National Women’s Register
Celebrates 20 Years
On the evenings of 9-12 November from 8-10pm, thousands of NWR members
across the UK were on their phones trying to obtain clues to solve the next
piece of the Telephone Treasure Trail in this annual event that turns 20.
National Women’s Register (NWR) held its first Telephone Treasure Trail (TTT)
in 1995 with 231 groups taking part. Its success meant that it turned into an
annual event – one of the most popular in the NWR calendar. Now, 20 years
on, almost 400 groups got ready to take part over one of four evenings in the
2015 telephone quiz.
Each year, there is a different hidden theme for the quiz which becomes
apparent as clues are solved. Over the years themes have ranged from parts
of the body to capital cities. Groups taking part are sent their first clue and
once they have solved it, they ring an NWR member volunteer clue holder to
check if their answer is correct and to be given their next clue. This aspect of
the quiz gives groups a chance to speak to other NWR members all over the
country, adding to the national feel of the quiz. Once a group has solved 20
clues and their two hours are up, they send their completed answer sheet off to
the organising group for marking.
The overall winning group receives £100 with four further £50 prizes for the
winning group each evening. There are also two prizes for each night of the quiz
for the most nominated clue holders!
