MICHAEL H. SHUMAN:
THE LOCAL ECONOMY
SOLUTION
2:30 PM > PRAIRIE THEATRE EXCHANGE - PORTAGE PLACE > $10/$15
Spur asks in what conditions are local economies better at creating jobs and prosperity than
transnational corporations? After a decades-long focus on globalization, and in a world where
the nature of work has changed so dramatically, can a focus on building local resilience create
positive change, both for individuals and for communities?
Renowned American thinker Michael Shuman proposes that governments should nurture a new
generation of self-financing “pollinator businesses,” to create jobs and the conditions for future
prosperity.
