REPORT TO DONORS
2016

FROM THE PRESIDENT
The 2016 year has provided substantial evidence of the high quality that has
come to characterize programs at Heritage, and much of that quality is due to
support from the many donors and foundations who are friends of the university.
2016 Board
of Directors
The results of your commitment to Heritage University and our students can be
seen throughout all academic programs and the university campus. In health
sciences, for example, the Physician Assistant program graduated its first
cohort, nearly every one of whom went directly into the workforce, most working
in rural and underserved communities. The Master of Arts in Medical Sciences
program has grown from an initial cohort of just five students to 50 annually,
almost all of whom graduate and enter into the professional program of their
choice. The nursing program received approval to expand to 24 students each
year and, like the master’s degree programs, receives far more applications for
admission than there are openings.
Much of the strength of these three programs, as is the case of all of our
academic programs, lies in the quality of the rich partnerships Heritage
University enjoys with other institutions of higher learning. Heritage works
closely with partners such as Pacific Northwest University of Medical Sciences
to build programs that are rigorous and relevant to the fields in which our
students will enter. We value collaborations with other universities such as the
Washington State University, whose pharmacy school reserves spots for qualified
Heritage grads, and the University of Washington, who’s Latino Center for
Health has made Heritage its only academic partner.
The success of the health sciences is mirrored throughout all of Heritage’s
academic programs. Business students continue to impress on a national scale
through their work in Enactus. The College of Education continues to grow
in quality and recognition for preparing teachers with expertise in content as
well as culturally sensitive pedagogy and for preparing future principals who
are instructional leaders not simply administrators. Graduating seniors in
mathematics, social work, and the humanities enjoy admission into prestigious
master’s degree and even Ph.D. programs nationwide.
Very little of this would have happened without the remarkable support from
people like you who generously fund scholarships for students otherwise unable
to afford the university and from supporters who have helped give this campus
some first-rate facilities in the past decade. Kay and I feel that one of our
great joys the last seven years has come from knowing you, our supporters, and
connecting you with the wonderful students who are taking Heritage degrees out
to lives of success and out to improve the quality of life here in Washington.
