Former BOD President David Steinman’s
Fire House Legacy Lives On
More than 50 business colleagues, friends and residents turned
out to honor the memory of former SCSCAI Board President
David Steinman on April 26 as Las Vegas City Councilman
Stavros Anthony dedicated Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Station
107’s community room to one of Sun City’s favorite sons.
Pointing to guests gathered around the engine bay, Councilman
Anthony talked about how during the station’s construction,
David could often be found at the site.
“I believe he was out here every single day to make sure
the station was done to his speci cations and that it was
done correctly,” he said. “And this is what we ended up with
– a beautiful re house.”
When thinking about how he could best honor his friend
in Sun City, Councilman Anthony said that the idea of naming
the station’s community room came to mind.
e idea was one of several proposed to the city following
David’s passing in January.
One by one, several speakers took to the podium recalling
memories of their dear friend, including Las Vegas City
Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Fire
Chief William McDonald and Mountain View Presbyterian
Church Pastor David W. Dendy.
BOD President Joe O’Connell shared a poignant memory
of how he and David attended the grand opening of
Palm Valley’s 9th hole, which had to be redesigned following
the re station’s ground breaking.
“David was the rst to drive off the 9th tee and I was
fortunately the second,” Joe said.
“David was a very good friend of mine. He’s the main reason
I’m on the Board today and the No. 1 reason why I got
involved. He loved his family and his beautiful wife, whom
he talked about all the time.”
With that, Councilman Anthony welcomed David’s wife,
Madeleine to the podium for the last word.
“ ank you all for coming today,” she said. “ ank you for
honoring my husband.”
