review by Levvy Carriker and Juli Ragsdale. Page 28-29.

KG: Brandon Jameson cast my son, Fynnton in the film and when he

found out a bit about me, he basically insisted that i be the Art Director

for the film. I was hesitant, only because of my crazy schedule and not

wanting to commit to something I could not win at, but I made it work

within my other projects and have to say that it was one of the most fascinating

and rewarding experiences of my life. I truly can not wait to share

my work in this film with the world when it premiers at the La Jolla Film

Festival in July!

THE

KENN GRAY

Few people can move into the The Coachella Valley and create

a swirl of activity from fashion to television to charity. Don’t

blink because Kenn Gray is on the move. Always energetic

and friendly to everyone. His energy and aura is strong and

smart much like his fashions. The word colorful might come

to mind when you think of him. So get ready for a show like

none other. LIVE Magazine is so happy and pleased to announce

our association with Kenn as a new columnist.

LC: You starred and hosted “Shades of Kenn Gray’. What was that

show about?

KG: That show was a hoot! It was basically a full on design show about

projects I had worked on in my interior design firm, www.kenngrayhome.

com. Like I said before, I LOVE making TV, especially when it relates to

interior design or fashion.

LC: Ok, now on to your interior design business, Kenn Gray Home.

When did you find your interests in interior home design?

KG: Well, I went to college for Fashion Design at Otis/Parsons in Los Angeles,

however, I never did Fashion Design as a career. While in college,

I started my own company called Paint the Town, which was a decorative

painting company and that quickly morphed into what is now my interior

design firm.

Levvy: Wow Kenn, where should I start? Your television shows are

interesting to me because of all the variables that go into production. Tell

us a little about Travel Spies?

Kenn: Oh goodness...that was a minute ago! That was one of the first

TV shows I starred on. This one I hosted and got to travel all over and

review (undercover) hotel properties from a design perspective. Honestly,

this experience wet my whistle for making TV and I have been hooked

every since!

LC: More recently you were Art Director for a film named Pearl: A Fashion

Film by famed film maker Brandon Jameson. How did that come

about and what did you learn on that experience?

Sarah Strader

Gosh, it seems like a lifetime ago that I started making houses into

homes! I am excited to have some pretty major launches coming up this

year, one of which is a new line of luxury hand-painted textiles by Sarah

Strader! Just wait until you see how we launch this!

LC: What was or is your favorite design job? Where was this and what

was the style?

KG: I have had so many favorites, and to be clear, the style doesn’t determine

my happiness with a project as much as the clients I am working

with. I love making my clients dreams happen and to see them happy

makes me happy...very happy.

LC: This past year you became involved with Style Fashion Week. And

boy did you get involved! Tell us about Style Fashion Week.

KG: Again, this has been the start of something incredible for me. I

really did not need another career, lol, but could not say no to this opportunity.

I am the Art & Design Director for Style Fashion Week, globally.

Lee and Veronica Kerzner started www.stylefashionweek.com many

years ago and have worked tirelessly to build the brand with a mission

of supporting and giving a platform to the emerging as well as seasoned

artists and designers. This fits so closely with my own personal mission

that I just HAD to be a part of it! We produce fashion week events twice

a year in many markets across the globe and my job is to curate the Art &

Design Marketplace at these events. However, my job extends to many

other aspects of the production from sponsorship and vendor procurement,

to VIP and celebrity relations and red carpet commentary/hosting.

Honestly, this organization tics all of my boxes from design to fashion

to PR and Marketing...i could not be happier to be building an amazing

brand with these folks that benefits so many talented people!

LC: What played a part in moving to Palm Springs?

KG: My wife, Bunny Jo and our son Fynnton decided to leave Kentucky

and head out west...a very Beverly Hillbillies sort of story. Lol We have

been thrilled with our decision and look forward to a lifetime of more wonderful

memories here in the desert! I will say that our decision was based

in large part to our son, Fynnton’s, clear talent and need to be closer to

Los Angeles.

LC: I saved the best part for last. How and where did you meet your

beautiful wife, Bunny Jo?

KG: Well, she will tell the story a bit differently, but we met at a very nice

restaurant in Paducah KY just after I moved there from Boston and, even

though I WAS NOT looking to get into any sort of relationship, this was an

undeniable moment of knowing on both our parts. You just know when

you find your ‘person’ and we are each other's ‘person’ without a doubt.

She completes me (which i know sounds so cheesy and cliche) but it is

true.

LC: Then family happens and your

son is born. Fynnton is an amazing

young man. I think he has wonderful

parents! Fynnton is an actor and

model. What is his career shaping

up to be?

9

9

KG: You are very kind Levvy, as

have most of the people we have

met here have been. And you are

right, Fynnton is amazing. Do

Bunny Jo and I take credit for this?

A bit, well, maybe a lot, but he is a

special child with gifts beyond most

people’s comprehension and we feel

that we are just here to guide him

and the people he touches through

the experience with grace and love.

Fynnton has been killing it since we

arrived in California, doing movies,

music videos for the likes of Michael

Buble, recording songs with Rick

Springfield, commercials for Disney,

Toyota, runway and print work and

the list goes on and on. We are

keeping the road hot between here

and Los Angeles for sure! He loves

it and we are here to support him!

He has such a wonderful following of

fans and supporters and most enjoy

his posts on instagram

@officialfynnstagram

LC: What advice would you give to

an up and coming designer?

KG: Take business courses...as

many as you can! It took me a long

time to realize the importance of

this, having taken all design related

courses throughout my college

career, i didn’t see the need in

business but obviously I was not in

tune with the real world at that time.

It took me a lot longer to become

a success because I didn’t have a

good business foundation. I innately

know so many things about

business but having a true business

education would have jump started

me and carried me along in a much

more profitable way and with a lot

less headache and time!

Bunny Jo Gray

LC: Thank you for your time Kenn.

You are a fascinating individual with

so many talents. Palm Springs is

happy you are with us! It’s a match!

“A well-designed life is a life that is generative—it is

constantly creative, productive, changing, evolving,

and there is always the possibility of surprise. You

get out of it more than you put in. There is a lot more

than 'lather, rinse, repeat' in a well-designed life.” -

William Burnett

I am many things to many people, but the common thread is that I am a

designer. Yes, I am an interior designer. Yes, I am creating moments in the

fashion and art worlds. But I look at everything I am involved in and do as

pieces to the puzzle of the life that I am designing for myself and my family.

Each day for all of us is an opportunity. Actually, a series of opportunities.

We make choices about what to include in our days and about who and

what to bring into our lives. These choices matter. Design your life to be

what makes you feel fulfilled, happy and engaged. In this series of articles

I will be highlighting some of the goings on that are puzzle pieces in my

own life and in the lives of some other cool cats in the Valley, in the hopes

of inspiring and unifying each of you into a well designed life and community.

Be a part of your community's giving back efforts. The Coachella Valley

has hundreds of non-profits and charitable opportunities! Get involved!

by Levvy Carriker and Juli Ragsdale

We have visited many studios mostly as guests. Now to have a direct relationship

with Warner Bro.'s and having access to interviews, new movie

trailors, high rez photos is interesting and an adventure. We got the link

to the trailor CHiPs and excitedly stared at the monitor until the first frame

came up. Anticipating a run of laughter considering their hilarious poster.

When Dax Shepard takes 'charge' as Jon Baker he immediatley raises

a ruckus and we know we are in for troubled waters without a paddle or

an exit plan. But the movie pulls you in rather quickly with it's raunchy

schemes. It is a not like it is over the top humor or anything! You laugh till

you hurt and it is a comic release from today's pressures. We vote if you

can laugh at silliness and adverture mixed together you really should go

see this movie.

Dax Shepard (“Hit & Run,” TV’s “Parenthood”) and Michael Peña (“Ant-

Man”) star in the action comedy “CHIPS,” directed by Shepard from his

own script.

(L-R) DAX SHEPARD as Jon, MICHAEL PEÑA as Ponch and ROSA

SALAZAR as Ava Perez in Warner Bros. Pictures' action comedy

"CHIPS," a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

Jon Baker (Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Peña) have just

joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles, but for very

different reasons. Baker is a beaten-up former pro motorbiker trying to

put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a cocky undercover

Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be

an inside job—inside the CHP.

The inexperienced rookie and the hardened pro are teamed together, but

clash more than click, so kick-starting a real partnership is easier said

than done. But with Baker’s unique bike skills and Ponch’s street savvy it

might just work…if they don’t drive each other crazy first.

“CHIPS” also stars Rosa Salazar (“Insurgent”), Adam Brody (“Think Like a Man

Too”), Kristen Bell (“Bad Moms”), and Vincent D’Onofrio (“Jurassic World”).

The film was produced by Andrew Panay (“Earth to Echo,” “Wedding

Crashers”), who previously produced Shepard’s “Hit & Run,” and Ravi

Mehta (“Get Hard”), and is based on the popular television series created

by Rick Rosner. Robert J. Dohrmann, Nate Tuck, Rick Rosner, Michael

Peña and Dax Shepard served as executive producers.

Collaborating behind the scenes were director of photography Mitchell

Amundsen (“Ride Along 2”), production designer Maher Ahmad (“Hangover

3”), editor Dan Lebental (“Ant-Man”), costume designer Diane

Crooke (TV’s “Parenthood”) and composer Fil Eisler (“Empire”).

MICHAEL PEÑA AS PONCH, RICHARD T. JONES AS PARISH

AND JESS ROWLAND AS RATHBUN

A Warner Bros. Pictures presentation, an Andrew Panay Production,

“CHIPS” will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros.

Entertainment company.

DESERT DENTAL

ALTERNATIVES

Bruno Lemay, DMD

dexterity, and in general they tend to eat more sweets more often, and not brush

as often.

There is also another component that needs to be explained here. In the mouth

there are several types of bacteria. Some are responsible for gum disease and

some are responsible for decay. Some people may have the best hygiene

and still have gum disease and some who have the worst hygiene may not

suffer from gum disease at all. This is because they do not have the bacteria

responsible for gum disease. Same thing for decay. Some people will be more

susceptible to decay then others even if they eat just a little sugar and have

decent dental hygiene. That is because they have that kind of bacteria in their

mouth in a higher rate then another person. But that is not a reasonable excuse.

More brushing and plaque control with a topical fluoride application daily,

preferably with a special personal tray made at the dental office will help.

Very rarely a person will suffer from gum disease and a high rate of decay. It is

generally one or the other. If someone has a high rate of decay, in general they will

not suffer from gum disease like bone loss, periodontal pockets and tooth mobility.

It is a proven fact though, that the better the dental hygiene you have and the

better your diet is in terms of limiting sugar intake, the healthier your gums and

teeth will be.

So, it is not true that decay affect only kids. As long as you have one tooth in

your mouth you are subject to get decay if you leave dental plaque on it and eat

sugar!--

Do you think that dental cavities are problems only for

children?

The best way to prevent that is to have good dental hygiene at home and

brushing after any sugar intake, and to visit your dentist 2 to 3 times a year.

Dr. Bruno Lemay

It is a general belief that cavities are for kids only. But in fact,

cavities affect all ages!

The reason why cavities are more prevalent in children is

mainly the fact that they tend to eat more sugar and have

poor hygiene habits. However, when looking at the cause of

decay, which is basically plaque with the presence of sugar,

it is easy to understand that cavities can happen at any age

even if your mouth is full of crowns.

Of course there are some people who have teeth that are

softer then others and are easier to decay but that affects

only 1% of the population. Basically any diet rich in sugar

will increase your chance of decay. Soft drinks, candies and

anything sweet will have a potency to create decay in the

presence of dental plaque. Of course in order to create

decay there has to be the bacteria that will transfer the sugar

into acid to decalcify the tooth. It is called dental plaque and

it forms very quick after eating. The better hygiene a person

has, the less they will have decay. It takes both sugar and

plaque to decay a tooth. The more you brush and floss, the

more plaque removed and the less risk of decay.

Additionally, elderly patients also tend to have more decay.

It is more obvious with elderly patients who are loosing their

LIVE Magazine

by Levvy Carriker and Juli Ragsdale

Remember the original King Kong? Well this film is not like the original

in so many ways. Updated movies need to be more modern in style but

also in story. A military squadron is sent to the island to map it. Unfortunately

they need to drop equipment that is meant to drill in to the earth

and shake it so they can measure distances and map the island with this

new technology.

Kong lives on this island in the South Pacific and he is King of the island.

Kong keeps to himself mostly. What lies beneath the earth is what you better

be worried about. The scientist said he spent 30 years to prove Monsters

exist. You don't go in someone's house unless your picking a fight!

TOM HIDDLESTON as James Conrad in Warner Bros. Pictures', Legendary

Pictures' and Tencent Pictures' action adventure "KONG: SKULL

ISLAND," a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

Reptilian monsters get stirred up like spaghetti with an egg beater. The

are everywhere coming from underground to reak havoc on the military.

When the guys are getting beat up pretty bad they learn that they have a

friend. He name is KING KONG.

The producers of Godzilla reimagine the origins of one the most powerful

monster myths of all in “Kong: Skull Island,” from Warner Bros. Pictures,

Legendary Pictures and Tencent Pictures. This compelling, original adventure

from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (“The Kings of Summer”) tells

the story of a diverse team of scientists, soldiers and adventurers uniting

to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific, as dangerous as it

is beautiful. Cut off from everything they know, the team ventures into the

domain of the mighty Kong, igniting the ultimate battle between man and

nature. As their mission of discovery becomes one of survival, they must

fight to escape a primal Eden in which humanity does not belong.

“Kong: Skull Island” stars Tom Hiddleston (“The Avengers,” “Thor: The

Dark World”), Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson (“Pulp Fiction,” “Avengers:

Age of Ultron”), John Goodman (“Transformers: Age of Extinction,”

“Argo”), Oscar winner Brie Larson (“Room,” “Trainwreck”), Jing Tian (“Police

Story: Lockdown”), Toby Kebbell (“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”),

John Ortiz (“Steve Jobs”), Corey Hawkins (“Straight Outta Compton”),

Jason Mitchell (“Straight Outta Compton”), Shea Whigham (“The Wolf of

Wall Street”), Thomas Mann (“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”), with Terry

Notary (“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”) and Oscar nominee John C.

Reilly (“Chicago,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”).

Vogt-Roberts directed the film from a screenplay by Dan Gilroy and

Max Borenstein and Derek Connolly, story by John Gatins. “Kong:

Skull Island” is produced by Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni

and Alex Garcia, with Eric McLeod and Edward Cheng serving as

executive producers.

The creative behind-the-scenes team included director of photography

Larry Fong (“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”), production

designer Stefan Dechant (supervising art director “True Grit,”

“Avatar”), Oscar-nominated editor Richard Pearson (“United 93,”

“The Bourne Supremacy”) costume designer Mary Vogt (the “Men

in Black” films) and composer Henry Jackman (“Captain America:

Civil War”). The team also included Oscar-winning makeup supervisor

Bill Corso (“Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate

Events,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) and supervising stunt

coordinator George Cottle (“Interstellar,” “The Dark Knight Rises”).

The legendary Kong was brought to life at a whole new scale

by Industrial Light & Magic, with two-time Oscar winner Stephen

Rosenbaum (“Avatar,” “Forrest Gump”) serving as senior visual

effects supervisor, and Oscar-nominee Jeff White (“The Avengers”)

as visual effects supervisor.

TORI SCOTT

TORI SCOTT IN “THIRSTY”

Wednesday, April 19, 2017 8pm

Hailed as one of Time Out New York’s Top 10 Cabaret Artists, belter and

bad decision expert Tori Scott, makes her San Diego debut with her

show, Thirsty!, a shameless musical journey of slurred autobiographical

stories and songs written by other people. Join this “soul-baring singer

and sharp comedian” (Huffington Post) in a celebration of poor life choices

and an unconditional love of vodka. The thirst is real, the vocals are

legit, and the stories are, tragically, all true.

“It’s the sound of someone who’s not afraid to show you just how human

she is, while her super-human pipes blow you away” – Broadwayworld.com

Tori Scott is a New York-based singer and comedian. She was recently

nicknamed “the Bette Midler of the new millennium” by Provincetown

Magazine and has performed her solo shows at Joe’s Pub at the Public

Theater, 54 Below, and every gay bar on the Eastern Seaboard.

On stage, she was recently seen performing alongside Cheyenne Jackson

at the Town Hall in Provincetown MA, Alice Ripley in a concert reading

of a new musical The Girl with Polka Dot Eyes, and performing opposite

Linda Lavin, Leslie Uggams and Stephanie J. Block in the Symphony

Space tribute to Sheldon Harnick and Fiddler on the Roof. On television,

she’s counted to 20 as a singing garbage woman on Sesame Street and

dubbed the vocals of a singing hooker on HBO’s Cathouse: The Musical.

She is a graduate of The Boston Conservatory.

Frenchie Davis

FRENCHIE DAVIS IN

“THE FRENCHIE DAVIS EXPERIENCE”

Thursday, April 20, 2017 8pm

Powerhouse performer Frenchie Davis returns to MA4

to share her beautiful and dynamic vocal stylings with

us. She’s known for her TV performances on Season

2 of American Idol and as a member of Team Christina

on Season 1 of The Voice, her stage performances in

Dreamgirls, Mahalia: A Gospel Musical, Ain’t Misbehavin’,

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella (Enchanted Edition)

and on Broadway in RENT.

Audiences at MA4 were thrilled to see and hear Frenchie

up close and personal. Her shows receive rave reviews

and continue to sell out to audiences who are amazed by

her unique singing voice and raw wit.

Songbird Frenchie Davis was first introduced to the world as a fan-favorite

on the second season of the hit television show, American Idol. Since

then, she has continued to wow audiences with her unique and versatile

talent. She has performed in numerous Broadway shows, including

RENT; Cinderella Enchanted, Dreamgirls; and Ain’t Misbehavin’, which

earned her a Grammy nomination.

Her television credits include being a top-five finalist on the first season

of NBC’s The Voice; a guest-starring role on the OWN Network’s Wanda

Sykes Presents: Herlarious; and voice-over work for the hit Nickelodeon

cartoon, Wonder Pets.

Earlier this year, Frenchie began working on her debut album, Finally…

Frenchie, and a few months ago she broke the internet with a video of

her beautifully soulful rendition of Fetty Wap’s hip-hop classic, “Trap

Queen,” which is the newest addition to the repertoire in her “popcabaret”

show, The Frenchie Davis Experience, which she recently

performed to a sold-out crowd at The Apollo Theater’s Women Of The

World Music Festival. Frenchie recently completed filming the movie

Dead 7 for the SyFy Channel.

These days you can catch her traveling the world and continuing to wow

audiences with her dynamic stage presence and flawless vocals.

RED VELVET

(Opening Night: March 30)

Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage, Old Globe Theatre

Conrad Prebys Theatre Center

By Lolita Chakrabarti

Directed by Stafford Arima

This stirring drama transports audiences to the turbulent backstage world of London’s

Theatre Royal in the early 1800s. Edmund Kean, the greatest actor of his generation,

can’t go on tonight as Othello, and his company is in disarray. A young American actor

named Ira Aldridge arrives to step into the role—but no black man has ever played

Othello on the English stage. His groundbreaking performance upends stage tradition

and changes the lives of everyone involved. Lolita Chakrabarti’s multi-award-winning

play uncovers the fascinating true story of a pivotal figure in theatre history. In-demand

director Stafford Arima (Allegiance) returns to The Old Globe with a stunningly theatrical

production of a play that the London Telegraph called “informative, entertaining,

and thought-provoking.”
