AN <strong>INTERVIEW</strong> WITH NESLIHAN DEMIRKIRAN<br />
As METU TIMES CLUB members, we interviewed NeslihanDemirkıran. As you all know<br />
she is our Principal. The interview took place in her office. She welcomed all of us. First we<br />
talked about the things which make us happy in METU Primary School. Then she wanted to learn<br />
about our suggestions. Next, she answered our questions. We were very excited because we<br />
visited our Principal in her office.<br />
Students: Good morning.MrsDemirkıran.How are you?<br />
Mrs.Demirkıran: Fine, thank you. How are you?<br />
Students: Fine thanks. Let us introduce ourselves.<br />
Melisa: My name is Melisa. I am in 4-A. I am in the METU TIMES CLUB.<br />
Duru: My name is Duru. I am in 4-H.I am in the METU TIMES CLUB, too.<br />
Tayanç: My name is Tayanç I am in 4-G. I am in the CLUB, too. We are the Interview Group.<br />
Mrs.Demirkıran:First, let me ask you a question. What do you like most about our school?<br />
Students: Teachers don’t give too much homework. We love our clubs. We love visiting<br />
kindergarten students and we love our lessons.<br />

Mrs.Demirkıran:Good.What are your wishes for our<br />
school?<br />
Students: We want to play more on the grass playing area in<br />
the garden and we want longer breaks.<br />
Mrs.Demirkıran: I agree,I want you to play as much as you<br />
want in the garden too.However, we need to be sure that the<br />
garden is safe for you to play in when it is cold and snowy. I know you hope for longer breaks<br />
but as you know we have starting and finishing times.<br />
Melisa:Let me start asking my question. What is your goal in life?<br />
Mrs.Demirkıran: Being happy.<br />
Melisa: Do you like your job?Why?<br />
Mrs.Demirkıran: Yes, I like my job because I love children. I have a son.We have grown<br />
together so I would like to help all students.<br />
Duru: Did you want to be a teacher or manager when you were a kid?<br />
Mrs.Demirkıran: Yes,I wanted to be a teacher. I have been working with kids since 1993, even<br />
before you were born.<br />
Duru: Which one is more difficult, being a student or being a teacher?<br />
Mrs.Demirkıran: I think being a student is more difficult.<br />
Duru: Yes; I know this feeling.<br />
Mrs.Demirkıran: You have responsibilities to yourself, your school, your family and your<br />
friends.<br />
Duru: If you are a student, you have to study all the time. You have to study for the exams.<br />
Mrs. Demirkıran: Do you study only for the exams?<br />
Other Students: No, not only for the exams. We study all the time.<br />

Tayanç: Do you have a hero? If so, who is your hero?<br />
Mrs.Demirkıran: Yes, I do. Atatürk. He is the hero for all of us.<br />
Also,our Managing Director and Representative of the Foundation, Mrs. DenizKeskin.<br />
Tayanç:What were your childhood dreams? Did you reach your dreams?<br />
Mrs.Demirkıran: Yes, mostly I have reached my dreams and goals in life. I like sports and I<br />
had an opportunity to play volleyball for 12 years<br />
on a professional team.I have travelled around<br />
the world with my team for example to Russia,<br />
Germany and Austria.Maybe we can play<br />
volleyball together.<br />
Emre and Kayra: We are on the school<br />
handball team. Maybe we can play one day.<br />
Students:Is this your son’s photo?<br />
Mrs.Demirkıran:Yes.<br />
Students:How old is your son?<br />
Mrs.Demirkıran: He is 19 years old. He graduated from METU High School. He will become an<br />
engineer 3 years later.<br />
