SUMMER FUN & SWIM CAMPS

Y Summer Fun NEW!

This camp is designed for children who like to do a little bit of everything. In addition to swimming and gym time at the

Y, these children will regularly access community facilities such as Queen’s Square, O’Dell Park, and Wilmot Park.

*Please note* Y Summer Fun 3-6 will be located in an unlicensed room within the YMCA. We will still be following NB

Childcare standards.

Swim Camp

Children who sign up for this camp must love SWIMMING! Children participate in instructed swim sessions as well

as recreational water activities through-out the week. Online progress reports and badges will be distributed to the

children as they complete each swimming level.

Campers will have a great time this week learning about the great outdoors -From hiking, navigation, camping, and

much more! Throw in the study of a few insects and some mud pies and our young campers will have an awesome

wilderness, learning experience!

Kreative Kids

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and every art project is a masterpiece! Try your hand at drawing, painting, making

and creating using a variety of mediums.

Super Scientists NEW!

Discover the mysteries and wonders of Science through different types of fun and exciting experiments. Learn the

unforgettable and create the unexplainable. Are you ready for the challenge? Discover Science at a whole new level.

This camp promises to be both fun and educational!

Animal Lovers

Small, medium, and large animals will stop by for a visit. If we are lucky, we may even see some really cool tricks! Visits

from family pets are strongly encouraged and will be the highlight of the week for these avid animal lovers!

*Please Note* Children will come in contact with live animals throughout the week. Proper hand washing procedures

will be implemented.

Dance

Summer is here; it’s time to dance for joy! Campers will be led by qualified instructors learning new moves,

choreographed routines, and meeting new friends. Children will also have the opportunity to make up their own dances

and put together a dazzling showcase that will be sure to impress parents at the end of the week.

Music Movement Mania NEW!

A high paced, fast moving fitness program for kids. Learn moves from a multitude of dance types! Energy and fitness

levels will soar as you get into the groove!

Buskers

grades 3-6 completed

Learn how to perform like STREET PERFORMERS! Sessions will focus on learning and practicing skills such as

juggling, unicycling, balancing tricks, walking on stilts, and many other unique skills. This is a relaxed but challenging

environment to practice the craft of busking. Learn a skill that is guaranteed to set you apart in a crowd.

Green Thumbs

Campers will experience wonders of nature and learn about vegetables and flowers that grow! Learn about gardening

and some skills and techniques such as composting, healthy soil, and the value of worms!

Take the Stage NEW!

Come take the stage and make new friends along the way. Learn a song, a dance, a scene, and then put it altogether

with guidance from energetic instructors. Children will have the opportunity to share their ideas and put together a

spectacular show for their parents.

Competitive Swimming

Take Your Marks, Get Set, GO! Campers will have fun challenging their own personal best times while improving their

strokes! They will practice their STARTS, STOPS & FLIPTURNS preparing themselves for the Mini-Competition at the end

of the week. A fun week of games and challenges with their friends designed to ensure lots of laughter and FUN!

* Please Note* Campers must be able to swim 25 metres without stopping (Swimmer Level).

Martial Art Camp NEW!

Campers will learn the basics of a variety of different Japanese martial arts. They will learn how to fall, roll, block,

punch, kick, and much more. It will be a week of learning how to defend themselves, all while learning how to avoid

conflicts. They will be preparing themselves for a mini-grading at the end of the week.

Sports Galore

Learn about a variety of different sports throughout the week! It will be great fun - No experience required!

Junior Leaders Grades 8 Completed +

This program will provide young potential leaders with apprentice counselor experience in our camps. Junior Leaders

will be assigned to counselors who will mentor them and provide support and feedback for growth. Junior Leaders

usually volunteer for a two to four week term in camps that are best suited to their individual interests and abilities.

Youth must complete an application for a Junior Leader position. Applications are available at the Welcome Desk

and are due by May 15, 2016.

Players will learn about ball handling, shooting, dribbling, offensive, and defensive concepts. Players will also learn

about sportsmanship and teamwork while increasing their own self esteem.

Racquet Sports NEW!

Each camper will enjoy this week developing various racquet sport skills (tennis, badminton, pickle ball) as well as game

knowledge and strategy. Campers will work on court movement, stroke development, and have fun playing games.

Soccer

This camp will focus on dribbling, passing, goaltending and other areas of the game. Players will also learn about

sportsmanship and teamwork while increasing their own self esteem. Have fun, work hard and meet new friends.

Boot Camp

Learn the importance of physical fitness through a variety of activities such as strength training, exercise, interval

training, and games.

Gymnastics

This recreational gymnastics camp offers skill instruction each day in the areas of vaulting, tumbling, uneven bars,

beam, and conditioning. Youth will showcase all their new-found skills in the YMCA Gymnastics Event scheduled for the

end of each week.

Rythmic Gymnastics NEW!

What is Rhythmic Gymnastics?! It is an Olympic sport that combines the skills of ballet, gymnastics and dance while

integrating ropes, balls, hoops, ribbons, and clubs. Learn choreographed routines with our trained instructor in this

exciting new camp!

Volleyball

Youth will be introduced to the basic skills through fun games and challenges. The forearm pass, the overhand pass, the

attack, the serve, and the dig are only some of the fundamental skills that our volleyball players will be taught this week.

Ultimate Frisbee

grades 3-6 completed

Campers will learn to play one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Instructors will teach the game of Ultimate

through skills, drills, and games. Campers will have a blast focusing on developing their game while learning the Spirit of

the Game, which is what Ultimate is all about.

Mini Olympics

grades K-2 completed

Ever wonder what it felt like to take the podium? Youth will have a chance to be Olympians in training. Not only will they

participate in a variety of Olympic sports, but they will create crafts, and learn about some Olympic rituals, history and

culture.

Skateboarding Camp

grades 3-6 completed

Kids who love to be active will love the non-stop exercise and fun planned for this week! Skaters will go to the Northside

Youth Center located in the Willie O’Ree Place for skate boarding lessons, and take advantage of all of the fun activities

in the willie O’Ree facility. Helmets are mandatory! Other safety gear is recommended and available.

Pokemon NEW!

Enjoy a full week of Pokemon FUN! If you love Pokemon then this is the camp for you. Campers will make Pokemon

themed crafts and games. Every day is different! Campers will experience a new Pokemon type each day by carrying out

activities based on that theme. Wear blue on water type day and get wet!

Jedi NEW!

Have you ever dreamed of being a Jedi? Well this is your chance! Come learn the skills involved in being a true Jedi.

Campers will learn how to use a lightsaber and practice summoning their inner Force through “Yoda Yoga”.

Love the water? Want to spend all week enjoying everything water? This is it! Learn about tides, play water games, and

even do some water experiments.

and a half of archery lessons! By week’s end, we’re confident that kids will be hitting the bull’s eye, no problem!

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

MEMBER REGISTRATION

Summer Day Camp Information will be e-mailed by March 27th, 2017 to all day campers registered in camps during the

summer of 2016, YMCA members, and current After School Youth Participants.

Registrations will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.

Completed registration forms can be mailed, e-mailed, or dropped off at the YMCA to the attention of Michele McKinley

by Wednesday, April 5th. No registrations will be accepted between April 6th and April 9th.

Due to Privacy Legislation, telephone registrations are not accepted.

YMCA Summer Day camp programs adhere to licensing requirements as outlined by the Child Daycare Facilities

Standards set by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

• All payments are due at the time of registration, either in the form of cash, cheque, Visa, MasterCard or

preauthorized payments.

• Payments can only be set up for automatic withdrawal from your bank account or off your credit card, that will

occur bi-weekly

• Payment for your first week of camp must be received at the time of registration. Payments for additional

camps are based on a schedule. *see chart below

Fredericton YMCA Summer Day Camps that operate from the Capital Winter Club and at 570 York are licensed by the

Department of Social Development, therefore we are able to bill the Day Care Assistance Program for youth registered.

Subsidy: There is limited financial assistance available for families who cannot afford the full fee. Please contact Cindy

DAY CAMPS 2017

Grade K-6 Completed

Each summer the YMCA offers a variety of day camp experiences to hundreds of children. Each week the children

participate in many physical activities such as swimming, gym games, sports, and outdoor play. Also included is a

day trip to such places as: The Bucket Club, Mactaquac Beach, Killarney Lake, Queen Square, Splash Pad, and other

special events.

The YMCA recognizes the importance of offering a variety of camps that reflect the wide diversity of interests and

abilities of our campers. Children can choose from several different camp themes offered throughout the summer, such

as, Y Summer Fun, Swim Camp, Sports Camp, and Gymnastics Camp. A large selection of specialty camps is offered

for youth in grades K-6, such as, Kreative Kids, Super Scientists, Animal Lovers, Skate Boarding, Dance, Green Thumbs,

Buskers, and more! New Camps offered this summer are: Music Movement Mania, Take the Stage, Pokemon Camp,

Wild for Water, Jedi Camp, Martial Arts, Outdoor Explorers, and Racket Sports.

YMCA Camp Counselors are:

• Well trained and have experience working with children

• Required to have their Standard Work Place First Aid/CPR-C Certification

• Required to have a completed Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Training
