welcome
Situated in the sparkling Pacific Ocean, the archipelago of The Philippines is
an exciting Southeast Asian tropical destination comprising 7,107 islands, of
which 1,000 are inhabited. These islands are a collection of contrasts, from the
intense, brooding green of the tropical vegetation, to the blinding white coral
sands of the beaches and the aquamarine blue of the tropical seas. Add
the heat and humidity, the colourful chaos of the towns and cities, and the
brilliant smile on every face, and you have the essence of The Philippines.
From the bustling metropolis of downtown Manila, to the island and beach life
of The Visayas, to the mountain villages of Mindanao in the south and the wild
frontiers of Palawan, there’s something for everyone. Renowned for its biodiversity,
The Philippines offers incredible natural wonders for dive enthusiasts and adventure
seekers to explore; for sun worshippers, there are many stunning coastal resorts.
PHILIPPINES 2014–2015 : MANILA TOURS
DAY TOURS FROM MANILA
MANILA OLD & NEW CITY TOUR – 4 HOURS
Revisit Philippine history with a glimpse of
Manila’s past and present. This fully guided
sightseeing tour of Manila starts right in the
heart of the country’s financial center, the City
of Makati. Stops include Nielson’s Tower along
Ayala Boulevard, Forbes Park (an exclusive
residential enclave fittingly dubbed as
“Millionaire’s Row”) and the American
Cemetery and Memorial.
Continue to the old City of Manila via the
scenic Roxas Boulevard passing through
Luneta (also called Rizal Park) on your way to
the “walled city” of Intramuros. Inside the city
fortress are ancient walls, church ruins and
other relics of the Spanish Conquistadors era.
Then travel through the cobblestone streets to
San Agustin Church, the oldest stone church in
the country. End at Fort Santiago, a Spanish
fortress where Dr. Jose Rizal, the country’s
national hero, spent his last days in
incarceration and wrote his famous “My Last
Farewell.”
PANORAMIC TAGAYTAY RIDGE TOUR – 8 HOURS
Sit back, relax and enjoy a picturesque drive
up to the city of Tagaytay. Located on a ridge
2,200 feet above sea level, the city offers a
panoramic view of Taal Lake and Volcano.
Savor this awe-inspiring vista from atop the
Palace in the Sky, one of the rest houses of
former President Ferdinand Marcos.
On the way up, visit San Jose Church in Las
Pinas to see the world famous Las Pinas
Bamboo Organ. Built in the 19th century by
Spanish priest Fr. Diego Cera, the organ is
made up of over 800 bamboo pipes.
We’ll then visit a local “jeepney” assembly
plant for an inside look at how these popular
modes of transport, unique to the Philippines,
are built.
Time permitting, we’ll stop by a pineapple or
coffee plantation to sample the local produce
or by one of the local wood carving shops
dotting the roadside.
SUBIC BAY ADVENTURE - 8 HOURS
Begin this adventure with an early morning
drive to the former US naval facility in Subic,
Zambales, 75 miles northwest of Manila.
Known as the Subic Naval Base, it was
America’s largest naval facility in the Pacific
region until the Mt. Pinatubo eruption in 1991
led to its abandonment. The area has since
been converted into a modern free port and
tourism zone.
Witness the aftermath brought by Mt.
Pinatubo’s eruption (considered the strongest
volcanic eruption in the last century) while
passing through the provinces of Bulacan and
Pampanga. Then visit a JEST Camp (Jungle
Environmental Survival Training Camp) where
indigenous people called Aetas demonstrate
survival skills in a tropical rain forest. Experience
a Zoobic Safari with its ride-through tiger
enclosure (the only one of its kind in the
Philippines.)
MAJESTIC PAGSANJAN FALLS – 8 HOURS
Embark on a full day excursion to the town of
Pagsanjan, Laguna located two and a half
hours south of Manila.
Your destination is the majestic Pagsanjan
Falls. Take a scenic boat ride on a native
dugout canoe (banca.) As the boat is skillfully
maneuvered upstream by two boatmen, the
landscape diversifies with beautiful boulders,
steep gorges and lush tropical vegetation.
Return downstream by “shooting the rapids” as
expert boatmen steer past huge boulders in
churning waters at top speeds. With its
booming waters cascading down the cliff 900
feet below, this is truly an exhilarating,
spine-tingling, adrenaline-pumping ride!
VILLA ESCUDERO COCONUT PLANTATION
TOUR – 8 HOURS
This convenient, refreshing escape from the
hustle and bustle of city life is your chance to
recharge your batteries. Enjoy a variety of fun
filled activities in the rural setting of the
Escudero Coconut Plantation. About a two
hour drive south of Metro Manila, this quaint,
historic villa is set amidst a pastoral grove
inside a coconut plantation, a picturesque
showcase of old plantation life. Guests will tour
the plantation on board a carabao drawn
cart while serenaded by a native band.
This resort villa also has its own museum which
houses the family’s vast collection of historic,
religious and cultural artifacts, some dating
back to pre-Hispanic times. The highlight of
the day is sitting down to a sumptuous lunch
served beneath a man made dam. Feel free
to immerse your feet in the cool rushing waters
from a nearby lagoon. A swim in Villa
Escudero’s spring-fed pools will complete this
memorable visit.
A NIGHT OF PHILIPPINE CULTURE, DINNER AND
DANCE – 3 HOURS
Experience the hospitality that Filipinos are
known for as you partake in a sumptuous feast
of exotic local dishes and delicacies in a
traditional “barrio fiesta” atmosphere.
The highlight of the evening is a special
presentation of folk dances performed by
graceful maidens and dashing lads in
authentic native costumes. These symbolic
ceremonial dances of the northern mountain
tribes offer romantic Spanish-influenced reels,
as well as the expressive tribal dances of the
Muslim south.
Enjoy a showcase of Filipino soul presented
through dance. Towards the end of the
evening, you will have an opportunity to show
that you too can perform as guests are invited
to participate.
trees. An ideal destination for families, Boracay offers an abundance of activities such
as wind surfing, sail boating and jet skiing. Also a fairytale setting for romantics, it is not
Boracay is a small island an hour’s flight south of
crown for the trophy beach of the Philippines”. The
island is a 9km long and 1km wide haven of sun,
sand and endless fun. Surrender to the laid-back
ambience and adopt the barefoot and informal dress
CORON
Coron is a limestone island in the region of Palawan, and is
famous for its crystal-clear lakes and shipwreck diving.
At the end of World War II, the US Navy discovered a camouflaged
fleet of Japanese war ships near Busuanga Island. Taskforce 45
sank 24 of these ships, leaving 12 diveable wrecks. There are also
several excellent coral dives and drop-offs to see, and a very
unique dive site called Barracuda Lake. Here, you climb in full
gear up to a crater and descend through the freshwater layer into
salty water that reaches up to 39°C – it’s like diving in a spa!
Inside the lake there are resident barracuda, trevally, groupers,
catfish and gobies. At one end of the lake, down at around 33
meters, lies the entrance to a cave – the source of the hot water.
This can be explored with prior planning.
PUERTO DEL SOL RESORT
Puerto del sol boasts a spectacular oceanfront location,
dive centre and marina, but it also feels like a private island,
surrounded by undisturbed tropical forested hillsides and white
sand islands. The cottage suites are a contemporary twist on a
native design – all have ocean or river views.
For tranquility, sun, ocean, beaches and a pristine marine
Environment, this place is hard to beat.
RESORT FACILITIES: Restaurant, free Wi-Fi, water sports and island
activities, adventure and nature-lover tours
ROOM AMENITIES: Air-conditioning in some cottages, suite
cottages with private pavilion
From $1142.00 per person twin-share.
MALAPASCUA
Malapascua is an island that lies right in the middle of
The Philippines, at the northern tip of Cebu Island in the
Visayan Sea.
For divers, one of the biggest attractions here is the resident
thresher sharks that swim around the island in the early hours
of the morning. This is one of the only places you can reliably
get so close to these majestic, ribbon-tailed animals.
You can also see manta rays, but Malapascua’s other claim
to fame is its exceptional macro diving. Here you can find all
the odd critters like ghost pipefish, strange shrimp, crabs and
nudibranchs, and all sorts of other colourful little creatures. The
Dona Marilyn wreck was a cargo ship that sank in the ‘80s, and
has now become home to all manner of reef life.
TEPANEE BEACH RESORT
Malapascua Island, Logon, Daan Bantayan, Cebu
Tepanee stands on a small hill that rises up between two beaches,
and offers the perfect spot for admiring breathtaking sunsets. This
resort is located on the boardwalk, set on its own private white sand
beach. The resort’s philosophy is to maintain a low environmental
impact: most of the building materials are natural and locally
sourced, with the buildings themselves almost invisible from the
ocean – even when built right on the seaside.
RESORT FACILITIES: 24-hour front desk, child care, area shuttle
(fee), coffee shop
ROOM AMENITIES: Balcony, ceiling fan, private bathroom, yard
certainly the most unique city tour you
will ever take in your life!!
Lunch at Ilustrado Restaurant within the
colonial ambiance of Intramuros is the
renowned Ilustrado Restaurant. Once
an aristocratic Spanish era house, now
converted to a restaurant featuring the
best of Filipino-Spanish cuisine.
Afternoon visit to the bizarre Chinese
Cemetery and the Lechon factory in La
Loma, en route Makati City, the financial
district of Manila. Witness the contrast
of the old world Manila against the
cosmopolitan district of Makati City. See
the Philippines’ first international airport
Dinner at Café Juanita. This place is
Filipino kitsch and Filipino food at its best.
Serving a range of dishes loved by locals
and visiting tourists alike, it’s a must do for
those curious to understand what typical
local dishes consist of. The décor of the
two floor restaurant reflects everything the
owners have collected over the years.
Wherever you sit, you will be welcomed
with the famous Filipino smiling services
that makes you not want to leave! For
those wanting to experiment but not
super culinary adventurous- try their beef,
shrimp or fish sinigang- cooked in a
tamarind flavored broth with vegetables,
it’s unique but not too “out there”!
smallest primates with its gentle demeanor
and large bulbous eyes. After the cruise, the
Pamilacan Island is home to at least six
species of whales and dolphins. If you are
lucky, pilot whales may be sighted between
the months of February and August.
One interesting aspect of this tour is that the
boat crew and “spotters” for this tour are
former whale hunters. Now specially trained,
they gave up their traditional livelihood in favor
of preserving the environment!
Other activities during this tour include
swimming and snorkeling around Pamilacan
Island, whose coral reef lies just off-shore. There
