AUSTRIAN MUSIC
EDUCATION
The AME-Masterclasses and Summer &
Winter camps are located amidst the
gorgeous mountains and lake regions of the
Salzkammergut, about 60 km away from the
festival city Salzburg. In 1998 this region was
commended as UNESCO Heritage site, not only
for its unique natural landscape but also for its
manifold cultural traditions.
Intercultural music teaching as an aspect
should teach young people respect
and tolerance when approaching other
cultures. Apart from that, it should evoke
curiosity and thus add new aspects of
the originally unfamiliar to the personal
understanding of life. By emphasizing the
close connections between artistic ways of
expression and ways of living an idea of the
fascination of old but also very new music may
be imparted in music teaching.

Since the nineteenth century
our region emerged as a very
popular meeting point for world
famous painters, musicians, actors
and composers who used their stays
as inspiration for their world famous
compositions and as new stimuli for
epochal artistic progresses.
This unique constellation of nature,
culture and tradition has been the
appeal for the foundation of the
“AME-International Masterclasses” of
our music school in Bad Goisern.
“AME-Austrian-Music-Education” is
a registered association to develop
regional and international language,
music, art and educational projects.
AME was developed and founded
together with the Federal Upper
Austrian Music School Bad Goisern.
The decisions, the strategy and
the realization of all projects lies in
the hand of the AME association.
AME could be seen as a educational
initiative. The communication
of music is done at a modern
and attractive level, where the
connection of different art sections
are in the main focus.

INTERCULTURAL
EXCHANGE
The Professors in our “International Masterclasses and Camps” are musicians
from world famous orchestras like Vienna Philharmonic, Vienna Symphonic,
Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, North German Radio Orchestra and from
the important music Universities of Vienna, Graz, Salzburg (Mozarteum)
and Munich. They are used to teach students with different age and level in
individual ways.
We offer our programs in Austria as well as in Asia. We are also visiting asian
countries on a regular basis to provide student workshops, concert series and
teacher trainings.

Destination
Salzkammergut
The landscapes charm, the special air quality and all the sports-,
recreation- and relaxation facilities have turned our region into an
internationally known tourist destination. It is part of the philosophy of our
masterclasses to involve experiences and activties in our mountains and lakes
to our work. We also visit important places of cultural interest, e.g. the 7000
years old picturesque town of Hallstatt or the summer mansion of Emperor
Franz Josef and Empress Sissy in Bad Ischl. Various projects and making
music in appealing sceneries are inspiration for new musical ideas.

Our AME-Masterclasses are also
inspired by different arts, like
literature, painting, and architecture
or philosophy. Taking this into
consideration it is a big chance to
create educational processes to
facilitate an aesthetic experience of
ordering interconnections between
the different arts and music from
the famous dynasties in the old
time to the famous periods of
classic time of the well-known
composers up to the musical and
cultural needs of our modern
society.
ARTISTS IN THE REGION OF
SALZKAMMERGUT
It’s probably the astonishing
scenery of the Salzkammergut
region, with its pristine lakes and
the awesome mountains, that
inspired famous musicians to
compose great music.
Great artists like Brahms, Bruckner,
Mahler or Strauss used to come
over and over again, flattered by the
beauty of this unique landscape,
also declared an UNESCO world
heritage place, and composed
operas, that count to the worlds
greatest repertoire of classical
music until now!
No wonder that music is still central
to the people living there!

INTERNATIONAL AME HEADQUARTER AT THE
FEDERAL UPPER AUSTRIA MUSIC SCHOOL,
BAD GOISERN
Our music school in Bad Goisern was
founded in 1991 by the Upper Austrian
District Government. The music school education
system in Upper Austria is organized by the state,
and it is one of the best music school systems in
Europe. The Music School of Bad Goisern was
replaced by a new building in 2009.

In our music school association with our
headquarters in Bad Goisern, and departments
in Hallstatt, Gosau and Obertraun, more than
500 students are taught year round. The
external works and several interior rooms were
designed by the “University of Art”. Our school
is built according to our padigogical philosophy
into 3 areas. MUSIC & EDUCATION, colourful
classrooms. MUSIC & COMMUNICATION, big
studio rooms. PRESENTATION & PRODUCTION

We offer students the possibility to
stay in our local private Youth Hostel,
local Bed and Breakfast or 3-4 Star
Hotels. We will do our best to manage
your bookings up to your desires.
Besides modern classrooms our
house offers space for ensembleand
band rehearsals, a fully
equipped recording studio with
video technology, a concert hall, an
outdoor arena with 400 seats and
also a roof deck for state occasions.

F
or over 20 years, the Upper
Austria Federal Music School,
Bad Goisern, has been organising
cultural exchanges and further
educational qualification workshops
with China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan
and other countries. We offer special
teacher training programs according
to the AME curriculum. For example:
How to teach improvisation, theory
of harmony, creating and writing
own compositions with students,
teaching music technique patterns
in creative and joyful ways, teaching
different styles of old and new music
including the cultural and social
surroundings as well as insights
into modern early childhood music
education.

Our AME-Summer Camps are

Taking this into consideration
it is a big chance to create
educational processes to facilitate
an aesthetic experience of ordering
interconnections between the
different arts and music from the
famous dynasties in the old time to
the famous periods of classic time of
the well-known composers up to the
musical and cultural needs of our
modern society.
Besides our music and instrumental
lessons for every level we do healthy
activities like swimming in local
lakes, hiking or horse riding as
well as programs like apainting or
performing arts.

WINTER
CAMPS IN
AUSTRIA
A
t our Winter Camps, we
also offer attractive winter
sports activities and courses with
cross-country skiing, sledging and
hiking in the particularly beautiful
winter landscape of our UNESCO
world heritage region. After a day of
music lessons and sport activities
you can unwind at our local thermal
spa or enjoy a cup of hot tea at one
of the cosy wooden chalets.

INDIVIDUAL
MASTERCLASSES
We offer individual camps, masterclasses,
concerts and workshops, both in Asia
and Austria with freely selectable programs
from the areas of music, culture, language and
exciting leisure activities.
WHAT WE OFFER BESIDES MUSIC LESSONS:
Language and literature lessons (in German or
English with lessons on cultural and literature
topics (trained native speakers). Arts lessons
with special trained arts teacher based on Arno
Stern (www.arnostern.com/en/). Cultural
excursions to other Austrian cities closeby like
Vienna, Salzburg (Mozarts Birth Place,
“Sound of Music”-Location) or Bad Ischl
(Summer Residence of the former Emperor of
Austria Franz Josef and Empress Sissy). Special
activities like staying at a mountain cabin,
doing campfires, visiting a local family and
bakery trying regional food, trying to play
regional and historical instruments,
performing at special venues like in the icecave
or at scenic outdoor spots and much
more.
