About LSC
Crowned Best metropolitan festival at the UK Festival Awards, Liverpool Sound City is
an unrivalled festival of incredible live music and arts, capturing the city of Liverpool and
reinforcing it as the cultural core of the UK.
Since it’s inception in 2008, Liverpool Sound City has grown into one of the most important
and well-respected cultural events in the UK. Known as the ‘first music festival of the year’,
Sound City sets the standard for all music festivals to follow by bringing you the very best
breakthrough acts and major names before anyone else.

With opportunities available for the festival and for our conference, Sound City+, we

industry.

Volunteer Roles & Job Descriptions
Festival Roles
Artist Accreditation
Signing Artists in upon arrival at Sound City 2016, and distributing Artist Packs. You will need
to be polite, professional and welcoming to all Artists. You are the first encounter the artists
will have.
All artists will be required to pick up their passes for the festival before their given load in
time.
All Artists are advised in the advance packs to arrive on site at least 2 hours before the start
of their change over to get accredited and to get to their stage in good time. Upon arrival at
the festival, all acts head to Artist Accreditation where they will be issued with credentials
and shown where to park
Artist Liaison
There are two different kinds of Artist Liaison; Stage Specific, and Artist Liaison Runners.
The Stage specific artist liaison will work with the artist liaison manager to manage and care
for artists in their specific venue’s.
Responsibilities of artist liaison are to;
• Greet the artists at artist accreditation and guide them to their venue.
• Assist the stage manager with the running of the venue.
• Assist rider manager with rider allocations.
• Ensure that artist dressing rooms are prepared and maintained.
• Work with the stage manager to ensure that artist sound check/ stage times are adhered
to.
• To ensure the basic welfare of artists for their duration at Sound City 2017.
Artist Liaison Runner
The Artist Liaison Runner will be one of a team who will assist the artist liaison manager
with handling of artists across the whole site. The runner’s main responsibility will be to
support the artist liaison manager on site with all artist related issues at Sound City 2017
which may include;
• Greeting artists at artist registration
• Escorting artists to-and-from their programmed stages across site
• Answering general questions for artists using FAQ sheets

• Assisting stage managers when needed
Artist Liaisons will greet artists at the Artist Accreditation area, and show them to either the
Artist Green Room, or to the relevant stage across site. Artist Liaisons will then be
responsible for ensuring the Artist’s Rider is made accessible to them for the artist
performing on their relevant stage.
General Runners
Runners are a vital part of Sound City; your role is what is known as ‘ad hoc’ so you could be
assigned a number of different duties on each day.
These may include:
- Assisting with transporting artist equipment from the Artist arrival area
- Stewarding a number of our Wider Arts Spectacles
- Providing assistance to the Stage Managers in the event of a Stage Crew member’s
illness/absence
- Stewarding transport on site.
- Welcoming attendees of Sound City at Lime Street Station
- Assisting with our production company in roles such as Site Assistance or Radio Issue.
Wider Arts Delivery Team/Stewards
One way of getting involved with Wider Arts is to be a Steward; you will be helping to
steward and manage a number of Wider Arts events including Visual Spectacles and
Performances across both days of the Festival. This is a fairly dynamic role and you will be
needed at certain times throughout the day, according to the schedule.
Or you will be put onto the core Wider Arts Delivery Team to assist with all aspects of Wider
Arts, including signing in performers, looking after the Green Room etc.
Wristbanders
You will be the first point of call for Sound City Attendees!
You will be responsible for scanning tickets and after a full security check, wristbanding the
attendees upon entry into the festival.
This is a SHORT SHIFT - meaning you will get to see more of the festival.

Greeters
Your role at the festival is extremely important - you will be the face of Sound City+ and the
first person that people attending the festival will have contact with. You will welcome
attendees upon arrival - answering any questions or queries they may have or by pointing
them in the right direction. You must remain polite and professional at all times and greet our
‘Sound Citizens’ with a warm welcome.
Conference Roles
Registration Assistants
The main goal of the registration department is to ensure all guests are registered for the
conference on arrival and everybody has the correct passes for the day. Throughout the
day, our department’s job is to be the point of contact for guests as they arrive at the
conference. We need a team of smiling, approachable, helpful and polite people for the
registration desk will be held in the main entrance to print all guests passes and register
them into the conference. There are 3 areas in which you could be working:
§ VIP Registration
§ Delegate Registration
§ Student Registration
Greeters
Your role at the conference is extremely important - you are the face of Sound City+ and the
first person that delegates will have contact with. You will welcome delegates upon arrival -
answering any questions or queries they may have or point them in the right direction. You
must remain polite and professional at all times and greet our delegates with a warm
welcome.
Conference Runners
Runners may be needed throughout the duration of the day to answer any questions about
the exhibitors and label stands as well as get things such as complimentary tea/coffee and
help with the smooth running of panel events and speaker sessions. Some labels and expos
will be arriving the day before and will require assistance in setting up their area.
This is a fairly dynamic role and will enable you to get involved with lots of different aspects
of the conference.

Green Room Assistants
The green room is the home base for all Conference speakers and other VIPs. To those
volunteers assigned to work in this room, you would need act professionally at all times. It is
very important to be approachable, professional, informative and friendly individual while
working in the green room – as you are the face of Sound City+ for our guest speakers and
VIPs.
Stage Managers
We will have an array of sessions and events happening at Sound City+, including our
speaker sessions and panel talks. These stages will need to run smoothly, and Stage
Managers will be responsible for the smooth running of these sessions throughout the day
and keeping to the schedule set out for your stage.
Area Manager
Part of the uniqueness and charm of our chosen venue, Camp & Furnace, is that we will be
able to have a number of unique areas within the warehouse for our delegates to enjoy,
such as the Garden Area, where our food stalls will be. These areas will need to be managed
and you will need to make sure all of our traders are happy and well-attended to.
