Finally, LISP is a new routing architecture that creates a new paradigm by splitting the
device identity, known as an Endpoint Identifier (EID), and its location, known as its
Routing Locator (RLOC), into two different numbering spaces. This capability brings
renewed scale and flexibility to the network in a single protocol, enabling the areas of
mobility, scalability, and security. It provides end-to-end path optimization in an OTV
environment, without any of the sacrifices of RHI or Null Aggregation.
Specifically for enterprises leveraging OTV, LISP provides several key benefits, including
simplified Layer 2 extension with ingress Traffic Engineering (TE) capabilities and IP
Mobility for geographically disperses data centers and Disaster Recovery (DR). LISP is
covered in great detail in Chapter 13.

extension between data centers. It also discussed the deployment options and recommended
topologies.
OTV can extend Layer 2 networks over any IP-enabled network and provide ease of
configuration and deployment, multihoming, optimal multicast replication, and HSRP
localization. OTV also can preserve Layer 3 boundaries and site scale.
