ASTON MATTHEWS case study- Lakeside Retreat

Interior designer Egon Walesch

transformed a dated holiday cottage

in Ireland into a relaxing and serene

Making the most of the surrounding

woodland views he introduced a pleasing

palette of orange and teal throughout, set

against simple white walls.

The renovation took less than nine months despite the fine attention to detail. As well as choosing

new furniture for the cottage Egon up-cycled furnishings found in auctions to create the relaxed

mid-century modern look.

In the main bathroom a handsome Rimini cast iron bath has been set on wood sleepers, the perfect

place to lie back and take in the relaxing view through the trees. A Tradition bath/shower mixer is

plumbed to the wall and chrome Tradition taps are also fitted above the simple Box counter-top

basin which Egon has supported on a vintage cabinet.

Sliding doors in the living room open onto a spacious deck allowing this space to link with the

surrounding woodland, while the natural palette of green and orange works in harmony with the

rural setting.

For the bathrooms Egon turned

to Aston Matthews, choosing an

un-lacquered brass finish for the

Tradition taps and shower so that

they would develop a patina over

time, in keeping with the welcoming,

rustic feel of the property.

The Rimini bath is the perfect fit

under the picture window of the

master bathroom.

Aston Matthews cast iron baths are

supplied with a primed finish so you

are able to paint them at home to

exactly match your décor.
