Dyazide, Maxzide

Dyazide, Maxzide (Triamterene/ Hydrochlorothiazide) trye-AM-ter-een/ HYE-dro-klor-oh-THY Classification: K-sparing/thiazide diuretic IFU: Hypertension/edema Action: Action of hydrochlorothiazide is not known. The triamterene component exerts its diuretic effect on the distal renal tubule to inhibit the reabsorption of sodium in exchange for potassium and hydrogen ions. Dosage: 50-75 mg, 25-37.5 mg, 25-50 mg Route: P.O. Adverse Reaction: nausea, diarrhea, constipation, blurred vision, dry mouth, or skin rash Interactions: Candesartan: Using triamterene together with candesartan may increase potassium levels in the blood and may develop into hyperkalemia Page 65/66

Effexor (Venlafaxine) VEN-la-fax-een Classification: SNRI (Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor) IFU: Depression Action: Blocks reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin into neurons in the CNS. Dosage: 27.5 mg, 37.5 mg, 50 mg, 75 mg, 100 mg, 150 mg Route: P.O. Adverse Reaction: headache, somnolence, dizziness, nervousness, insomnia, asthenia, nausea, constipation, dry mouth Interactions: MAO inhibitors: May cause a syndrome similar to neuroleptic malignant syndrome (myoclonus, hyperthermia, seizures, and death).
