Craft Fair A Great Success
Goodbye to Kilbarchan Golfer
Moira Hogg
A much-loved golfer from Kilbarchan died at the end
of October. Moira Hogg, previously of Brookfield and
Hillington, was aged 82 and was still dancing and out on
the golf course until earlier this year. Much of her childhood
was spent in Lamlash, Arran because of evacuation during
the Second World War. Moira retained a love of Arran
throughout her life and once swam from Lamlash to the
Holy Isle - about 1.5 miles.
She worked as a book keeper and cashier but it was as a sportswoman
that many will remember her as she competed at a high level in swimming,
tennis, badminton and golf and officiated at badminton matches at the 1970
Commonwealth Games. Moira was a life member at the Old Ranfurly Golf Club
in Bridge of Weir, making many good friends there. Moira was a also a keen
dancer at the RAFA club and played bridge for Ashley Bridge Club for many
years. She also managed to take part in para gliding and white water rafting in
her 70s by lying about her age as the age limit was 65!
Moira was treated for her myeloma in the Haematology Department of the RAH
and had nothing but praise for the efforts of the Doctors and Staff who cared
for her. She was a day visitor to St Vincent’s Hospice and £425 was raised for
the hospice from donations at her funeral. She is missed by family and many
friends.
A great Pre Christmas Craft Fair was held on Saturday 7th
November as one of Lochwinnoch Arts Festival outreach
a great cause.
.....................................................
As we are now well into the winter months, the weather
can bring its own challenges and concerns for our village
communities like Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch. At the last
meeting of Kilbarchan Community Council it was recognised
that residents in Station Road and Churchill Place have had
a particularly raw deal over the decades from the frequent
failure of the Combined Sewage Overflow to the job it is
intended to do. I raised the point that a more focussed
approach is required to bring Renfrewshire Council, SEPA,
and Scottish Water, together to work collaboratively to give
Kilbarchan a sewerage system fit for the 21st Century.
Accordingly I was pleased to be co-opted onto a new CC Sub
Committee to specifically address this issue.
In Lochwinnoch, the continual need for the frequent cleaning of the gullies
and drains is essential in the winter months to prevent flash flooding from
threatening homes and businesses, as recently happened on Lochlip Road. At
the last meeting of Lochwinnoch Community Council I informed the meeting that
I have written to the relevant Council Officers calling on them to formulate an
Action Plan to systematically clean out and maintain the gullies. The residents
of Lochwinnoch deserve no less.
Christmas will soon be upon us and I would like to publicly thank all those
individuals and groups who do so much to keep the fabric of community life
alive in Lochwinnoch and Kilbarchan all the year around with their efforts. I
also want to say that serving my Ward of Johnstone North, Kilbarchan and
Lochwinnoch, as your Councillor, is a great privilege and a pleasure, and I wish
all my constituents and their families a Happy Christmas and a Good New Year
in 2016.
My advice surgery in Kilbarchan is on the 2nd Wednesday of the month in the
Steeple Hall at 7.45pm, and my advice surgery in Lochwinnoch is on the 4th
Wednesday of the month in the McKillop at 7.30pm, excluding July. But I am
also always available to constituents who can call me on 07534 148224, tweet
me on CllrAndy4Ward8 or e-mail me at cllr.andy.doig@renfrewshire.gov.uk.
