Lively and energetic playing from this group of<br />

Resident band for the <strong>Jazz</strong> Jam sessions at Holmes Mill,<br />

they will light up the Emporium for a couple of hours<br />

with some well known tunes to enjoy.<br />

The <strong>Festival</strong>’s debut gig at Holmes Mill is an attractive double<br />

bill featuring Canadian-born, London-based trumpeter/vocalist<br />

Jay Phelps with quartet, supported by <strong>Jazz</strong> North Ambassador<br />

band Firebird Quartet. Your bargain ticket covering both bands<br />

and food gives a relaxing & convenient late afternoon/early<br />

evening session in Clitheroe’s stunning new venue. Firebird<br />

Quartet play from 4.30pm till 5.45pm when food is served. Jay<br />

Phelps Quartet brings the session to a climax at 6.15pm.<br />

Melt-in-the-mouth locally sourced pulled pork,<br />

topped with crunchy slaw and your choice of<br />

Trumpeter Jay Phelps is at the forefront of a young and<br />

creative generation of jazz musicians in the UK. Vancouverborn<br />

Jay moved to London in 1999, immediately attracting the<br />

notice of Gary Crosby and <strong>Jazz</strong> Jamaica. He has worked with a<br />

host of top international jazz artists including Courtney Pine,<br />

Wynton Marsalis, Ray Brown, Jamie Cullum. Amy Winehouse,<br />

Hugh Masakela and Soweto Kinch. Here, he leads his Quartet,<br />

Firebird Quartet<br />

<strong>Jazz</strong> North Ambassador & Northernline band, the Firebird<br />

Quartet, is based in the north. The band plays contemporary<br />

jazz underpinned by solid, pure swing, rooted in 60’s and<br />

70’s melodic jazz, and present day. Firebird deliver enough<br />

sophistication for jazz aficionados, with a sense of groove any<br />

audience will enjoy. Firebird enjoys residencies at ‘The Phoenix’<br />

in York and several more established jazz venues in the north.<br />
