Out in America reveals top five
online dating tips on ‘O&A Today’
Staff Reports
Out in America Cities Network sales
and marketing associate Michael Dutcher
revealed five tips for online dating in an
interview with Tennessee’s “Out & About
Newspaper” and CBS NewsChannel 5’s
GLBT news program, “Out & About
Today.”
Dutcher’s interview may also be seen
online at Out & About Today’s Web site,
Out in America Cities Network is the
largest city-based GLBT online network in
the United States aimed at informing,
entertaining and uniting the global GLBT
community. For anyone interested in
online dating Dutcher recommended:
1. Know what Internet dating is. Online
personals and Internet dating are nothing
more than a different type of introduction.
It should be just a piece of your overall
social plan. Be good to yourself and love
will follow. Make it fun or don’t do it.
2. Know what you want. Have a good
idea what you like in a partner in terms of
character, heart, compatibility and personality.
Don’t be entirely focused on what
you don’t want; too much negativity can
make dating feel like a job.
3. Know what you don’t want. Weed
out the losers or potentially dangerous
people. Trust your intuition. Some clues of
strange behavior may include too many e-
mails too soon, sexually explicit language
or too many hidden secrets or contradictions
(what a married person might do to
cover up their home life, for example).
4. Don’t scare them away. A lot of freaks
are out there. Don’t appear desperate or
needy by asking too many questions or
being too much of a burden too soon.
5. Be Safe. Don’t give out your personal
information. Meet in a public place first
and tell a friend where you will be. Bring a
cell phone with you. Nothing is risk free.
Stay alert, make good choices and always
know that things aren’t always what they
seem.
“No matter where you meet a person
you’re taking a chance,” Dutcher said. “If
you have a hard time meeting people, this
is the perfect tool to do that. It allows you
the opportunity to learn a lot about a person
before you actually make that first
meeting with them.”
