Imitrex (Sumatriptan )

Imitrex (Sumatriptan ) SOO-ma-TRIP-tan Classification: Serotonin 5-HT1 receptor agonist IFU: Migraine/headache Action: Unknown. May selectively activate vascular serotonin receptors. Stimulation of the specific receptor subtype 5-HT, present on cranial arteries and dura mater, causes vasoconstriction of cerebral vessels but has minimal effects of systemic vessels, tissue perfusion, and blood pressure. Dosage: Tablets: 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg; Injection: 6 mg/0.5 ml (12 mg/ml) in 0.5-ml prefilled syringes and vials; Nasal solution: 5 mg/0.1 ml, 20 mg/0.1 ml Route: P.O., S.C., intranasal Adverse Reaction: dizziness, vertigo, atrial fibrillation, ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, MI Interactions: MAO Inhibitors: Increased sumatriptan effects.
