Distant Whispers Adrian Erik McCray The journeys of African-Americans crisscrosses with the lives of other descendants of Africa in these novellas of romance, suspense, trials and triumphs. The results are funny, unpredictable and sometimes embarrassing as African-American culture encounters the cultures of other African Diasporas in all of their richness, color, sounds and sometimes “gotcha” complications.
Novella 1 Ich Bin Geechee – German Geechee Mikell, a mixed-race Afro-German art teacher, encounters the exotic world of the South Carolina Geechees as he travels to America in search his African-American G.I. father. He is intoxicated by the mahogany skin and doe-like eyes of the beautiful Toni whose autistic son is intrigued by the European visitor. Toni’s father, whose wife died in a church fire set by neo-Nazi racists, still harbors his rage and takes it out against Mikell. Ich Bin Geechee is a tale of redemption and finding “kin”. Novella 2 Catch Yuh Tail Denmark Alexander, a talented African-American business analyst is assigned to a project on the Caribbean island of Trinidad and walks into the middle of a race war. It doesn’t help that his boss, the attractive Afro-Trinidadian, Petra Eddington, doesn’t seem to know which side she belongs on. As Denmark navigates the racial minefields in this diverse island nation, he must learn the social language so that he can know who is enemy and who is friend.
