Spotlight on Stuart Pain

After three years at Chelsea Football Club,

Stuart Pain has swapped The Blues and Stamford

Bridge for the sunshine of Dubai, working as Group

Sales Manager (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences

& Events) at Atlantis, The Palm.

We recently caught up with him to find out how the

move went and how his new life is shaping up.

How did you coordinate moving job, moving

home and leaving the UK all at the same time?

Was it stressful? And how have you adjusted?

Leaving my home, family and friends to go to a

new country was scary but over the last four years,

I've had numerous holidays in Dubai so I had got to

know the country and Atlantis, The Palm before

making the move.

I was also very fortunate in having friends out here

already, so the transition has been easy and I feel

right at home. Of course the daily sun, weekends

on the beach and playing golf has made it easier!

Even though I'm working during the week,

weekends going to the beach definitely make

me feel like I'm on holiday!

Do you have a 'stand-out' event or memorable

moment you can share with our readers from

your time at Chelsea FC?

I would say one of the most memorable moments

was being the hosting venue for the prestigious HBAA

kick off meeting and gala dinner in 2015. It was a

fantastic opportunity to really showcase the venue as

much more than a football stadium to so many great

event agencies.

Describe a normal working week for you now?

I'm working in a fantastic place and each day is

different and very exciting. My week includes

connecting with people in the UAE, Europe and the

UK building relationships, educating and updating

them on what is on offer at the resort. I'm regularly

going out to meet clients and hosting visits to

showcase our vast range of services available

for small to large groups.

Are there any differences between working

at Chelsea and at Atlantis, The Palm?

The venues are completely different in their

services and facilities, however the internal processes

and structures are very similar. Chelsea FC is a

well-equipped stadium catering for any type of event

and Atlantis, The Palm offers many attractions for

both small and large groups with everything integrated

within the resort. This includes private conference

facilities based in the west tower for business while

the east tower offers the restaurants and water

park for the leisure.

Are there elements of your time at Chelsea

which have helped you in your new position

at Atlantis, The Palm?

During my time at Chelsea I improved my

knowledge about the events industry, including event

associations and agencies, UK and international

exhibitions and trade shows, as well as developing

effective business and marketing plans to promote

and increase exposure of a venue that wasn't really

recognised beyond football. This has really prepared

me for this new and exciting adventure with

Atlantis, The Palm.

Spotlight on Stuart Pain

What has been the biggest lesson of your

career so far and what advice would you

pass on?

Treat people how you would like to be treated.

Always be friendly, polite and hardworking both

individually and as a team.

Be personal to everyone and welcoming, always

be patient and never give up. Your next piece of

business might come from somewhere you never

thought it would.

What five reasons would you give our readers

to choose Dubai and Atlantis, The Palm for

their next corporate event?

1. Dubai has fantastic international connections and

is very commercialised.

2. With 1539 bedrooms, 23 restaurants and a water

park, Atlantis, The Palm is a popular choice with

incentive groups and clients looking for first-class

conference and meeting facilities. Plus, with our

combination of leisure activities and business

facilities, Atlantis, The Palm proivdes an

exceptional experience.

3. We have superb private conference facilities

which are perfect for any sized group from

10 - 2000 people.

4. Our team of event sales and managers will ensure

the smooth and successful running of your event.

5. The weather, of course, and the beaches!

What do you do in your down time? Does it

differ from the UK? Do you have a favourite

place to go/eat/play?

It’s certainly different to the UK. I regularly play golf

and thankfully the weather is perfect out here. I'm

often chilling on the beach, enjoying yacht trips and

going to brunches, spending lots of time with friends

and trying new places (it’s very hard to have quiet

weekends in Dubai as there is so much to do!).

New Year's Eve fireworks! London or Dubai?

And why?

Dubai for me! I spent the New Year here last year

and it was the best I've ever had. Dubai has many

incredible things to offer and to be outside was great

as was the incredible entertainment, skyline views

and the fireworks.

National Bed Month: Residential Stays

March 2017

National Bed Month

Residential Stays

Although quality reigns over quantity,

The Sleep Council recommends between

seven to nine hours sleep for those aged

between 18 and 65 years, allowing our bodies

to replenish energy stores and make repairs

while the mind organises and stores the

memories of the day before.

Whether it's tucking up in bed with a page

turner or a long soak in the bath, stick to what

you normally do. Keeping your timings and

pre-bed routines the same will help with

quality sleep time.

Avoid hotel bedrooms near the lifts, reception,

restaurants, bars, vending machines and

housekeeping stations. And just in case, take

some earplugs to block out any white noise.

Find something familiar to remind you of home.

It could be having your own pillow with you,

downloading a favourite podcast or listening

to soothing music.

Set the room temperature to between 60 and

67 degrees, the ideal sleeping temperature

for most people.

So what do you need to do to help guarantee

a good night's sleep when you're staying

away from home?

Here's the guide to making a hotel

room feel more like home so your night away

is a restful one.

Finally, don't go to bed on a huge meal,

mute the mobile and silence your devices!

And, if you really want to know your delegates

are wide awake and raring to go, consider

a residential stay with your next meeting

or conference.

The Belmont Hotel

in Leicester is celebrating two high profile

connections with the launch of new family

bedrooms. The independent, family-owned

hotel has two new themed rooms linking to

space and the discovery of King Richard III.

The Space Room commemorates

Leicester's location as the home to the

National Space Centre and the University

of Leicester's successful developments in

space research since the late 1960s.

The King Richard III room is themed

around the discovery of the remains of the

last Plantagenet king of England in the city

in 2012 and subsequent reinterment in

Leicester Cathedral in 2015.

A room dedicated to the historic Premier

League victory by Leicester City Football Club

in 2016 is also planned for later this year.

Eloic Montagnier, General Manager at

The Belmont Hotel said: “The Belmont

Hotel has been at the heart of

Leicester for over 80 years now and

these two themed bedrooms pay

homage to two of the city’s most

famous connections.

The Space room is ideal for families

whose children aspire to be astronauts

and will provide an out of this world

experience. The King Richard III room

will take guests back to the days of the

Battle of Bosworth when the Richard III

became the last English King to be

killed in battle.”

With a dedicated business centre situated

in a separate wing of the hotel, The Belmont

Hotel offers four conference rooms, suitable

for one-to-one interviews through to business

meetings for up to 175 delegates.

Industry Interview

Sales and Events

Co-ordinator Sue James

talks about her role at

Kilworth House Hotel.

How long have you worked at Kilworth

House, what does your role involve and

what do you love most about your job?

I started here 12½ years ago, shortly

after the hotel opened. I'm involved with

the organisation of conferences and private

parties for our clients and also booking

theatre packages for guests visiting the

hotel's amazing outdoor theatre.

My role has lots of variety and I love helping

clients in arranging special occasions and

creating memorable times at the hotel and

theatre. I get great satisfaction from the

compliments we receive following

successful events.

What achievements are you most

proud of?

Helping the hotel achieve AA 4 red star status,

being part of the outdoor theatre from day

one and building a rapport with many regular

and repeat visitors.

What team building activities do you

offer at Kilworth House Hotel?

We don't organise team building activities

ourselves but we have 38 acres of grounds

for any non-motorised activities and we have

access to an adjacent field for motorised.

The estate has a lake for recreational

fishing for residents and there are various

recommended walks throughout the

grounds for guests to enjoy.
