Big Brothers Big Sister Gets a Boost
from Merchants Bank
Merchants Bank provided the Big Brothers Big
Sisters Lehigh Valley organization with a $1,000
donation to help in their mission of supporting
children facing adversity to succeed and thrive in life.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has supported children for more than 100
years through partnership and mentoring with parents/guardians,
volunteers, and others in the community. Marlene Werkheiser, AVP/
Treasury Operations Manager at Merchants Bank, has been personally
involved as a Big Sister and served BBBS the organization in other ways
for over 15 years. Her “little sister,” now having a personal family-like
relationship with Marlene, is graduating college this year with a BS in
Communications Media from IUP.
“My decision to pick up the phone and volunteer a few hours a week
changed my life. I can attest to the value this organization has to not
only the children served but to the mentors as well. It is nice when an
employer takes an interest in supporting their employees’ initiatives.
Merchants Bank once again sponsored and employees participated in
the Bowl for Kids’ Sake this past March. I am proud of their commitment
to our community”, says Werkheiser.
“Big Brothers Big Sisters nurtures children with a mission to assist
in their success in life. These are the types of organizations that we
value and choose to support. The bank is equally a benefactor as a
result of our employee’s involvement and the difference they make to
the community. They choose to support the groups that they believe
they can help to make a difference with”, says Rocco Del Vecchio, CEO,
Merchants Bank.
