The dome is structurally arranged to maximize sun
exposure to ensure maximum heat gain for the crops
throughout the year. It is tilted at an angle placing
housing units on the north side of the dome
allowing for more heat gain on the south side.
The interior of the dome follows a rigid circular
formation permitting the rotation of the irrigation system
suspended from the central structural member. The
exterior of the dome consists of a secondary grid that
follows a separate radial formation, weaving into the
main agricultural center. In this manner living units are
seamlessly integrated with the harvesting
process to ensure a smooth transition of entry.
The dome consists of clear ETFE panels fitted with
photovoltaic cells that account for the energy required to
maintain the temperature of the ground and control the
climate of the dome. Furthermore, ground source heating
is also maximized through geothermal energy and is stored
for the winter months. This allows for crop production
to be a stable form of income generation for the community.
