Power up with RADSoK ® modules
Amphenol integrated the RADSOK ® technology in the C146 Series. A new module for the C146 modular system
is now available. The new two pole module can transmit current up to 150A at 1000V per contacts. With the crimp
termination RADSOK ® contacts, these modules offer secure termination also in vibration environments. The male
modules and contacts are designed in a way that also the pins can be touch proof, so that they can be also used
when power is on the pin side of the connector.
The modules use two spaces in the modular frames and can be combined i.e. with 10 pole signal modules or
RJ45 modules. Like that, the user has a very high flexibility to create his own hybrid high power connector.
The frames also fit into our new IP67 housings, corrosion resistant housings or EMC housings, what makes this
system very interesting for applications in harsh environment like windpower, railways and others. An addition
module with PE contact is in preparation.
Innovative Interconnect technologies for Pv inverter
The new C16-L plastic circular connector by
Amphenol Tuchel Electronics is an ideal solution
for all 3phase PV inverter AC interfaces up to
50A/600V. The connector is IP65 rated and uV
resistant to meet outdoor requirements.
A new feature is the secured locking mechanism
which avoids easy opening of the connection
(DIN VDE 0126-3). For a secure and fast field
assembly process the connector features
screw contacts suitable for wire sizes up to
6mm², bigger sizes up to 10mm² on request.
Another important advantage of the C16-L is it`s
compact size with a diameter of approximately
43mm only! In additional to this new 4+PE pin
configuration Amphenol Tuchel Electronics
plans to launch an even more compact 2+PE
version for 1phase PV inverter in 2011.
Amphenol also offers a comprehensive product
range on IP67 protected communication
interfaces for PV inverter like RJ45, USB and
D-Sub. The RADSOK ® high-current contact
technology can be used to connect power
electronics pluggable inside the inverter.
T-blocks and cable clands are complementing
the broadest interconnect portfolio for PV
inverter in the industry.
PE connection in Electrical control cabinets
With the new ground|mate Series, Amphenol is
able to replace the now used PE Connections,
made up of ring terminals in electrical cabinets,
with pluggable contacts. By using the well
known and field proven RADSOK ® technology in
combination with the click|fit locking device, a
high current carrying capacity arises together
with a safe and reliable locking mechanism.
Owing to different locking parameters, it is
possible to connect ground|mate contacts with
pins or threads. Even by using ground|mate on
threads, the outstanding attributes of RADSOK ®
contacts will be mostly uninfluenced.
harsh Environment housings – Push the limits
The new special corrosion resistant housings
from Amphenol offer excellent corrosion
resistance also in extreme environments.
Especially the problem of crevice corrosion
between the different spare parts like levers, die
casts and fixing parts of the housings, caused by
electrochemical reactions, is addressed.
Tests have proven, that housings can withstand
salt mist according to IEC 60512-11-6:2002 more
than 500 hours. This exceeds the parameters
of the so far available parts on the market by
far, as those parts often showed the mentioned
problems.
These new housings are dedicated especially
to applications, where salt mist is a challenge
for the components. They fit very well into
applications like windpower, railways, cranes and
any other application outdoor.
the eco|mate circular connector Program
from Amphenol-tuchel Electronics
The demands upon connectors being used for
industrial application call for a rugged design, an
appropriate protective category (min. IP 65), an
integrated cable retention, the ability to process
differing cable diameters and wire gauges, as
well as the possibility of screening over any
residual frequencies.
Further needs of the Operator require efficient
processing of the cable and receptacle
connectors. Therefore, few individual parts and
an exceptional termination are needed.
The Amphenol-Tuchel eco|matem product
range offers a program that completely fulfils any
requirement specifications.
Energy Applications
As a leading supplier of passive components, KOA offers a broad portfolio
of products and technical solutions to fulfil the requirements of alternative
energy applications.
Apart from standard resistors, KOA recommends special SMD parts
which are resistant against pulses (SG73-series), suitable for higher
voltages (HV73), have wide terminals for high reliability joints (WK73)
or are anti-sulfuration parts (RT-types) for usage in harsh environment.
Low ohmic current sensing resistors (SL, TLR, PS) are used in the
whole Smart Grid, in each Smart Meter as well as in Solar Inverters and
Wind Energy Inverters. Also through hole resistors (CW, PCF, B_R) are
needed for Rush Current Limiting, as Balance Resistors for capacitors
FcI coNNEctoRS FoR DEmANDING APPlIcAtIoNS
In today’s environment, where electronics are everywhere, electronic equipment must operate under severe environmental,
mechanical and electrical conditions, as well as tough regulatory conditions and high consumer expectations. This poses
extreme challenges to the design and manufacture of that equipment. Additionally, the equipment must withstand frequent
use over many years both by experts and less experienced users. All of this has an impact on the design of components
such as connectors. At FCI we truly understand this.
the FcI Advantage
FCI connectors for demanding applications are designed to offer an
advantage that will make a difference to you.
Modular systems suited for many applications offer an opportunity to
reduce component engineering costs. Hermaphroditic “mates to itself”
connector systems reduce supply chain and inventory costs. Surface
mount and reflow process compatible PCB connectors help reduce
manufacturing costs. Reliable contact systems providing as many as
100,000 mating cycles extend the use of product by years, thus eliminating
the cost of redesigns or upgrades and providing a future-proof platform.
high Speed charge/Discharge Snap-in capacitor
Normally, when rapidly charging and discharging a capacitor continuously,
it may fail because of either the capacitance decrease and/or safety vent
operation due to the internal pressure rise or because an inner short
mode. Reason for this is a physiochemical reason inside of the capacitor.
Nichicon introduced the QS-Series before, which uses a special foil as
well as a special winding method to eliminate the phenomenon.
Nichicon is now able to offer this special foil and winding on option to all
its Snap-in series and with it a very effective and efficient modification for
applications where rapid charge – and discharge cycles occur, mostly in
all kind of inverter like for Solar market, welding machines, etc.
Below continuous stress test result shows the difference in the
performance and effectiveness of the new foil technology used:
• 450V capacitor, DC voltage applied: 350V, frequency: 50Hz, current 3xIr
@ 50Hz, peak voltage ~420V, 60°C
• Standard component: short mode after ~4 hours/~700,000 cycles
EvercAP ®
The Electric Double Layer Capacitor (EDLC) is a charge storage device
able to replace batteries and accumulators.
The charge and discharge of EDLC is mainly a physical reaction, therefore
it has longer cycle life compared to batteries, which use chemical reaction,
due to the low degradation of the electrode and electrolyte.
Typically EDLCs are used for example in Storage devices for regenerative
energy (such as solar energy storage banks), Power supply back-ups (for
example in smart meter), Voltage SAG compensation systems, UPS...
Nichicon offers 5 Series in this technology:
• uM – Radial leaded type 2.7V 0.47F to 47F
• uW – Downsized radial leaded type 2.7V 1F to 82F
• JC – Snap-in terminal type 2.5V 15F to 150F
• JD – Screw terminal high energy density type 2.5V 600F to 4000F
• JL – Screw terminal high power density type 2.5V 400F to 2600F
The advantage clearly on hand versus batteries is the environmental
friendliness, no maintenance costs and the capability of over a million
charge/discharge cycles.
cS-/cy-Series
Widely used in smart meters and ballasts; CS and CY-Series offer an
endurance of 8.000 to 10.000h and high ripple capability, important for the
maintenances friendliness and the functionality in metering.
