariloche is placed on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi which gives its name to our first National
Park and third in Latin America: Nahuel Huapi National Park. This area of 710.000 has. That goes
from 700 to 2,000 m.a.s.l. is under strict conservation measures.
Gateway to Patagonia, San Carlos de Bariloche is a city with an important and sophisticated tourist
infrastructure, ski resort, international hotels, casinos and a wide variety of foods that combine the
taste of European and local cultures.

Cathedral: The Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de Nahuel Huapi is surrounded by two plazas with

Located on Nahuel Huapi Lake, this important center provides a variety of services from food
stores, children‟s playground and an ice skating rink (one of Bariloche‟s typical attractions).

It is possible to arrive by plane with Aerolineas Argentinas or Lan
Argentina.

TOURS
H/D CIRCUITO CHICO
Duration: half day
The tour starts in Bariloche, riding down Ezequiel Bustillo Ave.: a winding paved road along the
Nahuel Huapi lakeshore. At kilometer 8, you come to Playa Bonita, from where you can see
Huemul Island. Continuing along this road for another 10 km, and after passing through some
beautiful scenery, you arrive at Campanario Hill. A chair lift takes you to the top of the hill of 1.050
meters (optional), from where you can enjoy one of the most impressive views of this region.
You will see Nahuel Huapi and Moreno lakes, El Trébol lagoon, San Pedro and Llao Llao
peninsulas, Victoria Island, Otto, López, Goye and Catedral hills, and the main town, San Carlos de
Bariloche. Further ahead, and after leaving San Pedro peninsula behind, you reach Llao Llao
peninsula, with its namesake hilltop hotel and San Eduardo Chapel, two architectural jewels of this
region, and you go by Pañuelo Port, the starting point of many lake excursions. Further on you will
go by a golf course, cross the bridge over the Angostura river that joins Nahuel Huapi Lake with
Moreno Lake, and pass by López Bay at the base of López Hill. Further on, you get to the
Panoramic Point, a belvedere with a magnificent view of Moreno Lake and Llao Llao peninsula.
Then you will cross the bridge over Moreno Lake at a narrow end, follow the shoreline of El Trébol
lagoon, and 2 km ahead you meet Ezequiel Bustillo Ave. again and return to Bariloche.
H/D CERRO CATEDRAL
Duration: half day
Its name originated in the similarity of its summit with the towers of gothic cathedrals. Catedral Hill
is a first-class ski and winter sports resort.
The tour begins along Ezequiel Bustillo Ave. heading towards the Llao Llao. When you reach Playa
Bonita, you turn left and ride along until you reach the statue of Our Lady of the Snow where you
turn right. After leaving behind a salmon farm (pisciculture), you will be at the foothill of this ski
resort where that the necessary infrastructure needed for skiing. From the base there are various
ski lifts that take the visitor to the different ski runs. Return to Bariloche along the same road.
H/D VILLA LA ANGOSTURA & CORRENTOSO LAKE
The tour starts in Bariloche, riding down 231 route along Huemul River. During the trip you can
enjoy stunning sightseeing going to Villa la Angostura. At the evening you have got free time for
lunch. Boat ride to Quetrihue Peninsula, where we visit the “Bosque de Arrayanes”. Then we back
to Villa to go to San Carlos the Bariloche.
H/D CIRCUITO CHICO AND CERRO CATEDRAL

F/D VICTORIA ISLAND
Duration: full day
This excursion may begin in Bariloche or Pañuelo Port, on the Llao Llao peninsula. After sailing 30
minutes, you arrive at Anchorena Port on Victoria Island. From there you can wander about various
trails. On board again, the ship sails northwest towards Quetrihué Port where you will see the world
famous Bosque de Arrayanes (myrtle wood), which is absolutely unique and harbors centenary
trees. This wood has been declared intangible area and a natural monument. The excursion ends
upon return to Pañuelo Port or Bariloche.
F/D PTO. BLEST/CASC LOS CANTAROS
Duration: full day
The excursion starts in Bariloche and after a 25 km ride along Ezequiel Bustillo Ave. you arrive at
Pañuelo Port. There you board the El Cóndor catamaran and sail to Puerto Blest, on the western
coast of Nahuel Huapi Lake. One of the attractions along the way is Centinela islet, where
Francisco P. Moreno is buried. Once you arrive at Blest, you can visit the area or continue for
another 3 km bus ride to Frías Lake where you sail for 20 minutes the very unique green colored
water and enjoy a magnificent view of Mount Tronador, until you reach the Argentinean customs
office. Upon returning to Blest Port, you board the catamaran again and navigate to Cántaros Port.
A path of steps leads up to Los Cántaros Lake. Along the way, you can admire several cascades
along Cántaros River that flows down to Nahuel Huapi Lake. Then we walk down and sail back to
Pañuelo Port.
F/D CIRCUITO GRANDE
Duration: full day
You leave our office northwards along National Route 237, cross the outlet of Nahuel Huapi Lake
and the spring of Limay river, geographical limit between the provinces of Río Negro and Neuquén.
Following Limay River, you pass by the Amphitheater and then go on towards the Valle Encantado
(enchanted valley) and Confluencia Traful, a region of transition between the Patagonian steppe
and the Patagonian Andean forest. Leaving behind Route 237, you take Provincial Route 65 west,
towards Villa Traful bordering Traful River until you reach a natural balcony overlooking Traful Lake.
The road continues bordering the lake, passes through Villa Traful and head towards Arrayanes
Port. From there you go on up, through a shady forest, to El Portezuelo (940 m a.s.l.) where you
meet the Seven Lakes Road going southwards and you border lakes Correntoso, Bailey Willis, and
Espejo. Finally you take along National Route 231 towards Villa La Angostura. From here, there is
an optional sail to Arrayanes Wood. When we continue our ride, we will reach Nahuel Huapi Lake
once again and take National Route 237 that leads back to Bariloche.
F/D SAN MARTIN THROUGH 7 LAKES
Duration: full day
This excursion leaves Bariloche northwards along National Route 237, for 21 km until you meet
secondary route F. This is a winding road, with natural beauty all around. You go past Manzano
Port and arrive in Villa La Angostura. Once you left the village behind, you will be on the Camino de
los Siete Lagos, or Seven Lakes Road: these are Correntoso, Espejo, Villarino, Falkner, Hermoso,
Machónico, and Meliquina. Finally, you arrive in San Martín de los Andes on the shores of Lácar
Lake. The return trip to Bariloche can be through Paso Córdoba or along National Route 40 via
Junín de los Andes and La Rinconada.

F/D CERRO TRONADOR W/LAS NALCAS FALL
Duration: full day
You leave Bariloche southwards and border Gutiérrez and Mascardi lakes. Further on, the road
also borders the western arm of Mascardi Lake along a winding road up to Pampa Linda. After
riding a few more kilometers you get to a brook. As from there you walk on for about 30 minutes:
after crossing a suspension bridge you will go through a forest of lenga (Nothofagus pumilio) and
canes (Chusquea culeou) until you reach a cliff from where you can enjoy the view of Las Nalcas
fall. All around the fall we can see the great Nalca (Chilean rhubarb) leaves that can grow as big as
a meter wide. We go back on time for lunch and continue later to the Black Glacier belvedere.
Return is scheduled at 15:45 so as to be back at the hotel at 18:00.
From September to November there is a lot of water. From December to April, the water fall
becomes much thinner. And from May to October, the excursion depends on the road conditions.
F/D BOLSON AND PUELO LAKE
Duration: full day
The road heads off south along National Route 258, which is completely paved. You ride along the
lakeshores of the Gutiérrez, Mascardi and Guillelmo Lakes, going past places like La Veranada and
Pampa del Toro. Then you go down to a hamlet next to Villegas River. Once you cross two rivers,
Foyel and Quemquentreu, you will arrive at El Bolsón a town surrounded by mountains over 2000
m high, which give it a favorable climate for growing fine fruits, such as strawberries, raspberries,
and so on. A very interesting place to visit is the craftsmen marketplace, famous for its works in
copper, wood and ceramics.
In winter, visitors can enjoy the Piltriquitrón Hill ski resort. In summer, it is an ideal place for trout
fishing and many beautiful excursions.
You return to Bariloche by the same road.
ADVENTURE TOURS
BIKING IN LAGO GUTIERREZ
Jump on a bike ...
…and take a ride
This outing is about three hours long.
The ride has a difficulty rating of low, because the ground is mostly level.
The guests get driven to Lake Gutierrez in a 4x4, located about 15kms. From the centre of the city;
the bikes wait at the” El Retorno Inn”.
The ride starts at “Lake Gutiérrez”, Pedalling through side trails and passing the park warden‟s
house. From there we enter the forest, riding on trails which follow a stream, until we reach the
spectacular Nome‟s cascade”, perfect for relaxing and taking pictures. On the way back we ride
along the Gutierrez stream, and along a trail that leads to “Virgen de las Nieves”. Here the scenery
changes again to forest, located in a maupache village. From there we return to the vehciles. At the
“EL Retorno Inn” we enjoy tea and biscuits to close the day.
We return to the hotel at 5pm

SUMMIT OF MOUNT CHALLHUACO
Touch the sky with your hands ...
... Hike Challhuaco.
Drive from downtown (hotels) to Neumeyer refuge.
Here we begin a relaxing walk with no technical areas. All you need is to be healthy and have a
desire to walk!
The first part of the hike takes place in a forest; you then walk past the “Green Lagoon. We keep
walking to approximately 1600 meters above sea level. From there the environment starts to change
into “high Andean” climate, characterized by the plants and reduced sizes from adapting to the soil.
Some of them have edible fruits in the summer: the chaura for example, tastes like apple but is
smaller than a cherry.
The walk to the summit takes about 3 hours; it is also the ideal location for a breakfast and lunch. On
the walk back (which doesn‟t take long), we can take two different routes depending on the weather,
which can change at any time.
This makes up part of the Trekking in National Park Nahuel Huapi.

CERRO TRONADOR – THREE WALKS
Forget running in the city…
…Walk along the mountains.
We leave the hotel at 8 am, south towards route 258, bordering Lakes Gutierrez and Mascardi.
We then continue along a first road which crosses the Manso River and hugs the coast of Lake
Mascardi, until we arrive to Corazon island a.k.a. Piuque Huapi. Along this ride (westward) we will
see how the vegetation varies. We then continue to the hotel Tronador, where we begin our first of
three walks; First to the waterfall “Los Cesares” an enchanting place made up of three different
streams landing in front of a large boulder (about 40 min. long). We then walk back to the vehicles
and head to “Pampa Linda” for lunch. After a couple “mates” and a much needed rest, we head
down the Ana Mariana trail; we walk past the mouth of the Manso and reach the “Ventisquero
negro”. It is presumed that this walk will last about half an hour. Again we board the vehicle and drive
to the beginning of the trail and after a short walk we arrive at “Saltillo de las Nalcas” (beautiful
waterfall which is found in the middle of the Coihues forest).
6:30 pm we head back to the hotels.
This makes up part of the multi –adventure summer.

WALKING CITY TOUR
Get in touch with the past…
For some one who would like to take a walk in the city with a bit of history, any excursions are worth
taking.
The city, with a tour of our city and Patagonia museum
The city tour covers and explains the life and growth of the downtown {centre}, the cathedral, and
historic neighbourhoods.
The Patagonia museum located in the civil centre is where we learn about the evolution of our city
and culture.
The idea is to see all the main sights with our guides and learn about the past and present in a few
hours.
Type: walking
Length: From 10 am to 1 pm.
Difficulty: Low.
Suggestions: Dress comfortably, take pictures!

FREY REFUGE ALONG THE SUMMIT
We drive from the hotel to the base of “Mount Catedral”, where we use Esther chair lift, or gondola to
reach the top of the mountain. At the top of the mountain we have an incredible view of the lake and
the Andes.
From this point we begin our walk.
After walking to the top we cross to the other side of the mountain without leaving altitude, we head
south.
On this stretch of the walk the sights of Rucaco Valley, Mount Catedral, Mount Lopez, And Mount of
the 3 wise men Re spectacular and perfect for taking pictures. After a couple hours of walking we
reach a side trail, and turn left. We descend until we reach the Schmoll lagoon, a typical high altitude
lagoon.
Later we continue on our walk and reach the Frey refuge, located at the end of Toncek lagoon at
about 1700 maters above sea level.
This place is very overwhelming for various reasons. One of them is the geological formations of the
region, in this case represented by granite towers and rock faces that transform this place practically
unique and ideal for sport rock climbing in Argentina.
We eat lunch at the refuge and take a break before starting our descent. At this point we‟ll see the
old refuge (Piedritas Refuge), a couple more hours of walking and we reach Lake Gutierrez.
From there we begin our return to Bariloche.
This makes up part of the Trekking in National Park Nahuel Huapi.

THE NEUMEYER REFUGE

Full day outing…
Passengers are picked up between 8 15 and 9 am depending on the location.
(Vehicles can take up to 10 passengers)
The day begins with a drive to the Neumeyer refuge, located on mount Chall-Hua-Co. After a
welcome coffee, a walk towards the “Laguna Verde”, this takes little more than an hour. In which you
will learn about the wildlife of the area. Then back to the refuge for lunch: as a starter; empanada,
entrée; carne a la cazadora (a locally prepared dish) with rice; for desert a fruit salad. For the
afternoon another walk is planned, this time to a city lookout, there the guests have the option of
trying “rappelling”. Once back to the refuge, everyone is greeted with a well earned snack.

For someone who would like to take a tour with a bit of history, any excursion is worth taking.
For those who wish to learn the history of the area, we will stop in three different places:
- The city, with a city tour and a look in the Patagonia museum
- Lunch at the Swiss Colony (not included in price)
- And the Berghof refuge where winter sports were born here in Bariloche.
The city tour covers and explains the life and growth of the city. (civic centre, the cathedral, and
historic neighbourhoods)
We then head to the museum located in the civic centre, here we learn about our history and culture.
We finish the morning with the museum and head to the Swiss Colony (one of the first villages in the
area).

FORTIN CHACABUCO HORSEBACK RIDINGS
Horse riding, the ranch being on the change from the forest coming in from the andes on to the
patagonian steppe, gives us two very different rides. in the morning we generaly ride on the steppe
and in the afternoon towards the forest. in the morning we go much higher which gives us very good
views of the andes, lake, bariloche, limay river. in the afternoon we see natural cipres forests. during
the day it is very common to see deer, eagles, guanacos, condors, etc.

RIO MANSO INFERIOR
The summer‟s most sought-after adventure trip. Ideal for beginners in mountain rivers, this trip can
be enjoyed by the entire family. Sandy beaches, thrilling rapids and the whole splendor of the
Andean-Patagonic woods. No previous experience required.
Agenda: We pick up the passengers at their lodging. We leave Bariloche through Route 258,
proceeding to Lake Steffen passing lakes Gutierrez, Mascardi and Guillelmo. Once at the Steffen,
while the guides set up the rafting gear we change in to our rafting attire. After a brief Put-in Safety
Talk given by the head-guide, we are ready to go down the Río Manso.
Surrounded by high peaks and exuberant forest, our raft drifts downstream while we watch the rich
flora of the National Park: coihue, cypress, arrayan, maiten, radal, colihue cane, chilco, etc. We can
also watch birds such as martin pescador (king fisher), bandurria, avutarda and tero. The crystal
clear waters of the Manso will allow us to watch different kinds of trout as well.
After approximately an hour and a half, we come ashore in a beautiful sandy beach, where our
guides will prepare a delicious lunch. The meal consists of: vegetables, cold meat, breads,
dressings, fruits, juices and something sweet.
Around 3:00 p.m. we are all set to resume the trip. From here on, the Manso becomes more and
more thrilling. Alka Seltzer, Billiard Edge, Hippo Tooth, Roller Coaster and Magnetic Rock are some
of the rapids we will run. In the summertime, we like to enjoy a plunge in the lukewarm backwaters.
After merging with Rio Villegas we run the most exciting rapids. When we arrive in the Lower Manso
valley, the trip concludes.
Once we arrive to our private take out, Campo Piedra Pintada (Painted Rock Ranch) we change
clothing and enjoy an exquisite snack. We then start our trip back to Bariloche, arriving around 7pm.

LAKE CROSSING
Day 01
After leaving the hotel we travel on a bus to Puerto Pañuelo.
Upon arrival we board El Condor Catamaran and sail the Blest Branch of Nahuel Huapi Lake.
We enjoy lunch (optional) in the cozy restaurant of the Blest Hostal with a magnificent view of the
lake.
After lunch we start a bus trip to Puerto Alegre which borders the Frías River during 3 km. On board
the Caleuche or the Dalca motor ship we sail Frías Lake for 15 minutes, from where we will have
the first view of Tronador Hill.
Upon arrival at Puerto Frías we clear Argentine customs and proceed on a bus through lush
Andean vegetation to the Vicente Pérez Rosales pass and then 29 kms. to the Chilean customs at
Peulla.
After customs, it is a short ride to Peulla Hotel where we dine and spend the night.
Day 02
After an early breakfast we board the Lagos Andinos Catamaran and set out to cross the waters of
the Todos Los Santos lake. On our trip we will be able to view Mount Puntiagudo and the
impressive Osorno volcano.
We will arrive to Petrohué and during our trip to Puerto Montt/ Puerto Varas we will do a stop for
visiting the magnificent Petrohué waterfalls.
End of service.
Remarks:
Overnight: The Lake Crossing trip Bariloche to Puerto Montt / Puerto Varas or viceversa can be
interrupted in both ways, staying more than one night, and continue on the following day at the
scheduled time.
Lake crossing is a tourist trip, timetable is referential, subject to weather conditions and amount of
passengers can change it.

Nahuel Huapi is a traditional hotel in Bariloche. In 1938
was inaugurated the Nahuel Huapi Hotel on the 30th April where it is located nowadays.
In the beginning, the hotel had only two floors with nine rooms and one bathroom. In 1953, the hotel
was remodeled twice, and more than thirty rooms were built. In 1964, the hotel was reshaped and
refurbished again, reaching 86 wonderful rooms.
Nahuel Huapi Hotel is one of the oldest in town and it had been managed for three generations of
Carniel family, who were always devoted to their work

Estancia Peuma Hue is characterized by the impressive,
energetic landscape that surrounds it.
To the north, facing the main house you find Lago Gutierrez with beautifully blue-colored glacial
waters reaching its banks and changing into a green-turquoise when mixing with Peuma-Hue bay
waters. To the west, the granitic steep slopes of D´Agostini Hills stand majestically guarding the bay
with its sacred energy.
To the east, an ancient wavy range of hills sets the harmony and balance in the soul. To the south,
a valley called "Divisoria de Aguas" divides the waters that flow into the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
ROOMS

THE LODGE
Main House
Its comfort, coziness, views and decoration have a special charm that catches your eye with each
detail in every corner.

It was conceived taking advantage of 360° of superb landscape. With large windows all around, the
house is built to enjoy spectacular views from each room. The spacious living room looks at the
Gutierrez lakefront, with a more intimate space around the stone fireplace for evening snacks. The
dining room, overlooking the emerald- green bay and the steep D´Agostini Mountain, is open to the
wooden kitchen and its views of the Continental Divide Valley.
Two bedrooms on the ground floor: decorated in own style with loving details in every corner:
southwestern carpets, wooden furniture and Indian masks, or iron beds, old pictures and patina
decorations. Take a hot relaxing bath enjoying the view of the lake from either bathroom, one in
southwestern style and the other with wooden home-made appliances. Wi-fi services is available
inside the around the park.
Casa de Huespedes or Guest House
Is it 250 yards from the main house, across a hanging bridge, is the guest house. With the same
comfort of the main house, in a relatively smaller size.
Full capacity of 8 guests in 4 double bedrooms with
private bathrooms. A large living and dining room with a cozy
stone fireplace offers superb views over the lakefront. Open
to the kitchen and divided by a bar, which allows vistas over
the Continental Divide valley as well.
Two bedrooms on the ground floor, each decorated in its
own style, overlook the lakefront and the rugged granite wall
of the D´Agostini Mountain. The charm of old original
furniture or iron furniture made at the ranch carpentry offer a
distinctive ambiance.
On the upper floor, one the rooms overlook the Continental
Divide valley, the ranch stable and arena.
The master bedroom overlooks the lakefront and has a charm of its own with its cozy fireplace and
wooden floor.
La del Arroyo or Creek Cabin
This was the sole building on the property when the place was bought. Beautifully recycled and
decorated, this cozy log cabin has a huge stone fireplace with windows offer views to the rolling
hills to the east and to the creek and the D´Agostini the west.
It consist of a double bedroom, a living room with 2 extra beds, a bar dividing the living room
from the kitchen and a bathroom with shower. Ideal either for a couple or up to 4 guests.
Cabaña de la Montaña or Mountain Cabin
There are more surprises to this enchanted land. 600ft up the
D´Agostini slope, with exhilarating views over the lake below,
facing hills and the Continental Divide valley to the south, this
cabin is placed in a dream location. At its back, a narrow, deep
canyon boasts 5 wonderful waterfalls amid a primeval forest of
cypress and southern beech “coihue” and “lenga” trees.
With a capacity of 6 guests, the cabin has 2 double
bedrooms, and upper loft with 2 more beds, 1 bathroom
and a living room with a large stone around, even from its
bathroom and kitchen. Have a snack any time during the day
at the front overhanging wooden deck, watching the lake.

Just 30 yards from the Main House this building holds 2 rooms that serve to multiple purposes. One
is 18 times 15 feet with wooden floor and a huge fireplace. Connected to the later, the other is 625
square feet, with a cement floor. A bathroom, huge barbecue and the lodge‟s main kitchen,
complete these facilities. With a capacity of 80 seated people, wi-fi facilities and other additional
services, it holds different events and can be used comfortably arranged to meet business needs
such as corporate meetings and working flamingo shows and classes; Yoga or Tai chi classes;

The new Victoria Island National Lodge was designed in the same architectural style as the original
lodge and built on the same site. The new lodge has a wood and steel structure and is more
modern and spacious than the original.
The lodge is large and luxurious, a comfortable mansion-retreat, built in classical "Andean style." Its
cypress woodwork, carved by southern Chilean craftsmen, creates a warm atmosphere.
THE LODGE
The new lodge has facilities that were unthinkable half a century ago. The interior is three times
larger than that of the original lodge. Modern materials and technologies, as well as the original
stone-and-wood spirit, create a unique, comfortable environment. The lodge represents a crossway
of globalization and ethnic regionalism.
In the stone basement lies the wine cellar, the only one for miles around. There is also a rich
collection of Spanish, English, and French literature. Adults may enjoy smoking, drinking, or reading
in the recreation room.
On the main floor you will find the front desk, living rooms with palace-size fireplaces, the restaurant
and bar, the terrace, and a meeting room with a home theater and satellite TV.
Also located on this floor is the spa, sauna, Jacuzzi, and heated outdoor swimming pool.
Twenty rooms and two suites are housed on the top floor, each with a jacuzzi in the bathroom.
Twelve rooms look toward Anchorena Bay, and the other ten face Grimm's Forest. Smoking is not
allowed in these rooms, but it is permitted in the living room and the smoking room.

The twelve rooms overlooking Anchorena Bay provide a view that is among the best in the world-
an exceedingly beautiful landscape, penetrated by the afternoon sun.
The other ten rooms, looking towards the morning sun and Grimm's Forest, are more intimate and
quiet. At night, deer used to eat the roses in our garden and scratch their horns on the small trees.
We had to take out the roses and protect the trees.
All rooms combine the same taste for luxury and comfort that characterizes a "hotel boutique", with
the informal atmosphere of a high Patagonian retreat.
Rooms do not have televisions or mini-bars. There is a single large-screen television in the lodge.
We provide 24 hour room-service and self-service.

The most isolated lodge in Argentina, this retreat is far
away from cars, engines and noises. Wilderness surrounds
the lodge to the north, east, and south. Westwards there is

ACTIVITIES
Lovers of quiet, meditation, and contemplation don't need to stray but a few paces from the lodge,
or they may opt to stay in the library.
For those who connect with nature through movement and action, the lodge provides the necessary
equipment and guides. There are several means for discovery: aside from your own legs, there are
horses, mountain bikes, neoprene suites and kayaks.
Experienced guides suggest a daily variety of explorations around the island, according to
individuals' physical aptitude and the weather.
By land -on foot, horseback, or on two wheels.
By water -in kayaks, snorkeling.
The purpose of the explorations is always the same: to discover the inner world of Victoria Island.
It's easy to get lost in the forests of both the southern and northern island. Because of this danger,
all explorations outside the central isthmus are guided.
The 100 acres of Anchorena Bay and its inlet and inner harbors may be explored entirely by rowing
small boats or kayaks.
Horses may go as far north as Laguna del Pescado and Puerto Turbina in daylong expeditions.
With mountain bikes and using the chair lift to Bella Vista hilltop, you can get as far as you can on
horseback.
Island hikes may be easy and short, or of medium length and difficulty. For expert hikers, there are
the Andean peaks of almost 2,000 meters (6,500 ft) that face the island.
These different activities may be combined according to guests' needs. In daylong expeditions, an
unforgettable "dèjeneur sur l'herbe" is provided.

Come and experience the wonders of the wild Patagonia at Arroyo Verde where superb fly fishing
for land-locked salmon, brown and rainbow trout takes place in the incomparable beauty of the
Traful River.
The imposing surroundings Andes Mountains are the perfect place for the most exciting horseback
and trekking excursions, and a unique spot for bird watching.
Enjoy the magic of having outdoor meals by the lake trying the traditional asado, the Argentine way
to cook delicious meat.
Location
Arroyo Verde" is situated in the foothills of the Andes mountain range, Neuquén Province, in
northern Patagonia, which is known as the Lake District due to the many lakes left behind by
ancient glaciers that receded some millions of years ago.
From the beginning of the 20th century, this property has enjoyed very special environmental
protection because it lies within a Natural Reserve that is part of the Nahuel Huapi National Park,
one of the oldest in the country.
"Arroyo Verde" nestles in the Traful Valley overlooking Lake Traful, which is the source of the river
that runs beautifully through it.
The “estancia”, Spanish word for ranch, is on the northern side of the river and occupies an area of
12.500 acres. "Arroyo Verde" with its fantastically varied flora and fauna, is devoted to cattle
breeding and sheep-rearing.
How to get there
Direct two-hour flight from Buenos Aires to Bariloche.
From Bariloche airport, Arroyo Verde is 1 hour drive.
Climate and Clothing
The best time to visit Arroyo Verde is during our summer, November through April.
The days are usually sunny and range from mild to hot. The nights are generally cool. It rarely rains
in summer. April and May are also lovely months to visit and enjoy the fall colors; it can be a lot
cooler at this time of year though.
Dress is always casual. You will need clothes that are
comfortable for riding and suitable for fishing. Warm clothing and
a waterproof parka are recommended, as mountain weather is
rather unpredictable. Don‟t forget to bring your bathing suits! The
water temperature of both lake and river makes swimming
pleasant.
ROOMS
The spacious main house overlooking the Traful valley has 4
twin bedrooms with private bathrooms, a large comfortable suite
with private bathroom in an adjacent building, sleeps 2 and a log cabin, perched on a rocky outcrop
facing the lake, sleeps 2/4.

ACTIVITIES

Fishing
The season is from November through April.
The Traful is exclusively a catch and release fly -fishing river. At the beginning of the season, mid
November, the river runs high and fast, becoming
lower in December but usually with fast water till the
beginning or middle of January (depending on
weather conditions, especially the previous winter
snows in the mountains), the river then runs slow till
the first rains of autumn. Its width varies from 60 to
90 feet (20 to 30 meters).
Fishermen will need chest waders throughout the
season. Good boots with felt soles are a must
because of the stones on the river-bed. Fishermen
must bring their own gear as "Arroyo Verde"
does not provide any equipment.
The river is a typical mountain one with pools and
rapids where the water runs pure and crystal clear
for more than ten miles through "Arroyo Verde". Parts of the banks are lined with bushes and trees,
making fly-casting more exciting and sometimes a rather challenging task.
Your favorite trout flies will be OK and you can add some streamers, wooly worms, wooly buggers,
muddlers, etc. Nymphs are very efficient during all the season; small ones (12 to 14) can be as
good as big ones like Bitch Creek or Montana Nymph (4 to 8). During the day the Spruce fly and
the Mickey Finn are very good for land-locked salmon.
For late hours, a Black Bunny can be the best chance to get big brown.
Dry flies -in sizes 6 to 16, Adams, Royal Wulff, Humpies- are a must in the Traful from the middle of
the season onwards.
The Traful is a very special river, it holds all different kinds if “salmonids”: rainbow, brown and brook
trout, land-locked salmon and occasionally perch. Although the average weight of the fish is around
3lbs. for trout and 4lbs. for salmon it is not uncommon to catch 7 to 10 pounders. 18lbs. salmon, a
23lbs. rainbow and 16lbs. brown have all been caught recently in the Traful. Something to think
about when you choose the tipper for your leader!
OTHER ACTIVITIES
Horseback riding
The place is ideal for many different horseback excursions.
There are shorts an easy ones that are fun an allow you to see
some places you can only reach on horseback. Longer ones -
depending on how far you want to go -last from half-a-day to
many days (it is understood that these last ones include
camping). They will take you up the mountains where you can
see lots of exciting things, such as real Indian paintings on
cave walls and the majestic flight of the Condors.
Trekking
There are many natural paths to follow up and down the mountains, along the river and around the
lake. Some include climbing so make sure you bring suitable shoes.
Bird watching
There are plenty of birds to be seen. The friendly Magellanic woodpecker, the shyer torrent duck
and the splendid condor are on the list.
Sightseeing tours
Sightseeing tour to neighboring locations can be organized upon request and has an extra charge.
Picnics
Summer temperatures allow you to plan a whole day outdoors, which is the best way to enjoy the
peace and quiet of the place
Hunting and shooting
Red deer and wild boar hunting expeditions can de organized during the month of March, April and
May (extra charge). While quail shooting can take place only in May.

Flying to Chapelco: 2 HRS flight, and distant 20km from San Martin de los Andes downtown.
From Neuquén along National Routes 22, 237 and 234 you must drive 435 Km. passing by Villa El
Chocón, Piedra del Aguila and Alicura or by National Route 22 from Neuquén to Zapala passing by
Cutral Co and Plaza Huincul, where you must take National Route 40 to La Rinconada crossing the
river Aluminé and taking National Route 234 to Junín and San Martín de los Andes.
From San Carlos de Bariloche, you have three options:
One is National Route 237 and 234, along 250 km. on a paved road.
The second is The Route of the 7 Lakes, passing by all the lakes of the corridor and with part of the
route under construction, being two thirds of the road already paved.
The third option is Paso Del Córdoba; accessible along route 237 from Confluencia, then you must
cross the bridge on the dam and take Provincial Route 63 up to the crossroad with Ruta 234 in Río
Hermoso.

entered Villa la Angostura around 11hs, go to the ports of the Nahuel Huapi, the Messidor (it calls
to account of the governor of Neuquen), Bay Apple tree, Arrayán Viewpoint, Cracked Bonito River,
at noon free time to have lunch and to walk, in the evening we left around 16:30 hs to arrive in
direct form at SM.Andes. Complete day of 9,30 to 18hs. - This circuit can be combined with VILLA
TRAFUL.
CITY TOUR
SEVEN LAKES – VILLA LA ANGOSTURA – TRAFUL
Departing from down town we will cross its street up to La Vega
San Martin, returning by the coast of Lacar Lake to the viewpoint
of Sol de los Andes Hotel. During the tour our guide will tell you
about history of the town, it architecture and locals anecdotes

Leaving in the early morning along National Route 234,
travel 115 km across exuberant forests, crystal-clear rivers
and pass by Lakes Machonico, Falkner, Villarino,
Escondido, Correntoso, Espejo and Nahuel Huapi.
At midday, the excursion gets to Villa la Angostura. This
beautiful tourist village, its harbors, the El Messidor
Residence and its gardens will be visited. Afterwards, the
trip to San Carlos de Bariloche is resumed, bordering the
great Lake Nahuel Huapi. Once in that city, the Civic
Center and the harbor will be visited and excursionists will
have some time to spare around the city.
Then, the shuttle will return along the same 7-Lake Road,
passing once again by Lakes Espejo and Correntoso, and it
will take the junction leading to Villa Traful. The road presents
an attractive ascent through the thick forest in search for the
Portezuelo Pass. As excursionists descend, they will make
contact with the southern coast of Lake Traful, which they will
see completely. Next to the lake, through a coihue forest, we
arrived in this small mountain village where a little more than
300 people live.
Staying at Villa Traful will enable visitors to go around the entire village. As they leave this place
behind, they will approach the heights of the Viento Vantage Point, an impressive cliff raising 70 m
over the surface of the lake.
The excursion will return along the route crossing the Córdoba Pass and bordering Lake Meliquina.

LACAR & HUA HUM BALCONIES
This excursion will allow visitors to see almost all the vegetable
species of the Lanín National Park, as they will slowly enter the
Valdivian forest, one of the most humid spots in the country.
Provincial Route 48 will be traveled passing by Trompul, a high spot
from where there is a beautiful sight of Lake Lácar, Chapelco and
Mount Abanico.
Yuco beach, with its volcanic sandy beaches and its myrtle tree
forest, will also be visited.

Once in Hua Hum, a spot in the west end of the lake, the Cristo de la Paz, a beautiful piece of
hand-carved rauli located in the frontier with Chile will be visited and, afterwards, the spectacular
Chachin waterfall will be reached on foot.

LAHUENCO HOT BATH
This excursion travels one of the most untouched roads
of the Lanín National Park.
80 km. of forests, lakes (Lolog, Curruhue Chico,
Curruhue Grande, Carilafquen, Epulafquen, laguna
Verde, del Toro), rivers of lava, hot spring wells, where
the visitor will be constantly amazed at so many varied
attractions.
Hiking across a spectacular monkey puzzle forest, a
vantage point over Lake Curruhue Grande is reached.
The shores of the Verde, del Toro, and del Escorial
Lagoons are the silent witnesses of the great volcanic
activity dating from centuries ago.
5 km from the frontier with Chile, amidst a leafy forest of
coihues, raulies and caña colihue, the Epulafquen or
Lahuenco hot springs (healing waters in the Mapuche
tongue) are located. They have excellent healing properties.
Visitors can take a walk amidst its main wells and also a
bath.

Fishing :
The crystal clear waters which cross the property such as the Quillén
River, Quillén Lake, Malalco spring creek and La Ofelia creek are home
to rainbow, brown & brook trout, and are very easy to wade. The
Aluminé River, 20' from the River Lodge, offers the possibility of one or
two days float trip. These waters offer varied fishing conditions, with
runs, pools, and long productive flats which are ideal for dry fly fishing.
We encourage fly fishing only and adhere to the principle of catch &
release
Fishing Season starts in November and lasts until May (late spring,
summer and fall in Argentina).
In early and late season we usually have chilly mornings and evenings but pleasant temperatures at
mid-day. During mid-season we generally experience cool mornings and evenings and warm to hot
middays.
Activities :
Excellent activities for non fishing guests: horseback rides, cattle drives, backpacking, hiking,

In 1908 Don Juan Lagos Mármol was appointed by the Minister of Internal
Affairs to investigate claims made by the settlers of Catan-Lil, a small town located in the province
of Neuquén, 300 km southwest of Ea Río Quillén. Obeying orders, he traveled by train to Neuquén
and from there on horseback the rest of the way. After riding for a whole week he finally reached
the town. While working on the investigation, he met Don Alejandro Arze, a local landowner, who
mentioned the possibility of renting two private properties of 20.000 hectares each. Don Juan fell in
love with the land and its people and decided to go ahead with the rental. After a few years, he
finally decided to buy the land and build what Ea Río Quillén is today, a paradise on earth.
Estancia Río Quillén is a private property nested in the Lanín National Park and only 120 km
northwest of the town of San Martín de los Andes.
We aim at providing our guests with a personalized service in a warm environment to make Ea Río

Our House:
The main house with its cozy country style was built with local timber and strategically placed on a
hillside overlooking the valley and River Quillén.
Breakfasts on the verandah and sharing drinks facing the spectacular sunsets by the fireplace are a
unique pleasure.
All bedrooms, most of which overlook the valley, are comfortable and pleasantly decorated.
Estancia Río Quillén offers as well two comfortable cabins - The River Cabin and the Lake Cabin.

Estancia Río Quillén is strategically located in the Lanín National Park ensuring the most
spectacular horse rides in Patagonia.
Our rides to the summit of Mt Ruca Choroi to see Chile on the other side, along Lake Quillén, and
through rivers and indigenous forests are paradise for keen riders.
Our horses are well schooled local stock horses, polo ponies and Arabian horses. All are well
behaved and sure-footed making our rides in the cordillera most enjoyable. All our horses neck
rein.
Tack: Our saddles are Chilean saddles, “pato” saddles and old army saddles, and they all have
sheepskins on them. Our bridles are raw hide with “criollo” bits.
Fly Fishing

River Quillén, a classic valley river and home to aloof brown trout and voracious rainbow trout, is
one of the best places for dry fly fishing in the Argentine Patagonia. Its crystal clear waters, where
catch and release is compulsory, are exclusively for our guests.
Only small groups of two to eight fishermen are allowed within 10 miles of river. Although 8
pounders have been caught by the more expert ones, fish of 2 to 4 pounds are common in
Quillén's runs, riffles, and pools.
The Malalco stream, an amazing spring creek and tributary of River Quillén is not always open
because of conservation measures, which makes it every fisherman's dream.
Trekking, Mountain Bike & Navigations on Lake Quillén
For the more sportive spirits, we recommend combining the activities mentioned before with our
mountain bike and trekking programs.
At Ea Río Quillén we have seven first class mountain bike equipments available for our guests
which can be requested at any time.

Waking up in the morning you will be greeted by the sight of the

Getting Here
To get to Tipiliuke, fly for 2 hours from Buenos Aires to San
Martín de los Andes (Chapelco Airport), where you will be received and driven to the farm (10
minutes).
Tipiliuke can also be reached from Bariloche by car (3 hours drive) or by air (30 minutes flight -only
private flights for Bariloche / Chapelco airport leg).
The Lodge
Tipiliuke is located in the center of the property. It has 9 bedrooms with private bathrooms, a living
room, a dining room and a cozy bar. All these common areas have WI-FI
The lodge has a special garden within the park of the main Estancia. There are about 200 species
of different trees from all over the world, acquired and planted during three generations of the family

Tipiliuke lodge, with its 9 bedrooms, is available for a maximum of 18 guests throughout the entire
season. There is another house called "Mayal" that can be rented as a single unit. It offers 3
bedrooms with private facilities and 2 bedrooms with sharing facilities. All the installations have
electricity; external and internal telephone lines,
heating and gas.
Mayal
Mayal is a large stone house, with 3 bedrooms with private bathrooms, a two-bedroom apartment
with one bathroom, lodging for staff and an 80-square-meter living area with a warm atmosphere.
The extensive patio has an outdoor swimming pool surrounded by 9 hectares of an old park that
borders the Chimehuín River. It is rented as a single unit.
Spring Creek
Tipiliuke lodge is proud of announcing his new private spring creek inaugurated in November 2005.
After the government approval Tipiliuke lodge was awarded with the first authorization in the
province to build a spring creek. The project has been designed by Interfluve Inc., a specialist
engineering firm from Montana (USA) - Season November to May.
The River & Trout Fishing:
The property stretches 14 km. along the Chimehuín river and 7 km. along the Quilquihue river. Both
are known worldwide for their fish and the magnificence of their water.

Description:
Since 1917, when the only access to these remote corners of Patagonia was by boat or seaplane,
the visionary pioneer Primo Capraro, enchanted by the magnificent scenery, built a small wooden
cabin which was overrun by friends, visitors and fly-fishermen. Thereafter it grew by stages into this
excellent and modern hotel.
In 1943 his son Francisco built the main central structure with blocks of volcanic sand, granite, and
cypress woodwork that for years was a landmark of the area. Nearly 80 years of history are
