TOURIST ZONES 

JHIRNA 

This zone, closest to the retreat, is open throughout the year for 

wildlife safari experiences. A densely wooded and grassland 

habitat interspersed with streams, it makes for excellent bird 

viewing with a majority of the species such as the Great Hornbill 

and the Paradise Flycatcher, found in abundance here. Jhirna is 

home to an exclusive population of sloth bear, along with wild 

elephant herds and a growing tiger population. A large grove of 

Flame of the Forest adds to the drama in Jhirna. 

BIJRANI 

This is the traditional tiger and elephant sighting zone, its 

popularity being next only to Dhikala. The forests in this zone 

range from those of pure Sal on the upper reaches, to deciduous 

mixed forests in the valley, along with three major grasslands. It 

sustains a variety of herbivores, and has a wide network of jungle 

roads, making Bijrani an excellent tiger sighting territory. With a 

wide spectrum of water sources adding to the diverse 

topography, the deep interaction between all types of fauna and 

avi-fauna is here to be experienced. 

DHIKALA 

This is the largest and most varied zone in Corbett, offering the 

best opportunities for overnight stays in century-old forest rest 

houses. Dhikala contains a diverse range of habitats from the 

moist deciduous forests to the vast open grasslands, which is 

widely considered to be prime habitat for the tiger and elephant. 

With many unique habitats, including the Ramganga river and 

reservoir, this zone is a haven for a wide range of species in 

Corbett. Dhikala’s higher reaches suit theGhoral, a goat antelope, 

while the Gharial and Maggars, as well as the great Mahaseer, 

inhabit the rivers below. The hog deer, the fourth deer species 

found in Corbett, is also exclusive to Dhikala. 

PHATO 

This zone provides buffer forest to southern Corbett, comprising 

mostly of plantation forests. The region is south of the retreat and 

home to some of the area’s largest Sambhar deer populations. 

Being the tiger’s favourite, where the Sambhar goes, so follows 

the tiger! 

MARCHULA 

DURGADEVI 

This is the north-eastern zone of Corbett with an undulating 

landscape and densely wooded forests. This is the leopard's 

prime habitat while lush hilly terrain offers tremendous birding 

opportunities. The Ramganga River flows through this zone before 

entering the Dhikala forest range, and provides life to the myriad 

flora and fauna of this region. 

Marchula is a small hamlet located on the banks of the 

Ramganga River, famous for angling and wonderful bird 

watching experiences in Corbett. The predominantly hilly terrain 

is sliced by the river and hosts unique aquatic life such as 

crocodile, tortoise and the tiger of the rivers - the Golden 

Mahaseer. The antelope Ghoral, also known as the mountain 

goat, can be seen here. 

SITABANI 

The Sitabani reserve forests have been aptly christened ‘Corbett 

Landscape’ due to its close proximity to the model village set up 

by Jim Corbett - Choti Haldwani, and the area where he spent 

ample time roaming the forests. With the Kosi River providing 

nourishment to this area’s wildlife, the simple settlements and the 

Sitabani temple offer a unique rural and jungle experience in 

Corbett. 

TUMHERIA 

Tumheria is said to be Asia’s largest mud-dam with an almost 4 

km long embankment of the reservoir. It is located in the southern 

buffer forest area of Corbett. The local Vangujjar settlements 

offer a unique glimpse into their traditional lifestyle, and this 

water body attracts a tremendous amount of birdlife and is a 

haven for winter migratory birds.

THE EXPERIENCES 

JEEP SAFARI 

Duration: 3-4 hours 

A jeep safari offers you the only opportunity to traverse deep 

into Corbett National Park; through its hills, streams and dense 

jungles. The maneuverability of the Jeep enables one to cover 

large areas of the park, increasing the chance of animal 

encounters. 

ELEPHANT SAFARI 

Duration: 2-3 hours 

This is the quietest mode of exploring the forest. Not bound by 

roads, this is an opportunity to reach parts of the jungle that a 

jeep is unable to. The Mahouts, or elephant riders, and elephants 

themselves, act as the best guides to the forest.

ANGLING 

The fishing experience 

Stay at The Angler’s Shack, a tented accommodation high on the 

bank of the river Ramganga, located a little over an hour’s drive 

from Jim’s Jungle Retreat. Experience a weekend of angling for 

the Mahaseer and Goonch, or just enjoy a day of fishing and 

picnic. Fishing permits are available on prior intimation – once 

caught, the fish you bring ashore has to be returned to its habitat 

with a catch, click and release policy. Sometimes, otter families 

can be sighted along the river’s length, while the evenings bring 

deer and other wildlife to the river’s bank. 

Chotti Haldwani is the name given to the land bought by Jim 

Corbett near his home in Kaladhungi. Together with his sister 

Maggie, he developed a model Bhabhar village and settled 

about 40 families on it. The ‘Jim Corbett Heritage Trail’ managed 

by the villagers provides a unique firsthand experience of the 

work done in developing this model Kumaoni village. The trail 

ends at their home, now converted to a museum. 

INTERPRETATION WALKS 

Length: 3-10 kilometers, Duration: 1.5-3 hours 

CYCLING EXPEDITIONS 

Length: 5-15 kilometers, Duration: 1.5-3 hours 

Explore the sights, sounds and smells of the surrounding forests as 

you trek into the jungle escorted by a trained naturalist. The 

naturalist introduces you to the jungle’s ecology, ethno botany, 

animal's behavioral evidences, and the art of tracking a tiger. 

Bicycle through plantation forests of the buffer zone to nearby 

villages as a local guide informs you about the culture and 

lifestyle of the indigenous Gujjar people. Enjoy a locally cooked 

meal with the village folk. Bicycle trips down to the Tumaria 

wetlands are excellent for sighting migratory birds.

DAY 1 

Drive to Corbett 

235kms 

5-6hrs approx. 

Morning in between 6-7AM you will be picked 

up from your prescribed location in Delhi/NCR 

and then proceed to Corbett National Park. 

After a long drive you will arrive at Corbett 

National Park in afternoon. En route you may 

stop for refreshment at local restaurant (on 

your own expenses). 

Upon arrival Corbett National Park you will 

check in to hotel with all formalities and then 

you are free at leisure for your independent 

activities. 

Later in evening you have the time spent at 

resort and enjoy watching wildlife 

documentaries or relax yourself near the pool 

side. 

Stay overnight in Corbett. 

DAY 2 

Meal(s): Dinner at hotel. 

In & around Corbett 

Early morning at around 6AM you will get 

ready for game drives. At around 6:30AM you 

will reach at the forest gate for safari in the 

jungle; enjoy safari for an hour & half and then 

back to resort to enjoy breakfast. 

Corbett has been a haunt for tourists and 

wildlife lovers for a long time. Tourism activity 

is only allowed in selected areas of Corbett 

Tiger Reserve so that people get an 

opportunity to see its splendid landscape and 

the diverse wildlife. In recent years the number 

of people coming here has increased 

dramatically. Presently, every season more 

than 70,000 visitors come to the park from 

India and other countries. 

Again in afternoon you will join for a jungle 

safari.

Safari Terms & Conditions 

Right of Admission to the forest area is reserved with the respective local forest department of 

Government of India. Park may be closed without any prior notice to visitor in case of 

emergency. No refund / cancellation are permissible after confirmed booking. Bookings are 

non-transferable. Reserved seats cannot be resold / exchanged with any other visitor. Photo 

copy of the Identity proof is required to be submitted before entry into the park. Identity proof 

is must before entry into the park. Original ID proof will also be checked at the same time. Cost 

of Ticket and Accessories may change after booking and visitor will be liable to pay the 

difference at the time of entry into the park in case of any revision in rates. The ID Proof details 

like number/type etc. mention during booking should be complete & correct and same as in your 

original ID Proof, since it is mandatory to be reproduced the same ID Proof at counter for 

collection of boarding pass. Booking made by incomplete/incorrect detail of ID-Proof will be 

treated as invalid. The visitor is required to positively report for boarding Gypsy/Canter 15 

minutes prior to the scheduled departure time of any designated boarding point. There are no 

charges for Still Camera. After 90 days of safari date preferred safari zones are subject to 

availability until the drive. Under unavoidable circumstances, the entry/ excursions can be 

prohibited for the allotted zone. The Field Director/Conservator of Forests can prohibit the use 

of mobile phones by visitors inside any national park /sanctuary. No person shall be allowed to 

use spot lights inside National Parks/ Sanctuaries by anyone unless permitted in advance by the 

concerned Director/ Dy. Director/ DFO. Detailed guidelines for filming, trekking, camping and 

use of watch tower/ hides etc. will be issued by the Chief Wildlife Warden. A minimum seat 

required for any canter dispatch in the park is 16 seats, in case the seats booked are less than 

minimum required quantity, Department reserves the right to cancel the booking. In case the 

passengers are less than the capacity of the vehicle than the difference of vehicle entry free 

applicable uniformly per person will be charged extra. Any amendment to the safari 

programme after guests arrival must be made in writing otherwise revised requirements cannot 

be guaranteed. For park safari Forest Department is charging full advance payment Vehicle 

hire charges, Vehicle park entry fee, visitor’s entry fee and naturalist charges. Vehicles are 

released by Forest Department only when they receive full advance payment and all the 

advance bookings are non-refundable and non-adjustable. Where safari bookings have been 

made in advance and confirmed to you in writing, a cancellation/amendment fee equal to 

100% of the visitor entry fees + vehicle entry fees + vehicle hire charges + naturalist fees will 

be charged for any cancellation or amendment to the safari programme, according to the 

vehicle request. Where safari bookings have not been confirmed as booked in writing to you, no 

cancellation/amendment fee will be charged for any cancellation or amendment to the safari 

programme. If Visitors arrive late and miss their 1st safari a cancellation fee equal to 100% of 

the visitors entry fees + vehicle entry fees + vehicle hire charges + naturalist fees will be 

charged. If visitors refuse to go on safari at the same time a cancellation fee equal to 100% of 

the visitors entry fees + vehicle entry fees + vehicle hire charges + naturalist fees will be 

charged. Where some members of a group of visitors refuse to go on a safari at the same time 

a fee equal to 100% of the full group No. of visitor entry fees + vehicle entry fees + the full 

group No. of seat charges + naturalist fees will be charged. Where canters are not running 

(particularly during the latter part of the season) a request for canter seat drives may not be 

available. We reserve the right to provide safaris by jeep and will charge jeep rates 

accordingly. Park may be closed without any prior notice to visitor. All vehicles will remain 

subject to availability until the drive. Terms and Conditions are subject to change, may append 

or amend without prior notice or information due to various Govt. Policies. Rates are subject to 

change in case of change in Validity Periods, Rate Seasons, Contracted periods, Applicable laws 

or government policies.

We will only reimburse according to our cancellation

valid government approved photo identity card (such as Passport) 

with you all the times. It is mandatory to produce your documents 

at the hotel during check-in; hotel reserves the right to accept or 

refuse your booking without producing the same. Check-in/out 

time of hotel is 1400/1200 hours local time respectively. All 

transfers and sightseeing are subject to variations depending on 

local traffic flow, weather or actual road conditions. Offered 

prices are co-related to circumstance that is within our control. In 

case of situation which is beyond our control (such as road 

blockade due to strike or agitation, earthquake, natural calamity, 

sickness evacuation, delay or cancellation of flight, act of god, 

force of nature etc.) and due to the same if there occurs a 

deviation or change of travel plan that leads to additional cost 

then you must have to bear for those extra cost. On every single
