Although the sport is commonly played on horses, there is a long history of playing polo on elephants, with its origins tracing back to Nepal. The Anantara Golden Triangle Resort in Chiang Saen hosts the annual King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament on its grounds. Ten teams from different countries participate in the tournament. In addition to polo, there’s a whole host of elephant-related activities such as a parade and painting. Proceeds from the event get donated to Thailand’s National Elephant Institute. 92
