You can secure OSPF routing updates by using authentication between OSPF neighbors.<br />

OSPF authentication is enabled either at the routing process level or per-interface, allowing<br />

for flexible deployment options.<br />

Interface-level authentication overrides the process-level configuration.<br />

Configuring OSPF authentication is a multistep process. You must first define a keychain<br />

that contains attributes such as the password to be used to authenticate the connection <strong>and</strong><br />

the lifetime of the key chain for both sending <strong>and</strong> receiving, as demonstrated in Example 3-<br />

52, for the network topology illustrated in Figure 3-8.
