Great British Sunday Lunch
This year marks the 75th anniversary
of the Battle of Britain, when ‘The Few’
took to the skies and defended the UK
from the attacking Luftwaffe. To mark
the anniversary the RAF Benevolent
Fund, the RAF’s leading welfare charity,
is launching the Great British Sunday
Lunch - the new national fundraising
event aimed at getting families and
friends back around the dinner table.
Whether it is a full-on roast dinner with
all the trimmings or a favourite curry,
the Fund is asking supporters to get
together and host a Sunday lunch on Sunday 13th September to raise vital
funds. What better way to pay tribute to those who have served their country
than by serving up some delicious food?
By supporting the RAF Benevolent Fund, diners will be supporting work to assist
veterans, serving personnel and their families who are facing challenges in their
lives. The Fund receives no government grants and last year spent more than
£18 million supporting 40,000 members of the RAF family, from the youngest
child growing up on a RAF Station to our WWII veterans.
We do hope you’ll join us in making the first Great British Sunday Lunch a great
success.
Childhood Cancer
Awarness Month
Friday 25th Sept
Visit the Macmillan Cancer Support
website at http://coffee.macmillan.org.
uk/ for further information and to sign
up.
This September is Childhood Cancer Awareness
Month and CLIC Sargent would love your readers to
help us support families coping with the impact of a
cancer diagnosis by taking on our £170 challenge.
£170 is the grant that CLIC Sargent gives to families after a child is diagnosed
with cancer, to stop unexpected costs like parking and petrol becoming a
problem. Money may seem unimportant when a child is diagnosed with cancer,
but families caring for a child with cancer often find that their costs go up and
their income goes down. So every £170 your readers raise this September
could help one more family move forward together.
It’s easy to get involved. If you’re a fan of flapjack or a cupcake queen, why
not show off your baking skills and whip up some tasty treats to sell to friends,
family or workmates as part of The Power Of Cake. Alternatively, turn back
time to your childhood with a retro day at your office. Come to work in your old
uniform, the classic double denim or dress up as your childhood hero. Collect
donations from everyone taking part and fine anyone who forgets.
CLIC Sargent provides practical, emotional and financial support for children
with a cancer diagnosis. Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a chance to
raise awareness of the impact of childhood cancer and of CLIC Sargent’s work
of currently supporting 18 young cancer patients and their families across
Renfrewshire.
You can also buy gold ribbon badges to wear throughout the month from our
online shop. From September they will also be available from branches of J D
Wetherspoon pubs, Wallis, H Samuel, Ernest Jones or Wren Kitchens.
If you’d like to take on the £170 challenge in September visit www.clicsargent.
